I drove a 2004 4runner SR5 4.0 from 2007-2016, I went to college in NH and grew up in VT. Hands down, the early version of A-Trac and locking center diff in these 4runners does amazing things. I can remember "clawing" up ice driveways in 4-LOW with all brakes firing to distribute power AND it still moved forward. These are great SUVs for snow and not terrible on gas IF you're grama for the drive.
Drove a 03 v8 4Runner with Goodyear duratracs in high school. Pretty fun vehicle to have in the snow. Gave me a ton of confidence in winter driving. Almost had to relearn how to drive in the snow when I ended up taking 08 camry to college.
Can you explain why the 285/70/17s are so light compared to other tires in the same size? Just curious of carcass construction is all. My wheeling, from a scale of 1-10, probably never exceeds a 6 or 7. I just want to get me to a great fishing spot. But I just encounter a lot of rocks here in Colorado and need sidewall strength. Thanks!
@Teagan B I am also wondering why these tires are so light? Some kind of superior “magnesium” rubber? They are 12lbs lighter than The Falken Wildpeaks in 275/70r18!

Since the front bumper makes it sag a little lower in the front and since they were already lower in the front than in the back from the factory I think a 2inch front spacer lift would help you out nicely they go on top of your struts up front and they are around 60$ on Amazon.

how are these e rated tires on a lighter suv ? considering these on my tacoma bc they are the lightest weight 32 i can find, down side they are E rated
Dude these tires are the holy grail in general for an all around all terrain tire, I have them in 275/70R17 on a 2011 R51 Pathfinder: ruclips.net/video/GPrh8fUhbL0/видео.html with a 1.5" suspension lift. It is my budget lite-overlander. I live in Atlantic Canada any anything older than 2010 is rusting apart, and 2011 4Runners are nearly double the price of my Pathy, so I take the crappy rear independent suspension as compromise. Anyway these tires are way lighter than something like a KO2 or Duratrac, so going a size or 2 up is hardly a hit on fuel economy, brakes and drivetrain wear and tear. They wear down so much better, everyone on RUclips who hits 30 or 40k miles on them can't believe they still have grip when KO2s would be like slicks. I can't hear them on the highway, and they have 3 peak snow rating. I haven't used mine in winter yet but after your review I can't wait for the snow to come.
