I got some reply’s from Josh on instagram. I did in fact verify that the album is chaotic and heavy. This is the most radio friendly song that will be on the album. This one was for Marcus. Very excited.
I was so happy to see them continuing to try new things. Its like a more NU metal inspired take which I LOOOVE. Great to see marcus also trying new styles! Next single is talking heads that more like the standard NL
Nik Nocturnal ya! I’m actually anxiously waiting on a new Bad Omens song and album soon, that’s gonna make my 2019 “personally” more hype 😃 hopefully soon, agree? 🤔
Zeek Fullerton the songs in the key of A# I think it’s 2nd fret drop G#, with an octave effect in the breakdown (like Korn do), defo not D# as suggested
This song is way more than just the instrumentals or the production. The meaning is what really makes this my favourite song on the album. I think the live version is better because Marcus sings the second chorus an octave higher and it really sends it home. Jinn, Freefall, 4D, and Bloodline are my faves
When it comes to technique, Marcus is right up there. On cleans his range is incredible and even right up the top his tone and placement is SO controlled. His fry scream execution is always flawless; both live and recorded.
@@gordonbennett4135 I know it is. I just hate using flats personally plus its note wise the same just not as easy to read since you have to add other things than just saying Ab lol
Cameron Archer Personally, I find flats to be easier to read, so do you really feel that it’s necessary to correct people based on your own preference?
@@leviwarner1119 to start I was being a trolling music theory elitist but no I don't but usually when anything has ever been handed to me in flats I've just seen it as lazy since all you have to do is add a "b" behind the note. I didn't listen Northlane except this, but for this song, drums are...simply cool. He is not hitting anything unnecessary, and when he hit, he hits hard.
Awesome! One of my favorites! There seems to be an old vs new singer debate, but both add something brilliant. I started listening to them with Discoveries. That and singularity have a sightly different sound than current as they’ve moved into a more industrial/nu-Metal slant. My favorites are abrasumente, transcending dimension, I shook hands with death, dream awake, genesis/scarab, node, rot, and intuition. Hope you enjoy them!
I got chills during this video multiple times. This song is song fucking dope. And watching you experience it how I did the first time I got chills for you lol
Just learnt the song is tuned to D#,G#,D#,G#,C#,F,A# on their baritone 7-strings but the song can just be played in Drop G# since they don't use the low D# in this song
I listened to it last night and first off was like woah this doesn’t even sound like them, then I continued to be blown away. Very impressive song, my favourite so far. I’ve seen them live in Sydney by the way, was a great concert.
The album is supposed to be very emotional and dark according to their interviews. It's definitely going to have a lot of aggressive sections but not many calm. Again this is all from the "Alien interview" videos on Northlane's RUclips channel
Liked the comparison with Linkin Park. It's definitely a tuned down LP track. Same epic sound an emotions (also this gigantic atmosphere) (edited) Imo this is a good step (as mentioned before from several people) to introduce more people in the metal scene
Pretty certain the song is actually just in the normal Northlane tuning, song revolves around the A# string but in the chorus there’s a chord with a low G# root
This is a really good analysis of the style of this song. I am a huge Northlane fan and am interested to see how the album sounds. I anticipate other songs in the album will be more instrumentally involved but you’re right this track was seemingly centered around Marcus. Idk the story but I believe this is something he went through earlier in life.
Heavy part at 3 min mark u said u cant go that low...Is it me or is that just typical KORN a#? to my ears they also do the korn trick of using octave effects to make it sound super beefy and even lower. I could be wrong tho!
Nice one ;) i was the same at the beginning. The bass was good. Also as you know Eric, i hope you read this. React to estonian metalband "Horror Dance Squad"
i think nik just came when it got heavy some of the screams might be from their new bassist guitar/ vocalist of structures, aka a fellow Canadian like yourself, which they wanted to show, the drum is share writing between programmed then personal modified
Great reaction to north lane nik your right Marcus did a great job on the screams and the clean vocals there very catchy lyrics and clean vibrant on the guitars very belt like melodies to it which I love great emotive notes on Marcus great heavy side on the track in the vocal parts there shit man this dude really went there in the song and the screams and the clean vocals so metal core there for north lane I think my reaction is that the bass line is outstanding on fire there in both the beginning to end very nicely done bass guitar I can hear it really well great heavy guitar rock feel to it on the heavyness nik this song is way over the top on my playlist here oh man nik that is a sick awesome track loved it loved the band and the vocalist so cool I like that they rocked better than the last album very awesome nik I have to agree with your statement reaction there bro yes 🙌 I rate this 5 niks for this reasons on this reaction nik great explanation you rock man love u 😍

Why is his voice so lowwwww
The tuning is Eb Ab Eb Ab Db F Bb
And the bass tuning is Ab Eb Ab Db
Like so Nik can see this. 🤘🤘
Sounds like some kind of drop A#/Bb to me with maybe a pitch shifter for the breakdown. Is there a spot with the open Eb I missed?
Actually, I played along with it today. I'm pretty certain it's in G.

Josh said this track is the most "radio friendly" and the rest is heavier
Oo hell yee!
Better be... not digging this really.
Damn, I was hoping for more of this or slightly lighter.
@Adam Nogell That's heavy in emotion. Like god damn, especially after watching "Negative Energy"
When it comes to technique, Marcus is right up there. On cleans his range is incredible and even right up the top his tone and placement is SO controlled. His fry scream execution is always flawless; both live and recorded.
Yeah Marcus is slaying it!
I love that everyone is picking up on the Linkin Park vibes in this...even if Northlane didn't intend this, it's a great tribute to Chester
I'm glad they've leaned hard into the sort of nu-metal sound since i found hints of it since Node
This was a dope track in that style no doubt!
@@NikNocturnal definitely recoomend The Brave their new album is of a similar sound
What nu metal ?
The beginning vocal part vaguely reminds me of the band RED, who I adore

Sounds SOOOO much like old Linkin Park. And I couldn't be happier about that.
4D is the most Linkin Park song they have in Alien and it's amazing, just like the whole album
Their drummer is what sets them apart for me. He has an odd style that is catchy. Not so much on this track, but overall.
Nic Pettersen is highly creative, and faaaairly skilled too, one of the better drummers in this genre for sure.

tbh I was missing Nic's complex drumming in this one, the synths are carrying most of the rhythm here, awesome breakdowns and chorus tho
I didn't listen Northlane except this, but for this song, drums are...simply cool. He is not hitting anything unnecessary, and when he hit, he hits hard.
