      I think the reason I was so calm is because of the frontal lobotomy I had done last year. It removed about 99.5% of my brain and now all I can do is move slow and operate a multimeter. Haha. (there should be a good job for me now at some government office, wouldn't you think).🤣 I've learned over the years to just take it easy sometimes...even with frustrating machinery but I do throw the odd wrench and swear like a pirate somedays just for good balance, but that's all off camera. What viewers get is the Cammomile tea me...with just the occasional wrench thrown. LOL

    That was very helpful. My bake element just went on my 10 years old LG LSC5683WS and I had no idea how to get this element out. I saw the panel but could not believe I had to rip it out. They are more likely building these oven around pre-assembled components and leaving this tab like this to save production time and money. Most people don't bother fixing things and just go out an buy a new oven anyway. I don't believe LG wants to make our life miserable as their motto is Life is Good!. Your tutorial was spot on and timely. The only difference is that my OEM replacement part ends with a 1!

      I've seen bake elements with burn marks before, but never one completely disintegrated like this one. Perhaps it has to do with the confined space in which it operates. The manufacturer could have created a better access door to facilitate changing the element but as I eluded to in the video, they really would prefer that you buy a new stove instead of fixing a broken one. Thanks for commenting!

    As a Seasoned Mechanical Engineering Service Tech, I have to say you did a great job explaining what your were doing and why you were doing it. Very great Concealed Bake Element Change Out walk through for a LG. Smart for removing the remaining debris, not everyone even takes a look inside to even see what make have cause the issue in the first place. Your situation it seems as though the heating element actually withstood the test of time and lasted long enough to possibly warp to the point of shorting out against the structure and grounding out to oblivion. Just a quick heads-up. It should have tripped your Circuit Breaker before the Grounding Out to Oblivion part happened. You may want to check your Range Circuit Breaker and wires along the way if this was not tripping your breaker at the time of turning on the oven and discovering that the oven was not working. We design these with fire & life safety in mind so there are several safety switches and fusible links between each heating element and the Circuit Breaker so if it was not tripping the breaker before the repair, you may want to check to see if you have a breaker going bad or oversized. Loose connection at any point in the wires for the element can cause melting at the wire terminals and insulators but not the the element, after all it is designed to get heated. So this leaves me to believe that if your breaker was not tripping, you either have an oversized breaker or a breaker getting ready to die out. Either way figure since you seem pretty thorough in your findings you might want to entertain this possible future repair. But just in case it did the amperage did not raise enough to trigger the breaker to trip (which is scary) the HLCS High Limit Control Switch should have kicked in and cut the power to the particular element, and if that failed then there are at least two to three more safety switches for backing up those safety switches per element. So get back in there and let me know what you find.

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for commenting! You are absolutely correct in your assessment of the stove tripping the breaker. But that was happening with the previous owner of this stove, until it stopped tripping, but the oven still would not work. My guess is that while the distorted element was making contact with the body of the stove, it tripped the breaker, but once the element broke into pieces, the situation moved from a SHORT to an OPEN circuit.
      I picked up the stove for FREE because the oven wouldn't work (no doubt about it) and one of the surface burners was inoperative. I was using the surface burners only in this cabin, with no use for the oven...until this video.
      It is still amazing how difficult it is to access this element. As I've said previously, it seems that the manufacturer would prefer a consumer buy a new stove than fix this oven!
      Best wishes and thanks again for your thorough and correct diagnosis!

      Perhaps you can fabricate a replacement cover from some sheet metal. Often, the big box stores will carry pieces of metal. Getting the old , broken pieces of the element out is important but not entirely necessary. Just so long as the new element will fit without interference. I’d try to get all the loose pieces cleaned out if I could, though. Sometimes a sheet metal shop can make you a new cover much less expensively than you might know. Best of luck. Not sure what the problem could be with your oven. Usually, it is a step-by-step elimination process to troubleshoot any appliance. There are many online sources to help. Try searching for "Kenmore Elite Double Oven Not Heating" and go from there. You can first try to reset your oven to factory by this method: How to Reset a Kenmore Elite Stove Oven
      1. Press the "7" button on the Kenmore Elite keypad.
      2. Continue holding the "7" button for at least six seconds until a single beep sounds.
      3. Press the "Start" button on the keypad once. This will reset the oven back to the factory default settings.
      Try any simple, step-by-step method to try to eliminate the components that work vs. those that do not. Remember, BE SAFE and don't attempt any repair beyond your skill level. Often, a qualified repair technician is the best call. They can save you time and money since they will know just what to look for. Good Luck.

    Great video. I have a 2007 LST5601ST and replaced the bake element with replacement part MEE36593201. The original element had indeed burned out in one spot. There was no continuity for it. By the way, the difficult plate on the back was easy to lift out once all the small connection points had been broken. Put in the new element and found out that the new bake element did not work either. Checked to make sure it hadn't failed as well, but it had continuity. I am really lacking in any electric or electronic knowledge. Any ideas what the problem might be? Might there be internal fuses or switches that might have gone off when the original burner failed?

    Thanks the video was great !

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects  3 года назад +2

      The preheat is definitely affected by either the broiler or the hidden bake element not functioning, because they both work together to bring the oven up to temperature. If the preheat takes a long time, or the oven doesn't get to temperature, I'd be looking at one or the other. The oven in the video was displaying that symptom exactly. It would take forever to reach the preheat (if at all). Best of luck with the repair! Remember, be safe! Power off at breaker + Unplug stove. Also watch for sharp edges on stove panels!

      @@EverydayProjects Yup that is exactly what happened to mine. I pulled out the temp sensor and it read 1097 ohms on my multimeter, which is within spec. Then went through elimination by testing the resistance on each of my elements starting with the broiler, the convection heater. They both tested around 17 ohms I think. When I got to the bake element, it had infinite resistance and no continuity just like shown in this video. I visually inspected the PCB power control board for any signs of heat damage or leaking filter capacitors. so far so good. I ordered an ew bake element for $120 as well as a new touch pad interface as they always end up cracking after year of usage.

      I wouldn't worry too much if you destroy the cover taking it out. Just try working around the edge by driving a flat screwdriver between the cover and the back of the stove (wear some gloves, it's sharp!). Once you have it out, if it's damaged, try flattening the cover on a hard surface by tapping with a hammer. If that fails, the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes sell small pieces of sheet metal that you could cut to size. The replacement cover doesn't have to be an exact replica, just so long as you cover the opening and it doesn't interfere with the electrodes of the element. I hope this helps! Good luck. The bake element is simply a resistance circuit that gets hot as a result of current passing through it. There should be no issue with hooking the element wires in reverse, since there is no polarity. In an alternating current circuit, the current reverses many times per second. In North America, current reverses at 60 Hz, which is 60 times per second.

      Good point! The extreme heat from self-cleaning ovens must have detremental effects on the life-span of the elements. Other times, the heat from the oven can damage other parts of a stove. I had a Jennaire Gas range that went through control boards because the board was mounted on the front of the stove immediately above the oven door. When I looked it up, I found countless forums about the exact issue from many owners. How did you find the part number for the element that you needed? I have an LG LCS5633WS (13 years old now..) that the hidden bake element just went on and I can't confirm the part number I need anywhere. Would it be the same as yours?

      Do an internet search for " LG stove parts". When you find a site that sells replacement parts, enter your model number, and search for the element from the list they provide. As an example, here is one of many sites that may be able to find your exact part. Good luck! www.repairclinic.com/Shop-For-Parts/a13b200/Lg-Range-Stove-Oven-Parts

      @@wyarmyboy I'd double check the part number. Sometimes I wear two pairs of glasses to read those numbers, they're small!

    What kind of sadist engineered this thing? I suspect my 10 year old LG has the same issue and I'm half tempted to throw it out.

      It appears that they'd prefer you did that, but the element can be changed. We live in a "Throw-away society" where product manufacturers seem to want you to buy their latest creation all the time. This thinking knows no bounds: cars, fridges, and small appliances follow this rule, even when the technology is out there to make things last for decades! Remember your grandmothers old refrigerator? Still running no doubt, but not the modern stuff! Thanks for watching and good luck with the repair!

    Helping a friend who has a Kenmore model 790.46893903 which also appeared to have no removable bottom panel. I am helping him remotely, and he tells me that the inside cavity of the oven has no seams - one continuous shell. I suspect that it must be like this one where the element has to be accessed from the back.
    Can anyone confirm for Kenmore model 790.46893903?

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects  3 года назад +2

      I found an online manual for that model (790.46893903 ) but the drawing seems to show that the bake element is visible inside the bottom of the oven. Are you certain the model number is correct? Here is the online manual: ftp://ftp.electrolux-na.com/prodinfo_pdf/lassomption/5995586210.pdf
      I will continue to research this issue and will reply with more information as I discover it. Best Wishes!

      @@EverydayProjects I think I got it. I was finally able to download the manual and the diagrams were the clearest I've seen. From that, I believe I've figured it out. You have to pull out the warming drawer, unscrew the baking element pan from the bottom and then get access to the element. I'll work on it tomorrow.

    My LG LRE30453ST/01 has this same hidden bake element and the cover PANEL will not come off after clipping like the service manual showed. I’ve used a chisel, a dremel, and tried to score the FAKE panel lines with sharp tools. This panel was not made to come off. I’ve managed to cut and mangle the metal along several areas so far but it’s still stuck. If I somehow manage to get it off will it even be safe to put back since it’s mangled? How to get this panel off?
    I appreciate your video. It should have been doable and a somewhat easy fix. Looks like it won’t be though because of this poor design by LG.
    Edit- I notice at 5:04 when you pressed along your panel the separation lines clearly showed . My panel does not show any separation at all when pressed.

      Cut out the panel with a jig saw with a short metal blade and install a new sheet metal piece, Home Depot / Lowes, etc. sells small pieces that would work. Just drill and use sheet metal screws to attach.
