- In this video, I install the new wheels and tires I got for my Mini. A friend of mine who is a mechanic at Acura told me to bring my wheels and tires in, and he’d mount them up for me as they got new machines to mount and balance wheels that will not damage or touch your wheel.
I brought them in and he did a killer job!! Thanks Zac :)
After mounting, I wanted to show you what they look like on the car so I wanted to bring the car outside, and it started to misfire in cylinder 4. I’m 99% sure I found out what the problem is, and I should be able to get the car on the road by the end of the week.

MY TIRES ARE NOT MOUNTED IMPROPERLY!!!
They are designed to have a certain part of the tire mounted outwards. The straight up and down part of the tire is supposed to be mounted towards the inside of the car, and the sideways vanes are to be mounted towards the outside of the car. These Toyo R888R's ARE NOT a directional tire, as the standard Toyo R888's are.
Hope this clears up some confusion :)
two possible things that might have happened..
first and obvious thing is that they were mounted incorrectly on your wheels..
second, in some of the tire models they have 1 set of "Left" and 1 set of "Right" for each side, it is possible u were shipped with 2 set of left asymmetrical tires.
either way, THEY ARE MOUNTED INCORRECTLY. those outside treads on right side are supposed to curl like the left side in order to channel water outwards..
get it checked by a professional/ experienced guy.
Abid Haidary naw dude it's a race tire it wasn't designed to channel water. Both sides will perform the same in dry conditions.
Yeah, I remember that the outside-inside markings on the Falken Azenis RT215 (back in the day) also has near similar tread pattern. They are not directional tires. What matters is the outside and the inside of the sidewall
Similar with the current Toyo R888Rs, they are not directional.
Due to that also, they both, perform very poorly in the rain. The newer compound on the R888Rs give a slightly better edge in the wet, but it still aquaplanes easily.
But dry grip is PHENOMENAL. Not as soft as slicks, but it also wears slower than slicks.

We hate the term because it's not a wide body kit, like you initially said. It's JUST fender flares.
but it could be a wide body kit if he gets the front/rear bumper and skirts to match the flares in the future wich in time might happen give the guy some credit
Widebody/Fender Flare controversy aside, the wheels and overall stance are a total knockout. Easily one of the slickest Coopers I've seen in a while. Plus I admire the work you put in to get the car where it is now. Calling out someone for not having a "widebody" is so much easier than actually picking up a grinder and rust proofer paint and doing it all hands on - All or nothing.
The reason why people hate when you say the term wide body kit so much might because you hyped up the announcement WAY TOO MUCH. People got disappointed.. Your wide body kit install ended up being a flared fender replacement...

Seriously nothing more annoying then the misconception... Widebody fender flares is a sales tactic bc most posers want widebody and those who dont know the difference will buy whatever says widebody

personally you should throw the 8mm spacer u had on the front, onto the rear so the rear has a slightly more aggressive look. rite now to me anyways, the front looks more aggressive then the rear. i think that extra 8mm would help fill in that overfender perfectly.
other then that one minuscule opinion she looks night and day better

When you got this car I knew you were going to run into this carbon build up problem. Its more than notorious. I can tell you from experience your going to be cleaning the valves more then once. I'm not sure what year R56 you have but the motors in the R56 run are not BMW engines. I'm guessing you have the prince motor. The best motor in the R56 run is the N18. which helped address this severe carbon issues but by no means is a cure. Most direct injected motors have these type of issues. Just some address it better then others and MINI wasn't one of them until the N18 run. If you are still running the sock turbo with the stock oil lines to the turbo I would highly recommend changing out the lines or at least check them. The turbo cooks the oil so severely it begins to break down the oil and plugs the lines going to the turbo.. You will have a costly failure if you don't keep an eye on it.. No worries. I just wanted to give you as much info as possible. I'm no stranger to MINIs. I just didn't want to come off as a no it all. I did some checking and you have the N14 motor. Which is the motor you want to keep a close eye on. Things like carbon build up, timing chain tensioner failure, turbo failure, and vacuum pump failure which can all cause total motor failure. I will pm you my email. And don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. Make no mistake MINIs are fun they just aren't for the kind hearted.

Brian K Oh nvm, I was looking at the wrong one. I have the DCT one so it says I have the N18B16
You actually have the N18 motor which is much less problematic then the prior motor the N14. MINI Coopers that are from 2007-2010 and some 2011s that had the N14 are the ones you want to keep a watchful eye on. You should be fine but with that said always pay close attention to how your motor is performing. strange noises and poor performance are signs of trouble. Specially once the mileage of the car gets higher. I have a 2013 R56 JCW and have been worry free. Just keep up on your oil changes and what I stated above. And remember happy motoring! :) MINIs are a blast to drive!
Did you install the tires backwards? the tread should be pointing forward?

Willow Fiasco that are asymmetrical tires which means they need to be mounted a certain way for maximum performance. The shop that mounted then messed up
I have the same tires on my car and they are to be fitted with the line in so they are mounted correctly, otherwise two tires would not have been mounted opposite

My moms did the same thing put in seafoam and your good to go, cleans all the carbon out.

I work at a BMW dealership. We've had one of those machines for years. Mercedes, Porsche and other high end brands have them too. Some of them you just tap a few buttons on a screen and your tires are done

The 3 main problems with N14 engines: Cam chain guides and tensioner, coke build up int the head and high pressure fuel pump failure. I would check all of those first before spending any money on upgrades. Believe me, getting these engines sorted can be expensive.
Sorry that you had the carbon problem, but happy that you're going to do a video on it. The ones out there right now aren't that great and it's on my list to do on my '09 R56 JCW.

IMO.Before next oil change try sea foam (cap full) in the oil. Run for a full tank of gas then change the oil with full synthetic. Try seam foam in gas to clean injectors. Sea foam spray to clean carbon from valves, piston heads. Worked for me.
Always run mini's with oil level on high side of stick range. Check overy third fuel tank full fill. Change more than recommended maintenance interval. At least the filter. IMO.
Hey man I had the same problem with my engine. I have pretty bad carbon build up as well. I swapped out all my coil packs and that fixed it. Food for thought.

Had timing chain, clutch, water pump, new plugs, etc performed 4/20. 12/20 driving down the highway heard a pop or bang and lost power flashing engine light and limp mode. No unusual smoke from exhaust. Tried moving coil packs around. Ran codes and got p0300 p0302 and p0304. Took to garage they said no compression in cylinder #2. Now waiting for what the issue is. The mini has a tire pressure indicator, when changing the wheels what do you need to do so the indicator will work or not?

add the weight of the spacer to your new wheels if you are doing weight comparos
Will you be doing anything to prevent paint damage to your door from when your front wider wheels kick up rocks when driving? Many people have this issue with wide body or fender flares.

2:24 how do you have lug nuts with bolts attached to your brake hub? I have a Mini R56 JCW and I have 17mm conical seat bolts on my car, the same ones found on my 135i. I’ve never seen hub mounted bolts on these cars.

Another question: My car idles low and I mean low enough to stall when the AC is on. Cleaning and replacing the idle control valve and the throttle body doesn't change anything. It's port injection. I have no misfires at the moment. Is it possible that carbon buildup is affecting it somewhere?

Wow $1000 for a carbon cleaning? I got my Lexus walnut blasted for $600 by a local shop and apparently it the process was twice as long as BMW engine. So I think BMW is just scamming you.

My MAF sensor is giving me the same type of misfire you are having, then again, could be the carbon buildup too
I was having a misfire and timing at idle was shit. Valves cleaned still had the issue. Ended up being a Vanos Solenoid and fixed. Do you know what offset would be needed with 255's on 9" wheels up front with those flares? Looking to add them to my MINI and not run spacers.

The wheels look great with the wide fenders but the fenders look terrible with the stock bumpers and side skirts. Once you replace those it will look awesome. I wish they made them for my F56 but it doesn't look like it yet.

milanmastracci The THP engine is a engine that is developed by Bmw and Peugeot just like yours the 1.6 turbo. It's know as a problematic engine with allot of carbon build-up and timing chain problems. there even is a software update for it that should help a bit. (I work at a Peugeot dealership in the Netherlands, we almost every week have a THP engine with problems)
