Man...that V8 sounds soooooo awesome. I'm grinning my ass off just watching Matt enjoy the drive! Wish the Z4 could be purchased with the V8 and sort of performance variance.
Ryu Fūrinkazan dont watch bro we all butt hurt they have pay2view content now i feel ya........but fuck they have good content so either sit watch the free content or stfu and gtfo?
Ryu Fūrinkazan They also have way more advertisement revenue on their magazines. Oh wait, Drive doesn't have millions of dollars coming in from magazine sales.
why I'm so in love with this logo BMW. Z4, M3 and Hp4 superbike! If I have enough money, I would love to wake up every morning and have coffee in my garage. All 3 warming up the engine at the same time.
No mention of how they allow a V8 in the Z4...Can you just choose any chassis and engine combo as long as it from the same manufacturer and under the displacement limit for the class they are running in??
Just wondering if replace Z4 inline6 into M5 V8 twin turbo engine + GT3 Body kit, how much will it cost?? (as I know, the GT3 Body kit cost around 25000 USD)
Compared to other BMW's of that era the Z4 isn't heavy. Z4 35i (e89) = 1580 kg / M3 Coupe (e92) = 1655kg / M3 Cabrio (e92) = 1885 kg!!! The Porsche Boxter of that era was lighter but it had only 330PS and no turbo. The Z4 (e89) on the other hand has the N54 motor which is often mildly tuned like mine with 400PS/625Nm but it can reach 600PS to 800PS. And with numbers like that the Z4 is IMHO not a heavy car.
I miss you Matt, its too bad you are hidden behind the iron curtain of the paid subscription gimmick that is Drive+. You are one of the coolest auto journalists I have seen...
the USCC GT classes are quite strange the GTD class which races mostly GT3 cars is more ristrictive than official GT3 regulations, but GTLM which races GTE cars is actually less regulated which means you go faser on those cars in for example the WEC.
To be honest, the Z4 GTD only won the championship because it got favoured in terms of BoP. As Mr. Turner mentioned in the video, the car is pretty quick in the tight bits, but really underpowered on straight line (same with the GTE version of the Z4) in comparison to a Viper GTD or a R8 LMS GTD machine. But IMSA opened the air restrictor in that car by so much, that the car was formidable all season, even on tracks like CoTA, which has like two pretty long straights. So IMSA contributed a lot to their title (not saying that Tuner Motorsport just had to finish and do nothing else, obviously there are well deserved champions). Also the Z4 Matt Farah was driving was a GT3 one, which has more downforce than the GTD spec (GTD car has a smaller rearwing). So it wasn't the championship winning car he was driving there.
***** sure it it had some great racing. But through some of the BoP decision it also made for unfair racing, which tuned teams like Turner Motorsport and NGT to the Pirelli World Challenge, where the BoP and the racing in general, seems to be clearer and more consistent.
josj15 Since racecars are becoming more the same and have more shared parts nowadays, it's that much more focused on driver skill. Not saying you're being nostalgic though, I also think racing had more charm and excitement in the past.
josj15 To be honest, this really depends on which series you're pointing this interpretation of today's racing out. If you look at series like the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge or the BTCC, these series do have close resemblance to their roadcar counterparts and make for some very excting racing too. But as Jordan Taylor once pointed out, we need to get rid of this BoP thingy, not just in CTSCC, but also in TUSC, WEC GTE etc. It's cool to see so many manufacturers involved, but actually not having a set of technical regs, seems like every car maker can go and make a GT car and IMSA (for example) will sort the rest out. IMSA would actually have a huge influence in the overall perfomance of the car. Shouldn't that be the job of the car makers? Where has the real competitiveness gone? (Btw this text is getting too long, hope you don't make a quick nap while you're reading this)
Actually, it is the exact same car. Quite literally, all they did was switch out the IMSA Restrictors and Rear wing and put back on the GT3 parts. They were able to run the car in GT3 spec at the World Challenge Long Beach race, then bolt on the IMSA parts and compete at the Tudor race in Laguna Seca.
***** exactly, I'm quite surprised that, other than Chrysler recentley, other car makers didn't opt to withdraw from GTE or GT3. For example, Corvette won four races in the 1st half of the TUSC season, then IMSA went like: "OK you have won enough races, let's make the BoP for you guys real shitty, so the other ones can win too". I just don't think it's fair, especially because Corvette can't do anything about it, becasue the development of upgrades or other stuff is restricted in GTE.
Looks like a really fun car - but is it worth the buck? I wouldn't think of this as a competitor to the vette, I mean I guess if you look at everything, it is, but I'd rather take the vette or boxster 10 times out of 10. I feel like if I was in the market to buy one of those cars at that price point, I don't think I'd turn to the Z4, I thought it was a good bit cheaper.
I'm not sure why everyone is hating on Drive+? If you enjoy watching extras and exclusive footage, then pay for it. If you don't care about that, then don't pay for it!? Why do you have to slaughter them for mentioning that there is more footage on drive+!?
Jeffrey S not sure if you pay it, but when i did, the content was worse than the original drive channel and there was little of it, folowed by no more chris harris. good bye. no oversteer no views.
I really wish they didn't state in the summary that they would answer a question and then place the answer behind the paywall. Just mention the question in the video and just say you are driving them both in the summary.
Great video, but you can't compare this to the m3 he drove a couple years back. That car is a CTSCC GS class car that still races in that class. This is a GT3 class car that is much faster and uses driver aids
3:42 irreplaceable? :-D They use more spares in one race than we will in our whole life! In one season they build the car like six ore more times from the ground using there spares!
He's talking about the symbolic value of the car, even if 90% of it is not the same, the one car from the beginning. Everything in your body is replaced every 5 years or so. Basically your body from today is totally different than the one from 10 years ago. Are you a different person :)?
This car competes with the Corvette? That is not correct, this car competes with the Boxster and and Nissan Z convertible. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that this compares with the Corvette.
I know this is the short version and I know Matt is not a pro driver (I'm a huge fan of Matt) but with cars like this, you really miss the professional feedback from a certain CH. Really don't enjoy DRIVE as much anymore.
as you wish ;) www.dailymotion.com/video/x2c45jq_drive-plus-driving-turner-motorsports-z4-gtd-matt-farah_auto well kept secret all their shit is on DM without a fee lol
I have nothing against BOP per se although I had problems with IMSA's BOP policy throughout the season (nascar basically made sure that american brands win in P and GTLM). But I applaud them for not allowing all these aids. I know why they do it. Bigger fields, bigger fees and the rich gentleman drivers / team owners don't crash their toys so often. but really? ABS,TC and DSC?
The new C7 is easier to drive than the previous C6 race car. The drivers say that for that reason they can go faster. Giving them the confidence to brake later, go into and out of turns faster ect.. Easy race car = fast race car
Drive+ will never be watched by 90 percent of these viewers its fucking stupid matt come on we all watch these videos and support you guys and now your making us pay im done with drive!
Man...that V8 sounds soooooo awesome. I'm grinning my ass off just watching Matt enjoy the drive! Wish the Z4 could be purchased with the V8 and sort of performance variance.
I want to thank @Drive for having a great show for so many years. As everything, things come to an end. You guys take care.
Put your Drive+ where the sun don't shine.
my thoughts exactly
fuck you freeloader. you make me sick.
Ryu Fūrinkazan and he's in $350,000+ race car while you sit and have keyboard rage
Ryu Fūrinkazan dont watch bro
we all butt hurt they have pay2view content now i feel ya........but fuck they have good content so either sit watch the free content or stfu and gtfo?
Ryu Fūrinkazan They also have way more advertisement revenue on their magazines. Oh wait, Drive doesn't have millions of dollars coming in from magazine sales.
It must be such an honor to be able to drive all of these amazing cars. love this channel, subscribing.
actually i'm unsubscribing.. because of Drive+.
***** lmao
I think people should just stop being so butthurt and disliking these videos because even though they are short they are still good
GT3 is my favorite class.
why I'm so in love with this logo BMW. Z4, M3 and Hp4 superbike! If I have enough money, I would love to wake up every morning and have coffee in my garage. All 3 warming up the engine at the same time.
Oh no, where will I get the full video without The Pirate Bay?
Dailymotion
*****
Thanks
I think this is a re-up of a video they did last year.
***** Thank you! :)
***** Seeya.
The GT3 spec is such a beast, dat sound!! 😁
No mention of how they allow a V8 in the Z4...Can you just choose any chassis and engine combo as long as it from the same manufacturer and under the displacement limit for the class they are running in??
Matt, how does this compare to driving the Venom GT???
What's the music at 2:14?
Camera lens couldn't handle g forces?
Everything was perfect until minute 5:00
The Z4 looks awesome.
Won't play says an issue?
Kind of wish they made a street version of the Z4 GTD race car.
at 2:59 you can see that it turns so hard the camera lens is moving hahah
Just wondering if replace Z4 inline6 into M5 V8 twin turbo engine + GT3 Body kit, how much will it cost?? (as I know, the GT3 Body kit cost around 25000 USD)
wouldn't Z4 also compete with SLK.
Matt, what’s more exciting? This or the Lancia Stratos rally car you drove in the other video sir?
Seriously, BMW isn't for no reason one of the best automobile makers in the world. And the sound that Z4 GTD made on the track caused me goosebumps.
Great looking cars!
i have seen the z4 GTD in person at a race. Its insanely cooler in person and the sound it makes in indescribable the video doesn't do it justice
i love bmw z4 and m1,m3, m6, very much my favourite
N54. Not N55
Why do many gt3 race cars have this whining sound? Are they all supercharged?
straight cut gears if I'm not mistaken.
yeah its the straight cut gears in the transmission, they are stronger than helical cut gears and produce no sideways force along gearbox shafts
Damn that must have been fun to drive Matt!
Compared to other BMW's of that era the Z4 isn't heavy. Z4 35i (e89) = 1580 kg / M3 Coupe (e92) = 1655kg / M3 Cabrio (e92) = 1885 kg!!! Review the F80/82
2014 GTD class not 2013, Matt @ 1:55
Is that Monticello?
I miss you Matt, its too bad you are hidden behind the iron curtain of the paid subscription gimmick that is Drive+. You are one of the coolest auto journalists I have seen...
Nice video!
Absolute beast this machine.
drive+ is not able in my country (venezuela), + i can´t pay for it :(
@DanielDiz straight cut gears in the transmission are noisy

Love hearing it rip by on the straights
Why do you say New York I'm pretty sure you're at New Jersey Motorsports Park?
Harris91 Nope they are at Monticello Motor Club.
Why do you call it a C4 when its a Z4, Z as in Zorro
Get your hearing checked. He was saying Z. In america Z is Zee sound, not Zed sound like in queens english
Favorite racecar ever
Bro, I would have lost it and driven that thing home. So lucky!

I’m surprised that nobody ever tried to put the v8 of the gt3 into a normal z4 e89.
I love these. I have a couple of the Z4 GT3 in Need For Speed World.

An American commenting that a Bmw is ok around corners pmsl!!!
Eat your heart Chris Harris...Matt is the Man.

That does look so fun...jelly but I have a Z4 is i get a glimpse of the fun haha + #loveandHUNDREDS
I haven't felt the need to "head over to /DRIVE+" yet so I'm good thanks. Awesome machine though.
Wow...Didn't expect it to weigh so much...
@ 3:48... and that's why you tape the lens.
Matt! go to Dream Racing in las Vegas. You can drive more Race cars there! Would love to see your reviews of those!
I was thinking about those F430s as I watched this!
Oh God I hope that's not what *every* video is going to turn into now; a plug for Drive+. I literally just got here.
I really wish they didn't state in the summary that they would answer a question and then place the answer behind the paywall. Just mention the question in the video and just say you are driving them both in the summary.
I have this car.. too bad I dont have the v8 or v10 swap :(
DAMN YOU DRIVE+!
aaay will turner that's the coolest dude ever
Great video, but you can't compare this to the m3 he drove a couple years back. That car is a CTSCC GS class car that still races in that class. This is a GT3 class car that is much faster and uses driver aids
Represent! Bavarian motor works!
3:42 irreplaceable? :-D They use more spares in one race than we will in our whole life! In one season they build the car like six ore more times from the ground using there spares!

Mzn T If you're not a different person from the you 5 years ago, something's gone wrong :/
they charge for after drive, that sucks, guess i won't be watching the whole video
you still fit in there
Palmer has 96 db max sound limit listed on their website. Beware before you tow your car out here!!
This car competes with the Corvette? That is not correct, this car competes with the Boxster and and Nissan Z convertible. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that this compares with the Corvette.
They are priced the same...
***** So you are saying that any two cars, even if they are in a different class, that are priced closely, compete with each other?
BuLoOoSki
2 door GT cars. Yeah they in the same class.
ZED FOUR!!! Oh and fuck drive plus
Drive was so nice before drive+... now it's just trailers... so sad.
Hell yes.
I know this is the short version and I know Matt is not a pro driver (I'm a huge fan of Matt) but with cars like this, you really miss the professional feedback from a certain CH. Really don't enjoy DRIVE as much anymore.
No Hans...
sucks this video was made for drive+, i would have loved to see the rest. FIA gt cars are awesome

Top the new z4
301+ views in and no bitching about drive+ yet. Weird....
What kind of an idiot down votes a fun video such as this? What isn't there not to like about it?
No race car should be easy to drive.
TakeNoPrisoners Why?
The new C7 is easier to drive than the previous C6 race car.
The drivers say that for that reason they can go faster.
Giving them the confidence to brake later, go into and out of turns faster ect..
Easy race car = fast race car
The purpose of race cars is to win. How easy they are to drive doesn't count for much, and it's definitely not what makes them race cars.
So it should skid around the track and try to kill the driver at every turn?
I doubt a car like that would have much success.
2024 anyone?
no more koenigsegg video uploads. ...
MEEEEHHHHH!
No context input from the presenter but dramaticising the whole thing. Anyone can do it
Fk drive plus
fuckin drive plus..........
aaaannnnnddd paywall.
Drive+ will never be watched by 90 percent of these viewers its fucking stupid matt come on we all watch these videos and support you guys and now your making us pay im done with drive!
Matt trying to do the Chris stuff now? What a sad, feeble and generic attempt. The downhill slope is a slippey one by the looks of it..
RIP /Drive
I'd take the c7 any day, never got on with the Z roadsters from BMW.
cry for dry sponge or live for fresh fruit
