- Today we look at Season 2 Episode 4 of the Chosen. We look at the first section of the episode, a ten minute scene with no dialogue, just music and sound design. We meet Jesse, and his brother(?) Simon. Super interesting story telling by the Chosen team as always. Let us know what you think below!

BEST EPISODE EVER!!!!! l've watched it _eleven times_ now ....and its just SUPERB! _GLORY_ to Jesus ALONE for putting this project on Dallas's heart!
My favorite part about it was the music in the beginning. So catchy!!
My husband and I are both blind and during this scene, we had no idea what was going on. Thank you so much for describing each section of this scene. It really helps to put the episode in perspective.
Woah! I never thought of this! We will keep this in mind as we’re making further episodes!
We would really appreciate that. Sometimes I feel like we miss a lot because the dialogue doesn’t always clue you in as to what is going on in certain scenes. It makes me feel like we are only scratching the surface as to what is going on, but your description really helps.
@@marycarlisle6021 thanks for sharing this. The music is very informative. Listen for slightly off key or off beat. You'll find Matthew. He has very pronounced awkward moments in his walking and in his hands which Paras the actor uses to express confusion, surprise, curiosity. If I can describe his costoming...the designer really went all out. You heard mother Mary remark such fine fabric in the 15 minute shot. The top coat is a white and sheen of a pearl, the texture glows the softest reflection of light and flows with the actor as he moves. It's embroidered with a contrast in texture but in simple elegant and masculine thick stitches that create stripes running the length of the coat. Magnificent. And it's so stylish I want it in my closet! It's a great great contrast to Simon and Jesus...even Mary's is more simple. You may recall Simon scorning, "are you really gonna wear that? On a journey?" He was pinching this magnificent garment as Matthew shrinks back, expressing with his hands...like near his face as if to say ewe gross Simon you are in my personal space! He shrinks away from those to close. Oh and Matthew always has a finely woven handkerchief in his hand so he doesn't directly touch anything. He uses this to pick up the olive that quintus offers him because, "you deserve it..." I'll write about Mary of magdela next time...
@Mary Carlisle I also had a hard time following the beginning of this episode, even being sighted. I can’t imagine how difficult it was for you to follow along. I figured it was the backstory of one of the disciples and tried to remember who we hadn’t met yet. I thought maybe it was Judas!
I’m glad we both stuck with it. The scene with Jesus and Jesse was so worth it!
@@JM-vj2sx I appreciate that. I’m glad I’m not the only one that was lost. LOL. Any description is definitely appreciated. If the dialogue is constant and fluid, I can usually figure out what’s going on, but it’s in those silent scenes where something crucial or key happens. For example, I had no idea that Matthew used to handkerchief to pick up things, or does not like physical interaction with people. That gives me more of an insight into his character. The thing I wish I could see the most is the interaction between Jesus and those he is healing
This series just brings the bible to life like never before. It brought tears to my eyes in almost episode that I watched
Yeah we agree for sure! Makes us want to look into everything and see what it was like back then
Another genius story line by The Chosen! Pairing up the lame man and Simon the Zealot; and Jesus using the healing of the lame man to get to Simon - 2 birds with one stone -> actually many more than 2 birds!..! Wow!😀😀🙏
The way they shot this scene is amazing! I do not know all the technical terms but the way they just shot it and put it only to music is AMAZING!
How am I just discovering this channel? Your commentary adds so much to this episode. You have gained a subscriber. Please consider doing all of season 1.
Thank you so much! Yep we’ll be getting to season 1 absolutely. Just want to talk about season 2 as the episodes are coming out first. That way we can continue to grow our channel! Then if there’s a break in episodes or when season 2 is done, then we’ll jump back into all of season 1 for deep dives into all of those episodes.
I love your commentaries and how thoughtful and knowledgeable you breakdown the scenes. Thank you!!
You rock Abby! Thanks so much for being a part of the family
Wow! Thanks for the background. I did not catch all of this. Your insights make this episode even more powerful. Can’t wait for your next one!❤️
😇🙌
Loved your comments. It did help me understand very well the intro of that episode. God bless you more.
Thanks so much Irene! Glad you got some value!

So well articulated! Glad I came across this!
Welcome to the fam!
Got to watch both seasons in jail on our tablets, I watched this episode 10 times and got tears in my eyes at the end every time! The start of the show with the two brothers and watching their lives go in different directions just sets up the rest of the show!! The end is all time greatest ending when he sees Jesse and it literally saves the brother from his own probable death! Even the dancing part that Jesse does when he sees Simon! EPIC! My brother is my best friend and I can only imagine the feeling Simon got when he saw Jesse walking after he just told him if u walk I will no the Messiah has arrived!! Best show I've prolly ever seen!!! Must watch people!
I've recently found your channel and loving being able to go back and watch all your content on The Chosen!!❤
Great response to 2/4, my favorite so far...can’t wait ‘til the next one...
Yeah! We’ll be doing a livestream chat right after episode of your up Sunday night Julie!
Your analysis is wonderful and insightful. Thank you.
Thank so much Barbara! Glad to have you with us on the journey!
Jesse is played by actor Dennis Apergis. After their Mother dies in childbirth, Jesse “mothers” or takes care of infant and baby Simon. They grow up close together. When Simon leaves, abandoning his crippled brother, my heart broke for Jesse.
But why their father and step mother are seen absent?
@@robindscarlet9805 it happens more than we think 🤔.
Sobbed all the way Jesse scene broke my heart
Yeah that’s a hard one, can’t imagine what that would be like.
Thanks for explaining .
You KNOW I can't wait to watch your interview with the camer guy! And yes, great gooly mooly! That shot of the crystal still pool I was jumping outta my chair shouting: it IS Bethesda! So good! My my my! I have lived with cancer for 9 years, and even tho my scans have been great for six months, I still live with it in my head. I used to struggle with Jesus saying, do you want to be healed? I thought it was mean. I thought it was insensitive. I thought it was calling me out in shame....but that isn't our Lord and savior is it. I've pondered this for quite some time and conclude that he struck out to find the one who'd been there the longest. And to ask him, what are you still doing, here...in THIS place of empty promises. 🤔 have you asked me to heal you...not your legs/cancer.....but YOU. do YOU want to be healed. Healed of the shame, the loneliness, the disappointment...the faulures...do you WANT to be healed. We praise you Father God for the example in your words that are brought so beautifully to us in this film. Bless those gathered here and continue to bless all who contribute to The Chosen. Praises in the name of Jesus the Christ.
Lol! So good. Arturo remembered you I think he said something about you in the interview.
@@TheSnipeLife oh how fun! I did go back and sure enough there is that yellow tent with the closed front. I just can't say enough about the angles and the lighting. Can't wait for the interview.!
May you be healed in the name of Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!🙏🏼
@@robindscarlet9805 thank youuuuu! 😊

Your profile is beautiful and we can see your emotions as you watch, beautiful
Was waiting for this😄
Another excellent and thoughtful breakdown! 🔥🔥🔥
I’m hyped to do an episode on the zealots they give me hard “assassin’s creed” vibes
First time here, first time I've seen you, but you are blessing young man. (I'm sure I'll learn your name later)

LOVED this episode of season 2 ❤ Keep up the great work #TheChosen #GiftedToGive ✨🇵🇭 #PoolOfBethesda 🙏😇
Yes! Super great episode more info to come! So much to break down from this one!
Thanks for the video!! Very interesting comments.
Thanks for watching! So happy to do it.
Excellent review
Thanks Yvonne!
Two brothers with different purposes but reunited by Jesus.
I am developing a theory regarding the creepy guy that was going to "outsmart the zealots " by killing Simon Jesse's brother....but I am saving it now for the live chat!
Lol! Nice 👍 see you tonight Denise!
This is my favorite episode.
Thank you for explaining this. Definitely subscribe!
Thanks so much!
Love you’re videos. Your awesome.
Thanks so much! We'll be doing a live stream tomorrow to talk about the pool of Bethesda! Feel free to jump in and chat with us!
The music was gorgeous.
Totally agree Vicky!
The music also was beautiful.
Please do make an episode about the Zealots.
Nice Job
Thanks so much Holly! Thanks for checking out the channel 👍
👍👍.. Good job
Could you do a video of John the Baptist? If not, its ok. Still love your videos. ❤️✝️🙏🏽
Absolutely! We know John is going to be a pretty big part in the next few episodes, so when he comes we’ll talk all about him!
Yay!
Today, we know to not move someone who has fallen like Jesse did. His Father may have further injured Jesse by running and jostling him like that. Nowadays we would call an ambulance and they would put a neck brace on him and lift him carefully without moving him. There is a book x
Wondered how Jesse got the pool in the first place. Think it would have smart to be right at the top of the stairs and roll in.
Ouch 😂
There is a book by G.K Johnson “The Zealots “
I like the way The Chosen wove the lame man at the Pool of Bethesda with Simon the Zealot. Could they have been brothers, neighbors, or perhaps listened to Torah instruction under the same rabbi? My only issue with the episode was with the mother giving g birth while flat on her back instead of in a squatting position.
I don't know but I have seen other movies and shows where women lie on the bed flat like that.
@@robindscarlet9805 so have I. I assumed that supine or flat on the back was the normt until one looks at birthing traditions in Asia, Africa, and the Asia Minor.
Nowadays, we do have homeless people living on the streets.
🙏📖❤
🙌👍😇😬
I love the chosen. I just take some issue with some parts of season 2 . I don’t feel it depicts God properly but the rest of the show I really liked
What happened to the father of the boys?
How does Jesse eat etc?
Do you think someone was helping him????
He had to eat etc.
38 years day in day out is very unusual!
I wish we had a little more info! Thank you for your videos! 😊👍
The father dies (Simon talks about his funeral during one of the scenes) other than that I have no answers 😂. I wish we had more info too.
Thanks for watching Joolz!

Always thought that the scripture speaks of Jesus returned to the healed man...John 5:14... and then :15...
The 'real' Simon the Zealot, who did become an apostle, is not related in any way to the paralytic at Bethesda. This is a fiction created to make a 'backstory' for the sake of storytelling on the show. It doesn't necessarily 'change' the Biblical narrative, but can have some readers think there is a familial relationship between those individuals in the actual Bible. Jesus CHOSE his disciples, and didn't have to HEAL someone (Jesse, in the show) to earn Simon.
Yes but it's nice to have some backstory. It could have happened. He did chose them but they also had to be willing to follow him. By saying this, its like Jesus also "earned" Simon Peter with the fish miracle but of cos that wasn't the case. God bless x
And God too* 18:00
Absolutely Robin! 👍
@@TheSnipeLife Good review😀👍🏻
Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love.
Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans
. The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom.
If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us into His image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. We cannot purify ourselves, but Christ lived that perfect sinless, pure life and then allotted it to our "account".
That's where our righteousness comes from. Not from any good, works that you or I could do.
It is not based on the amount of good works we do. God starts the changes, He carries it on, and He completes it in those who let Him.
It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him, again, through His power and instruction).
He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if YOU had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place.
He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, forgiveness, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it.
He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way.
NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER
If you have any questions let me know
Barabas was a zealot, wasn't he? 🤔
I don’t believe so.... but I could be wrong 🤷♂️
I was thinking the same. How will they show it in the episode....🤔 Jesus Burgess/Barabaas
The other disciple, named Simon, was a Zealot
@@yvonnebartlett7086 Simon the Zealot is the one this episode is focused on.
What?
I don't like these hosted videos with the host interpreting and reacting. I just want to see THE PROGRAM!
Племянника из Холмска убили на Украине, парнишке было всего 19. Гибнут наши дети, низачто
Too many liberties taken. I don't see how the roundtable could go along with so much speculation. I think they are going off the deep end. We will see if episode 5 comes back to something plausible
Same reason they've gone along with the rest of the show--95% of the show isn't from Scripture. Not sure why this episode, which actually has more scripture in it than most of our episodes, bothered you more. :)
@@TheChosenSeries The whole plot, timing and some actions were not plausible. No reference to them being brothers and that was your central premise. Fist pump by the brothers. We know little of Simon the zealot but an interaction with Jesus in some way would have made it more plausible for me. Jesus' comment at the end an strutting away plays good on screen, but seems a little prideful. I think there is a danger in trying to be too cute.
@TheChosen we are dying reading this 😂. You guys should apply for RUclips verification so we don’t have to check it’s you every-time we see you comment.
@@TheSnipeLife You want to attack but not discuss the specific comments. If you ae @TheChosen then your channel is another bias way of presenting your agenda and attacking anyone who has concerns. I would have said before this episode that The Chosen was great. I see now that there is cause for concern over the "Creative" content. Too bad! I thought you had something real good.
@Tor Torkelsen I'm sorry that you feel as we were attacking. That is not the case we were simply surprised that The Chosen watches our videos. As for your concerns, the bible doesn't say much of "Simon the Zealot". This show is not the bible and shouldn't be taken as fact. It's supposed to be something that directs you back to scripture.Which, for me, they do. I always watch with my bible to make sure, in my mind, that I know what's scripture and what's not. This is not a replacement for scripture. They are simply using their creativity (that God gave them) to create a beautiful work of art. I much rather them be making shows like this that cause us to think and dig into scripture than be working in Hollywood or a studio creating shows with Satan's agenda.
