When you have a child you are legally responsible for them until they are 18, you aren't entitled to be paid back just for raising them. Our two are 41 and 31, not only are we still there for them, we will be until we pass on!

What you do is leave 1 penny for them, that way they can't contest the will on the basis of being forgotten, because thats usually the go to when it comes to entitled people who get nothing, they'll contest the will by telling the judge "oh well, obviously since i'm not mentioned they had forgotten to include me since they did intend to leave me something and told me so."
The 1 penny means there's proof they in fact didn't forget.

Story 5) this is a tough verdict to make, but gonna say the daughter is not the asshole, if the eldest daughter passed as 5 then the younger siblings would have little to no memory of their older sister but growing up with every happy event being overshadowed by grief will ruin any memories they have.
"Happy birthday, it's a shame your older sister didn't live to see it"
"You're graduating to middle school, it's do sad your sister never got the chance to go to school"
"You got into college, if your sister lived you could have gond to the same college"
"Congratulations on your engagement, it would have been nice if your sister could have been your bridesmaid"
Growing up under the shadow of someone that never never got the chance to live and always being a second thought would drive a wedge between anyone.

To be honest, although losing a child is the worst thing a parent can go through, I'm a big believer in living for the living and not the dead. For example, I was furious with my step brother last week as he sent a photo of him in my town, yet he didn't even come for a cuppa. He had traveled over 6 hours to visit his mum and nanas graves, yet he couldn't spare 15 minutes to come say hi to the family who are very much alive and only sees once a year 🙄 I did tell him next time don't bother telling me your in town unless your coming to see us as I would never go to where he lives and just send a photo saying hey I'm in town then not make a effort to visit, then he has the audacity to say he rarely sees us 🙄 I'm all for remembering loved ones I have a photo of my best friend in my home and when I met my partner I told him, look there is a photo of a random guy up, he's my best friend who died when he was 21, and im warning you, that photo willalways be up in my home , thankfully my partner knew him and was totally fine with it, and he will also take me to his grave anytime if I want to go , which isn't often, I went when the kids finally came out of hospital, they were premature and in hospital for months, then I didn't go again until this year, we were driving past and i said can i visit sam please, he said sure lets go, and we did i spoke to sam told hi and had a one way conversation about what crap id been up to then we left 🤣 I hadn't been for over 20 years, thats because my ex would make me visit every week and it drove me crazy, so i decidied id never make a habit of going and just visit when i feel like it, but I think about him every day, and sometimes talk to him. I get losing a child is hard i know better than most as ive had 14 misscarriges, but I would have never have done what this parent has done making their living children play second to the child who died that's just messed up and wrong on so many levels, to be honest i can see the living kids cutting ties due to it in future if they dont stop doing this as they are basically saying the dead sister is more important to them than their living children 🤔

As a parent myself I would never, ever dream of booting my kid at 18. (unless of course I raised a psychopath) Especially when they have barely had worldly experience, or for that matter paying me faithfully for what I put in for her/his car or any other kind of pricey item. If anything I would forgive the debt. It's like the mother just used her kid to get the child support, of which I am very sure never truly went to the kids best interests. What an evil narcissist... I say go no contact with both parents, they really don't seem to give a shit about her anyway. Poor girl😟

Story 5: This reminds me of one of Aesop's Fables, Grief and His Due. "When Jupiter was assigning the various gods their privileges, it so happened that Grief was not present with the rest: but when all had received their share, he too entered and claimed his due. Jupiter was at a loss to know what to do, for there was nothing left for him. However, at last he decided that to him should belong the tears that are shed for the dead. Thus it is the same with Grief as it is with the other gods. The more devoutly men render to him his due, the more lavish is he of that which he has to bestow. It is not well, therefore, to mourn long for the departed; else Grief, whose sole pleasure is in such mourning, will be quick to send fresh cause for tears".
Grief is hard to move past, if it's even possible to ever really love past it, but you can't let it rule your life. The more you give Grief, the more he'll try to take from you, and he's pretty damn good at getting what he wants from you

The story about the young daughter that passed away: OP herself said "On THEIR (other 2 daughters) birthday, she thinks of her"! That should in itself make her realize she is making everything about the daughter who passed away!
Also, if OP hadn't demanded every milestone include pictures & stories about the daughter who passed away, the daughter getting married would have probably wanted to do something like this on her own at her wedding to include her sister. OP has taken the gesture away from her daughter by everything every celebration being about her sister!

Story 1: No way is the OP a jerk and this is no over-reaction. Matt shouldve been disowned and disinherited over his attitude and comments. He's a bad son and bad person, plain and simple. His whole infidelity was pretty bad too, and his whole crying pity party when he was cheated on was pretty pathetic. Im willing to bet he only did that to try and gain sympathy from the OP, but he really didnt deserve it.
Story 2: Okay, first off, why are you bringing you Switch, or any kind of console to work with you? That alone is a recipe for disaster. Just because you'er a paying customer doesnt mean you are in any way entitled to someone's personal property. At least the manager didn't take this Karen's BS for a second and stood up for the OP here. I also feel bad for the little boy too.... having to have a Karen like that for a mom.
Story 3: This is why you NEVER buy anything for your work on your own dime without getting paid back for it. As for the bosses wife, talk about a huge penny pincher here. Is paying a couple cents for a bag really that big of a deal here? I think not.
Story 4: Yeah, working country clubs like this can be among the best and worst places to work for service workers. As a professional cook of 20 years, i used to hate cooking for people like Joe here (so glad i never served them). Joe should've been thrown out the moment he put his hands on the OP, and the other patrons should've done something about it too when he did, but at least they all backed up the OP when it came time to pay the bill. Least everyone put him in his place in the end.
Story 5: While i can understand the OP's grief for the loss of Brooke at such an early age, i can also understand the other siblings frustrations, particularly Marnie's. Its really fair that she wants to have one day about herself and not her deceased sibling. The OP is being rather unreasonable and insensitive towards Marnie here. On one hand, i dont think that a spare chair would be that big of a deal in the long run, but if Marnie doesn't want it, then don't press the issue and certainly don't attack her for it. I dont think the OP is a jerk here, but she definitely needs to think of other people's feelings and not just her own.
Story 6: The OP's mom, dad and aunt are complete scumbags... especially the mom. I always hate the "you owe me" attitude by parents like that. Your kids don't owe you a single thing for you raising them. As for the OP, i would disown the mom and go zero contact for the car incident and kicking them out.

"You need to get over yourself!'
I'm sorry but no she doesn't. If anyone needs to get over anything the original poster needs to get over the loss of their daughter. I can't begin to imagine how hard it is to go through the loss of a child and nobody can tell you how long to grieve and how to grieve but after a certain point you need to get over that person's death.
Unless the original poster wants her kids to resent both her and the memory of the daughter that she loved so much she needs to seek out professional help.

  • @Jackie_XIII
    @Jackie_XIII 8 месяцев назад +1

Yeah just because you don't have money doesn't mean you can't seek legal counsel. There are plenty of lawyers who work either pro bono or contingency fee meaning that the lawyer is not get paid unless you win your case. If the original poster and that story can pull up bank records proving that he paid for it then it should be a fairly simple case and her writing out expenses on the back of a check justifying underpaying him would not stand up to scrutiny in court.
That would be an easy case and he's a fool for not taking it to court. I get wanting to wash his hands of the useless mother but he's leaving an easy case, and easy payout, and a sunk 25K on the table

Story 1: You reap what you sow. Matt is selfish and deserved to be disinherited. Don’t write him out entirely, but just leave him a sad sounding fart [in a jar], or the financial equivalent of it so as to prevent him from contesting the will.
Story 2: NEVER, EVER, EVER bring anything valuable such as a Nintendo Switch to work or to school. Ironic that the boy is more mature than his mother.
Story 3: Ridiculous. Never do more than work than what you are paid. OP never should have bought milk nor done any chores in that unpaid early time.
Story 4: I’ve worked at country clubs and yacht clubs in food and beverage service. We had situations with members and their guests such as the case with Joe.
However, when it came to alcohol I and the rest of the staff would NEVER serve to any guest or member under legal drinking age, and for those old enough to drink, we would be sure to stop the drinks to them instead of over serving them.
Story 5: My condolences for the loss, but it is Marnie’s wedding, and it is her decision. Weddings are about the bride and groom, they are supposed to be happy events. Marnie is right to call out that mom. OP is TA and needs to get over herself. The son is also right to call out OP on what she is doing.
Story 6: Outrageous! That’s extortion! Paying child support is required by law, not “fulfilling parental duties”. I would at least be sure to put her in the lowest tiered nursing home.

But she has been taken the spotlight op has been forcing her memory into all the other kids achievements and celebrations.
One of the kids has a birthday Brooke has to be involved.
One of them got an achievement Brooke has to be involved.
Their own bloody graduation Brooke has to be involved.
Forcing living people to get along when they're not that close for example family members step siblings half siblings usually builds resentment.
As sad as it is to say the same thing happens if you force someone's memory on people.
Op has made a Brooke an oppressive force in their lives. I'm pretty sure Brooke would have never wanted to become a toxic overhanging shadow on her younger siblings lives but that is what the op has made her.
Marine just wants to have one day where it's about her a wedding is meant to be about the bride and the Groom.
The tears shed are meant to be about them.
      The smiles about them.
The feelings of well wishes about them.
Op has already proven that if Brooke is allowed to get involved that's not going to be the case.
Hell Marine is a better person than me because the second someone told me I was being selfish and I needed to get over myself for wanting one day about me. I would have straight up told them not to come to the wedding
