    I have the same exact one and you DON'T need to hook the big black negative cable to the battery. You can hook it directly to a seat bolt or somewhere in the chassis because the battery terminal coming off the battery is just grounded to the chassis itself. This is DC (direct current) and not AC where it alternates and needs to come back to the power source like a breaker panel box in your house (black and white wires).
    The smaller ground wing nut is the "equipment grounding conductor". It basically helps grkund the inverter body. Just hook a wire up and ground it to a different ground point. I've never used it and my inverter still worked.

    I also purchased the Jupiter 2000 Watt Power Inverter from Harbor Freight. I also purchased two 24 volt deep cycle batteries and all the cabling to go with it. Never had to use them, but keep them for around for a "what if" scenario. I keep the batteries on a trickle charge so they're always primed. It's nice to see someone else who has purchased the same item putting it to some use. I liked your video!

    What I have found using my Skill Circular saw to prune the trees around my house I can only do it lightly before the breaker beeps and needs to be reset. If you try pushing a load through it it will pop the breaker every time. What I find my 2000 watt Power inverter is good for is the harbor freight saw saw for $20 with coupon doesn’t pop the breaker but I seem to only get about nine months of intermittent life out of the saw unit for the third time🤢🤮🤮. My recommendation also get yourself also a tiny 300 W unit the reason being you don’t want to deplete the batteries energy for small consumption uses.

      The reason your only getting 9 months is because this is a modified sine wave inverter, not a pure sine. Modified sine wave inverters, while cheaper, are not much good for long term use on certain components. Notice I say certain, because some electronics seem to weather better than others.

    The problem with testing the saw as your power draw is when you don't cut a board with that saw your not putting a load on it so it's not drying his much power is it would if you were to be say cutting a two-by-four

    I have the Jupiter 1000W version. Only because my RV fridge runs on propane or 120V. A little difficult to cool the fridge when no 12V system is available. It works well for me for that purpose. However, it produces a lot of RF noise if you plan on using radio equipment on the HF bands.

    Why did you choose a modified sine-wave (better called a modified square-wave) inverter? This really is a significant limitation to your system. You would do much better with a pure sine-wave inverter. The price at HF really isn’t great, even for a Modified Sine-wave inverter.

    Nice heavy duty cables! For out at your cabin, if you haven't already, drive a steel pipe or any long piece of metal down into the ground and you'll have a decent ground termination.
    I like that it can run that saw. That's 84W continuous but it could draw as much as double the current and of course more Watts. Hahaha as I'm typing that you were questioning the startup power draw of the saw. I would estimate the peak startup draw to be no higher than 15A.
    Excellent setup, it's come along nicely.

    • @BushcraftRidge
      @BushcraftRidge  4 года назад +2

    • @KirkHermary
      @KirkHermary 4 года назад +1

      @@BushcraftRidge definitely! For high power things like a plasma table it will have brass rods. For your application and the amount of total power, W, one piece of rebar as deep as you can hammer it down will be perfect. If it's rusted that won't be a problem. However if it's coated in epoxy or paint expose as much metal as you can. To "bond" the wire to the rebar a clamp is more than enough. Even just wrapping several turns of the bare end of the ground wire then wrapping in tape will be perfect.

      Another F Y I is for every 1000 watts you should have a battery. Each battery can provide 1000 watts, but if for some reason you need to run say 1800 watts and it has to surge to 3000 watts something is going to trip or burn out.
      It does not matter if you use a set of 24DC or 27DC OR 31DC batteries, there should be 4 batteries for an inverter that surges to 4000 watts. We own several size invertes and the inverter best matched to the power draw. We have 125, 250, 450, 750, 2000 and 3500 watt inverters. If I am only running some LED lights at night I use the 125 watt 250 surge inverter. We also have two battery banks that I can tie together for 8k of total surge watts if using several inverters at the same time. We live in Florida and deal with a lot of power outages and brown outs.
      Hope this helps anyone who did not know. My system is over 10 years old and all my inverters still work but one. Had to repace the 750 watt after a few years.
      AMPS X VOLTS = WATTS
      1 AMP X 120 VOLTS = 120 WATTS

    You said you grounded the inverter to the chassis of the vehicle ? But that's not true ground it's a relative ground. True ground would be a ground spike in the ground. The chassis of the vehicle metal would be relative ground as the tires isolate the vehicle from the ground. So, if there were a short to the vehicle chassis, I assume it would protect you from a shock. The inverter is isolated from everything, so in theory, you would get a shock between live and natural unless you touched live and earth on the appliance. But now live and the chassis of the vehicle would shock you. I'm not sure of the advantage of the ground wire you added to the chassis of the vehicle. But yes, follow the instructions supplied and get advice from a professional.

      @rudolphcastle9110 3 года назад

      I think there is confusion because of battery terminology. Use a deep cycle "marine" battery. These batteries are designed to be drained to nearly empty and then recharged multiple times. Typical car cranking batteries will work but are designed to supply many amps up front then have be recharged relatively quickly. Most likely you wouldn't get the life out of them if used to power an inverter long term. I would guess the inverter is not designed or suitable for use in wet locations such as on a boat.

    Would this be able to power a 807w sump pump?

    • @phillipbautista204
      @phillipbautista204 10 месяцев назад

      807 watts divided by 120 volts = 6.7 amperage. Should be quite doable since he’s running a 7 amp saw.

    Hi i am not mechanically inclined in any fashion. I was wondering what the piece that you used to connect your ground wire to the inverter is called.

  • @robertberry3394

    Watch before grounding solar panels and inverters. John Daniel -Grounding your Solar Panels? Electrician.

  • @christopherhaak9824

    The ground needs to go to the earth if you are going to use it. Grounding to the vehicle frame does nothing - it isn't grounded. If you ground to the vehicle frame, it can actually be worse if you are using a 12V system tied into the vehicle battery as you are essentially tying into the negative on the battery not an actual ground.

    • @BushcraftRidge
      @BushcraftRidge  3 года назад

      Thanks for the tip! When actually in use I use rebar driven into the ground to ground the system.

      @matthewstorm5188 2 года назад

      I don’t think you could. Like most portable inverters, this one runs on 12V. The traction battery in a Prius produces FAR more than that.

    • @Goody2shzToo
      @Goody2shzToo Год назад

      A Prius also has a regular 12-volt battery. That's what you connect the inverter to.
