“At least I didn’t just leave you a note.” . This tragic play was phenomenal. The actresses were phenomenal. I stood in my living room and gave it a standing ovation!
I have loved this play for many years and have seen several performances on stage as well as the movie. But THIS performance was TOP NOTCH! Both of these actresses were amazing! Bravo!
This is the first time I’ve actually gotten through an entire play on RUclips or video before....they’re just not easy to watch unless they’re live. Andrea and Jessica’s performances were impeccable, though. I couldn’t stop watching. In particular, Ms. Hochkeppel breathed life into the character of Jessie and truly made me feel her plight, made me feel her pain and angst. Her inflections were spot on, her timing is perfect, and not a single thing was overdone or not believable. She’d be the perfect actor for another film version. Cheers to you both!
I read this play my senior year in high school (25 years ago). All I remembered was that it was good, so I wanted to revisit it. This was so well done! Jessica Sage made me cry a couple of times. Both actresses did a great job. Bravo
@@CaptainSpalding72 I liked the movie- but would love to have seen the original play- Kathy Bates had Sissy Spacek's part- I think we can both agree that this particular production is very very good.
@@CaptainSpalding72 The movie didn't stink! Most of the time, the evolution of a stage play to a movie doesn't work out. But, I believe the movie actually worked. Plus, Anne Bancroft & Sissy Spacek were the perfect introduction to such a heartbreaking yet powerful & moving play as "'night, mother!"
Wonderful play and movie, reminded me of myself and my Mother, who though i loved her i can't forgive her for using me and even though i came from a large family i was so alone. 😢 She passed years ago and i find it hard to visit her grave. Someday maybe.
After watching the performance again I must complement these two actresses what a fantastic job they did Sissy Spacek and Anne Bancroft would have been would be proud of them fantastic story
WOW! What an amazing production of such a heartbreaking, moving play. I've had the opportunity to see a couple other productions of "'night, mother!" over the years. But, i must say that this was one of the best I have seen. I even believe that, except for the movie, this set was definitely the best. Most times a set can become much too complicated, and distracting. This set was perfect. Both actresses gave moving performances, and should be proud of giving so much of themselves away. BRAVISSIMO!
I have seen the movie so many times. I actually came across this video looking for the movie, and I'm so glad I did. This was extraordinary and these 2 women were exceptional!! I didn't expect to have an emotional reaction to the "night mother" but between the acting and the audience I definitely did. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 BRAVO LADIES and thank you for sharing your gifts.
Yes, this was an excellent production, the acting was wonderful,of course when a play like this is performed so well,it has a very strong, emotional and visceral impact,a part of me almost wishes that it was a bad production with terrible acting so It wouldn't have upset me like it did. I cried for the last ten minutes and busted out sobbing when it was over. I have dealt with chronic depression my whole life and this portrayed it very well, the emptiness and exhaustion of living a life incapable of feeling joy and enthusiasm, and you wonder what is the point of sticking around if you are just existing, not really living. We don't talk about it because we want the people in our lives to be able to know what we are going through, but people are not mind readers and if you put up a good facade, like so many people with depression do, nobody will know,no matter how much they might love and care about you.the mother said at the end "I was here with you all the time, how could I know you were so alone". We feel if you really loved me, you would know and I wouldn't have to say anything, but it doesn't work like that. You wait and wait for someone to simply say "I understand you and I'm here for you", but it never comes, the best I have ever gotten from my father was,"Are you depressed? I can find a psychiatrist for you if you want". This is such a powerful performance of this play that deals with this topic, I almost wonder if there should be some kind of trigger warning at the beginning. Best of luck to you 💙
@1:15:13 The mom almost had her stop the plan, because she unleashed her anger. Anger is a powerful tool that sometimes unsnaps a depressed morbid person like this daughter. Parents are too afraid to use anger when confronted with this kind of child, they often cater to them or try their best to appease them. Anger works to snap them out of it.
@42:00 Jessie can kill herself but her mom can't even throw away her pots and pans. Why no agency for the mom? Mom thought Jessie was hers but Jessie thought her mom was just a stereotype of a generic mom.
The mom was ok.. but the one who played jesse needed more warmth to her. Sissy spacek was more caring to her mother in the movie. This one was way to harsh thru out the play
I've seen the movie twice, and feel the acting here was easily on par with the original. The only criticism was that unlighted cigarettes not actually being smoked were more distracting than if they had been omitted.
The set is good. The acting is okay. I think the lack of clear beats and units made the performances confusing and a bit disoriented. You can hardly see the overall objective from both of the actors.
That interesting. I didn't find it to be either of confusing or disoriented. I though they were both very clear with what they wanted the audience to see. Very good performances for both actors.
I'm not sure I understand that comment. There's only 1 objective for both. Jesse wants to kill herself and mama wants to keep her from doing it. Nothing confusing there
One of the most horrible movie I ever seen! So disappointed in Sissy S. What a display was a pure selfish act with feelings and care for no one else but the character it promotes suicide and hurting others it is terrible
No one's "promoting" suicide. This is reality. Depressed people are already thinking about it without any outside influence. Maybe this opens the eyes of someone close to them and enables them to intervene.
Jessie is the most sadistic, abusive villain I've ever seen in any media. "I'm going to torture and toy with you all night, and by the way make me hot chocolate" that her mother keeps humoring her is frustrating as hell. The most casually evil character I have ever seen.
