that failed engine lost a cylinder or two... maybe he can limp back to port, I see steam exiting the cooling system, that 1 1/2" line port stern .. steam rolling out of it, should be water... which to me means catastrophic failure, water pump stopped working, engine overheats, mains cook, rod goes thru block, exhaust exiting out water jackets .. not good, that engine is toast, you have to monitor these things ...

also these skippers stack up too close to the entrance, they should be a half mile back, then giving her all the beans she has to build up a good head of steam to enter the narrow opening, just a serious lack of organization, common sense and skill.. the bad skippers make a mess for all the good skippers . . . too bad, some very nice barges passing thru here...

They could do so much more to fight the problem. Open more gates to reduce the flow through them and give more access. One time I saw two boats working together with a push pull method. Once the second was thru they untied the line. Easy steps to make this passage more bearable.

@@richardreid6377 Take a look on google maps: the white house (on the east bank in background) is in the north of the dam. The mobile antenna is at east bank in the south. The street over the dam is on north side and the steel construction is on south side of the dam. Normaly water comes from the north (Cho Chien river). But today water flows from south to north. That is the different direction.
