"If you've got nothing to hide then why object to a search?" is such a vile way of thinking, it's an invasion of privacy, it's an inconvenience, it's a tacit accusation, and it's a very slippery slope that will be used to justify ever more intrusive searches and monitoring.
Relax. This is a store. Everything is new and nothing is nasty from you using it. Everything that is seen in your bags can be just as easily seen in the store. Don’t cause a scene and everything will be fine. Really. No one cares what you buy as long as the things you buy are all there and nothing is stolen. It can be an unfortunate thing to occur but it’s way easier to just comply, show a receipt and items if necessary than to have to be told to wait”wait”, or “don’t go anywhere” or try to be escorted into a small office at the front or something. If you try walking off maybe they won’t follow you, but maybe they will. In my opinion it’s not worth it but some people may be looking for some type of payday. It’s true you do not have to show proof of purchase but really, if you want to cause more of a delay, because chances are you will, then go ahead and don’t. More time and more of a headache. It’s really 50/50 if you really know you stole something on that working.
*Story 1:* That's insane! It's bad enough that they try to steal merchandise from a store, but they also threaten the lives of OP and his co-workers for trying to prevent them from doing that. I hope they got arrested for that.
Story 2: Mama’s boy alert! And no you are NTA for not following their traditions. Why didn’t they ask for OP’s help, let alone explain it to her? OP isn’t psychic. 🔮
Also for the creepy brother situation... I have Aspergers and even at my worst, I would NEVER pull the shit OP's partner's brother pulled. Also... The brother *literally drew porn* of OP and her partner was like "Eh it's nothing." Dude. Your BROTHER drew pictures of YOUR partner... NAKED. How the fuck are you NOT confronting your brother about that? Especially since he also posted it to instagram, meaning that the brother literally posted porn of OP online.
OP5: This guy is a serial violator of your boundaries, feelings, and consent. He gets off on crossing lines with you. You either need to accept that, or end this abusive relationship.
I once walked out of a store near my house with a package of batteries I forgot to pay for. I noticed rather quickly and brought it back in and explained what happened the cashier was very understanding and I bought the batteries
I remember one time I accidentally shoplifted. I was in the mall shopping in a children's clothing store for girls looking for an outfit for my niece to wear for Easter. After purchasing her dress my friend and I went home. As I was getting out of the car my friend noticed that another dress has hooked itself by the hanger to the hood of my coat. It had a security tag on it, but it never went off. I called the store and explained what happened and told them I would be bringing back the dress that had made it onto my coat. They were very understanding and shared a laugh with me when I made it back to the store with the dress. They jokingly gave my coat a talking to about how stealing was wrong.
OP4: Intoxication no more excuses cheating than it excuses hitting someone with a car while driving drunk. When you get drunk or high you accept the consequences of what you might do. If you're the kind of person who gets wild and uninhibited when you get drunk, you DON'T. GET. DRUNK, or you accept the consequences. Edit: I was writing that before the OP made the same connection lol.
That's easy to say until you see guys deliberately getting girls as drunk as possible because they know that's the only way the girl will say yes. The other guy is at fault, and OP's first instinct of blaming his girlfriend is a huge red flag for their relationship.
@ovni2295 you mean the girlfriend who could have AT ANY POINT said "No" and then that's the end of getting too drunk, if you don't know what you're going to do then don't fucking do it, You are still responsible for your actions regardless. Defending her makes you just sound like a cheater. Calling it a red flag that she cheated on him. But it's his red flag. Sounds like you're a serial cheater.
Story 2. 10 bucks says that's not even a tradition and his mom would be disgusted at what he said. He probably just wanted her to fuck off and help to make himself look good
2:47 you mentioned that you worked in customer service so you should know that the reason why the stores ask to see receipts is because of all the creative ways people have found to steal things. One of the creative ways that people have come up with is to go through the register and either not scan things, and put items inside other containers, or even tag swap and make it look like they're buying an item but scanning a much cheaper product. For example, the kid who stole a PS4 from Walmart by ringing it up as a bundle of apples. They even have specific instructions at places like Walmart on when to ask for receipts in order to prevent this from happening. In some cases it is security theater and others it's a legitimate tactic to prevent shoplifting. Also, the door greeter can ask you the question but they have no authority to stop you if you don't comply. However, if anything is taken the absolutely massive security network inside the store will capture it and the next time you come in you will either be stopped and arrested depending on value or asked to leave. The stores don't usually prosecute every instance of theft but they do document it and when it passes felony amounts they get the police involved with sometimes months worth of evidence.
Story 1: if i reacted to every time I was threatened at work... Id be living in the bathroom 🤣🤣🤣 Story 5: ... OP needs to suck it up and say no .. if you don't want to be messy.. then skip it... Like how the fuck do you expect NOT to get a mess and stop using tiktok to influence you
story 1: I don't understand why the police were not called when they threatened violence. Can someone from the UK tell me if this is a country difference thing or just a this store thing?
It's common to help out when you came to visit. It's also how you bond and talk with the women in your partner's side, especially your mother in law. Culture or not, help out! You can learn a few things from them. You don't really need to be told what to do. If you were raised right, you'd do the right thing.
op should have asked her mother in law if she wants some help in the kitchen instead of her husband overreacting after op and her husband left the in law's house
Story : while I do not condone her actions at all, She was also in no shape to consent and that guy should have been aware and derailed her advances or kept his in check. Seriously she also needs to get her drinking in check. To drink to the point of blackout and zero control says something about her mindset. Why did she feel the need to get so drunk? It's dangerous in more ways than one. For the fellow, I'd give her this one, but if she gets that drunk ever again, it's time to fold the relationship.
Nah people decide to drink. Like the analogy Op said, people who drunk drive still get in trouble both legally and socially. So why is this okay? Nah. Id say ditch her. Ditch her and make it known it *is* because of the drinking. Anything else is asking for trouble
REALLY, what did u expect her BF do, knock him out? She wants wife rank when she's a GF. it's a holiday and she expects to be ranked higher then a member of the family. Bye bye bye
Story 1: Okay, first of all, screw those Karens, all 5 of them.... but i send the biggest 'screw you' to the store manager for having absolutely no spine and actually serving them rather then kicking them out, banning them and calling the cops. That reaction is exactly why Karens, Kevins and others do stuff like this... because they know nothing is going to happen to them. The second the Karens threatened bodily harm on the OP and co-workers is the second the cops should've been called here and honestly, if they tried anything, the OP should've been able to defend themselves and fight back. As for checking items and receipts... i get that it can be annoying, but its because of people like this that many stores have those kinds of policies. Story 2: OP is by no means a jerk, the husband is a HUGE jerk. First off, i dont think the MIL is even remotely offended here, it only sounds like he is. Second, if this really is a tradition in his household, why didnt the husband say something about it before they went there? Third, the OP DID offer to help out, just not at that particular moment, and the MIL seemed okay with it... so whats the deal? Overall, the OP did absolutely nothing wrong and the husband is making a scene out of literally nothing. Sounds like he was just looking for a reason to have an argument. Story 3: OP is not a jerk here, but i think maybe she shouldn't have stranded the bf there. After the whole sketchy drawing part, i know i wouldn't want to be around the brother either, and the bf should not have just brushed it off either. That is beyond weird. The brother either has some condition that wasnt said (although speculated) or he is a complete weirdo and i know i wouldnt want to be near him ever again. Story 4: This sounds like much more then just a "kiss" and getting black-out drunk is never ever a good excuse... and sounds like she remembered more then she let on. The whole "pretend we're together for a night" is a major red flag here too. Once is more then enough and i would be re-considering the relationship here. Story 5: Not the jerk at all here. I dont understand why newlyweds smash the cake in each others face on the wedding... its stupid.
And story 3 I think this person is a red flag shocked that someone’s brother came to a family gathering like thanksgiving I get he creeps you out for what he did but you could have handled that way better than blowing up and if this is the relationship your in that’s his brother the family isn’t going to boot him for you if you can’t handle it you need to split up and go ur separate ways
story 1: sometimes at one story if the guy at the door sees us checking out, he will wave us through when we go to show him our bags. I find that nice but we always offer to show that we have checked out.
2:16 When I've got already filled bags going through the checkout, or I'm going to the (security-manned) exit, I'll ask them if they need to check my bags, cos what do I really have to hide? Shopping I've got receipts for?
One day I actually visited the jail and I told the officer I would like visiting but not want to be a permanent guest to this day I did everything I could do to keep that promise
Story 2: It's not about "Helping" it's about the women in the kitchen talking and getting to know each other. This was the women in the family let her in. 🤷🏿♂️ I'm gonna guess they're different cultures. I'm blk and my wife is white AND I NEVER HAD TO EXPLAIN THAT TO HER. Just like if the men in her family said "Come and watch the game with us"
OP's husband could have just communicated what was expected of her. Assuming that OP knows his family's communication nuances and traditions yet this was the first time they had ever been together for such a holiday is setting her up for failure. A good partner explains to you how to interact smoothly with their family, additionally, him getting angry at her and arguing with her over something she had no idea about is unfair. The culture and race doesn't matter, a good partner helps their spouse navigate through all that. Good for you if you and your wife have the same cultural expectations not everyone has that.
Nah, fam. The way he went off made it seem very gender-biased. Especially as his own mother said not to worry and to go sit down. She even helped set the table which, as a guest, she shouldn't have had to - not on the first time there. IDC how long you been in the family, your first visit isn't one where you get pushed into doing shit. It's the one where you meet everyone, chat it up and chill, get the feel for the group and - if needed - lend a hand at the end to tidy up a bit when feeling more comfortable. Is she not supposed to meet the men and only hang out with the women? Fuck that shit. Some people have more in common with one gender than the other and shouldn't be forced to socialise by gender. Example - I'm the only woman in my family who games as a hobby and is a nerdy fuck so I'm gonna hang with the boys and talk anime and shit over talking fashion and whatever asinine shit my sister and aunts bother talking about. Also, pushing people to do things they're not comfortable with is shitty. Some people are shy and prefer to lurk in corners and absorb the feel of socialisng instead of being thrust in the middle of a well-oiled machine who know what they're doing, Being shoved into that usually ends in someone fucking things up. Hell, as someone who cannot cook to save my soul (god knows, I've tried learning but the ways of the chef do not lay in my future. I can make a mean fruit salad but that's about it) shoving me into a kitchen with a bunch of men or women is going to make my anxious-ridden ass hide away in the bathroom, especially if I don't know them. That husband is a piece of shit.
Lol, no. If the women in the family are "welcoming" me to the world where women cook and men do nothing, I don't want in lol. I checked the original story on Reddit, the woman is the nurse who just came to the dinner from the 18 hour shift. Her husband is unemployed and also doesn't do any chores. So useless.
I'm sorry but I don't unless it's Justified to call the brother a creep if he has problems I don't think she was in the right at all cuz she said right out that she thinks she's on the Spectrum and if he's on the Spectrum she has no right to treat him that way unless known otherwise
For the story about the guy with the drunk girlfriend - Dude, stop trying to rationalize it. Someone took advantage of your girlfriend being blackout drunk. You're looking for excuses to be mad at her, citing all these stupid things about inhibition and drunk drivers and stuff, but you should know better. You're not going to be a good partner if this is your first instinct whenever something bad happens.
But people also have agency and responsibilities for their own actions. If she loves to get blackout drunk with people she doesn't know well, she is not a relationship material.
Story 3; NTA Not only what the brother did is wrong. What he did is technically illegal. You can't legally draw someone's likeness without permission and that includes sexualizing them. It is considered nonconsensual at this point. He should go to prison.
Completely false it’s only illegal if you try to sell the photos nothing ever says you can’t draw someone he is still a creep for sexualizing it but not illegal for drawing.
story 3: Yes, OP, you're a jerk. For seeing that your partner didn't grasp the depth of your feelings and not communicating. For weirdly assuming that the brother wouldn't be at his own family's thanksgiving. For making a scene in front of everyone, including the brother who, if you think he's somehow neurodivergent, might not understand what he's doing wrong. For not even bothering to try politely moving away from him yourself. For not talking to the parents when your partner was unhelpful. For just leaving and stranding him like a bratty teenager.
OK I have to say the story with the Quan “creepy brother I have to say I basically disagree with the narrator. Because this Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving whatever you wanna call it. The boyfriends parents were hosting so she doesn’t really have the girlfriend in that situation does not have a right to say oh, I’m your brother can’t be here or I’m not gonna be there it’s their parents house. OK do pictures thing I can understand. sort of. But I had to say also is it did he ever actually say it was the girlfriend in that scenario. OK I’m not going to lie. I am 23 years old and I am a bit of a man child. So with the last story with the pie in the face the whole time I was thinking to myself is this it in the window. Does it remind me in like old movies or something when they wanna make a girls team, “not that sexual don’t say all the same things and like old movies. Sorry, that’s all I was thinking of in my head.
Cake in the face: IMHO if you’re going to run to the bathroom crying because you got whipped cream in your hair, you’re not ready to get married. The guy wanted to have some fun. Who knows, maybe he thinks about licking the cake off afterward. Maybe it’s a moment to him. Maybe he should see this as a red flag that he’s about to marry a princess. If OP can’t relax and enjoy playfulness and maybe plan a little mischief of her own, just skip life and check into a nursing home.
Last story, total overreaction. It doesn't damage the hair or skin or clothes, unless there is dye then it may stain a little. Not all weddings end with cake smashing the ones that do are not one sided. I've seen grooms get cake smashed in their face also and sometimes they do it at the same time.

"If you've got nothing to hide then why object to a search?" is such a vile way of thinking, it's an invasion of privacy, it's an inconvenience, it's a tacit accusation, and it's a very slippery slope that will be used to justify ever more intrusive searches and monitoring.

It's a fucking grocery bag not the inside of your underwear 🙄 stop with the victim mentality.

You could also say "Welcome to the 21st century."
Also for the creepy brother situation... I have Aspergers and even at my worst, I would NEVER pull the shit OP's partner's brother pulled. Also... I once walked out of a store near my house with a package of batteries I forgot to pay for. I noticed rather quickly and brought it back in and explained what happened the cashier was very understanding and I bought the batteries
story 4 the gf knew what she was doing like you know how bad it is when your really drunk so is easy to tell she wanted to cheat
Isn't there a saying, Drunk person's talk is a Sober Person's thought?
Second Story.
My tradition is, if you wont do it yourself, you arent allowed to demand it from me to do.
OP2: Dude flashed you a big red flag that you have a major incompatibility. He's not going to change and its unreasonable to expect him to.

Defending her makes you just sound like a cheater. Calling it a red flag that she cheated on him. But it's his red flag. Sounds like you're a serial cheater.
Thats why most stores require customers to leave any bags at the customer service desk.
Story 2. 10 bucks says that's not even a tradition and his mom would be disgusted at what he said.

For Story #1: Christmas Shopping is easy for me because all I buy are gift cards for my immediate family members.
story 1: I don't understand why the police were not called when they threatened violence. Can someone from the UK tell me if this is a country difference thing or just a this store thing?
Sounds like a manager thing, since the manager caved to them.
They could and probably should have called the police but was at the manager's discretion.
There’s public order offences people in uk can be charged with - which threatening behaviour or language covers
It's common to help out when you came to visit. It's also how you bond and talk with the women in your partner's side, especially your mother in law. Culture or not, help out! I'm a man but a much older one the Thanksgiving story you need to ditch him because that's going to be your life.
story 4 she cheated and planned on cheating from jump and got drunk af to get through cheating but she planned that none the less

OP3: NTA. The guy is a creep and yiur bf doesn't care. You didn't strand him or anything and he chose to stick with the creep.
Story 5: if the wedding cake wasn't part of the context, the story would have sounded a little sticky 😉
Last story....don't get married he will never respect your boundaries if he can't even get this straight....the brothers thing is just an excuse
Story 3: That "creepy" bro of the bf could be OPs future brother in law so why keep dating the BF if OP feels uncomfortable
REALLY, what did u expect her BF do, knock him out? She wants wife rank when she's a GF. it's a holiday and she expects to be ranked higher then a member of the family. Bye bye bye

DON'T GET IT IN MY HAIR 🤣🤣🤣
This could have been the end of him. So glad he had camera's

So useless.
To the OP of the first story. It's called a back bone / spine. Get one
10:03 "Friendsgiving"? What is wrong with that Redditor? It's Thanksgiving whether you have a problem with it or not.
nah jit mad about a name ughnjrfg
i story #4 i would say that it was fine but to not drink that much again(at least she was honest)
I'm sorry but I don't unless it's Justified to call the brother a creep if he has problems I don't think she was in the right at all cuz she said right out that she thinks she's on the Spectrum and if he's on the Spectrum she has no right to treat him that way unless known otherwise
Uh, he drew her nude. People on the spectrum can be creeps too
As you read these stories you really sound like that burger king foot lettuce guy.. its mildly annoying after hearing it for the 50th time
story 1. im just confused
I get black out drunk every weekend and not once have a had any thoughts of hanging w other women let alone doing this 14:51
dump that cheating gf. she chose to drink a lot. its her choice to get wasted and try to get laid
So I swet alot wich cotes me to drop things a lot, so I put things in my backpack to carry them before I go pay
Bro’s still making videos from the backrooms. Respect
Oof
100th like :D
story 3: Yes, OP, you're a jerk.
Oh I'm sorry, how would you like to be drawn nude w/o your consent???
Would u give a drunk racist a pass? Blame the minority for taking advantage of them by taking a video? NO
Story 1 classic blacktivites

Good job your first :)
Remember, playfulness is subjective.
I don't think upsetting your partner is "playfulness", if you think like this don't date anyone.
It's cuz I'm British isn't it LOL
How is the narrator going to say females cooking Thanksgiving dinner is so 1950's? Like what? That's how it's kind of been for ages.
I think its the expectation more then anything.
Last story, total overreaction. It doesn't damage the hair or skin or clothes, unless there is dye then it may stain a little. Not all weddings end with cake smashing the ones that do are not one sided. I've seen grooms get cake smashed in their face also and sometimes they do it at the same time.
