It is so weird to me that they recycled the Doom pistol for this. They also recycled Wolf3D assets for the Doom RPG mobile games. This version of the game is even weirder than the SNES version. EDIT: BJ's thumbs up sprite in the intermission scene is also a crazy addition. Wow. EDIT 2: I just now noticed that BJ's avatar has additional sprites for when he gets hurt. Has anyone recycled any of this? Also, were the graphics upscaled to 128x128 as opposed to 64x64? Ex Wolf3D modder here.
In the 90s I only knew the Atari version from magazines. I always found the graphics totally fascinating and am looking forward to seeing the game in action (after about 25 years). Many thanks for the video. LG, Tom

Never played this version but it appears to be the definitive in some ways. Sprites are so crisp. Guns look amazing for the times, levels are detailed, audio is great. Why did I never have an opportunity to play this on my cutting-edge Pentium i586 in 1993?!
Id software was in direct contact with Atari. Most software houses weren't. And hell, if you were to get anything out of it.. You needed all the inside info you could get!
Didn’t know there was a Jaguar version of this game until years back. Seeing it now, it looks great so far. It’s also pretty fun to play on the Jag, alongside Doom. An improvement over the SNES port. I also managed to get an emulator for this version of the game to work with too. Many thanks for this video.
There's a doom slayer edition coming for the Jaguar which will be the Ultimate Doom finally completed with music and they are working too on Doom 2 and Mortal Kombat 1 for the system, looking to the ports of MK it seems is going to be the most similar to the arcade and will have some new cool effects as the blood from Kasumi Ninja. They also started working on Heretic but is very early wip
@@codehunter77I’ve seen videos of that MK1 homebrew for the Jaguar being in development and I heard that it’s going to be a good one. I know that Doom II on the same system was a hack of the first game, except with new levels there.
This was my first FPS. Played the heck out of it on my buddy's Jaguar. I rented the SNES version when I saw it at Blockbuster and couldn't get into it. It sucked hard compared to what I was used to with the Jaguar version.
The best version Mabey....only the enemies by the front...An not all of the levels...Greatly animated but not all there.Hans at level 3...I just cant....
I downloaded project tempest but it makes trouble with my wired xbox360 controller. Also strafe seems to be the same button as open doors. Game is nearly unolayable for me like this.
@@nochilligames5289 you can read about the differences in the lonplay videos of both. Played 'Wolf3d The Second Encounter' 30 level campaign on Snes, 3do, Jaguar, Dos (mod), Mac and more!
Yes, on the EXTRA CARNAGE difficulty level some of the treasures (or pickups) are replaced by extra enemies. This only occurs on the Atari Jaguar. They often surprised me.
I have very fond memories of that Jaguar version. Spent many hours on it and I still consider it as one of the very best versions out there.
I still consider this one of the greatest games in video game history🙂
I remember seeing this for the first time, I was completely blown away.
Now who doesn’t love this port. Was one of the best at the time

The sound quality (for the guns) on this is excellent. Thank you for the video.
You're welcome! All episodes from different consoles are on my channel!
The "Achtung" in this version sounds a bit like Arnold Schwarzenegger
If you look closer, the pistol sprite in the Jaguar port is the one from Doom, not Wolf3D.
Not only that, but the credits splash screen in where it shows the developer’s names uses the Doom text font.

The music has a richer quality than the original OPL versions from the DOS version.
Pretty cool looking port. Those dogs movement is bit stuttery, but seems good all-in-all.
Doggos are cool by nature. Shame that those Nazi sprites trained them to be Nazi doggos :(

I want this game very badly. Shame it's so highly valued on a system that nobody liked back then and back now.
3DO port is better

I find it pretty interesting how you can double-up on ammo backpacks
This is a massive improvement over the SNES version, which was only trying to make itself legal in Germany, despite being set there.
It's bizarre that all console ports changed the MP40 to an anachronistic M16
Have you seen my latest Wolfenstein 3d videos? :D
Great to see that id Software reused Doom weapon sprites for this port.

Wolfenstein 3D is so much better on PC
That's why I've played all of them! I played it mostly on PC too :)
That sphere at the beginning is animating WAY too fast.
It looks better than DOS version, but worse than 3DO and Mac versions. And what with wrong sound clips?
