The "good old days" when the stands were PACKED! Didn't have to give away tickets to age outs, didn't have to sell tickets for $5.00 to locals a couple of days before quarter finals. There were at least 10-15 corps you just had to see. And you cheered them on. Not 2 or 3 and most have people sitting on their hands.
I agree 100%. Thanks to DCI, destroyed the great activity Kama of real drum and bugle Corp. Today is April 25th 2022. Former member of the Long Island sunrises, 1964 through 1968.
That show was the greatest to hear it and see it live from the stands! Your eyes couldn’t get all that was happening. VK should’ve gotten placed higher than they did. Thanks for posting! 🍺🌴
VK had a sense of humor. Everyone else? Not so much. That's what made VK cool. They didn't care. Fun fact, that's me that yelling "as far as you know" at 8:45.
They played hard, but they worked hard. They were running bare bones for finances that year. They had to borrow one of our buses (Vanguard) to get to a show . . . don't remember where.
I've been a DCI fan since the mid 70s and had the pleasure of seeing this show in Madison and other VK shows. I've not seen it in many years but still love what they did. I especially like the 'bottle dance' bit. I saw part of the show on a different youtube feed & said, "I would not be upset if another corps like this came on to the scene today." A bit of comedy can never hurt as long is it's done well. (There are some truly cringe-worthy portions though...) Again, comedy is ok when it's done well and backed up by good drill, musicians and guard work.
Cringe worthy? Like Stalin being hit in the head with a hammer? The rifle scene? The fat lady scene? What exactly was cringe worthy? I thought the whole show was spectacular, and funny as shit. Back when people weren't offended at absolutely everything!
I agree it was funny as shit but...the rickshaw bit. I guess we weren't as easily offended as we are now. Again, I'd love to see a corps like this again.
Was in the stands at Finals...they got---deservedly so--the largest applause of the evening!!!
And, THAT, my friends, is DRUM CORPS!!!!
wow, you couldn't make a show like this today

Academy and Jersey Surf had some shows of similar vibe.
How DARE that guy hold a FAKE rifle! Lol
How DARE they make fun of FAT women! Lol
Velvet Knights are like if the Stanford band was actually good.
A rare medium well done!! Loved this corps!! Sadly you’ll never see anything like this ever again!!

Bridgemen- Funny and good. VK- hold my beer.
Thank you for posting this! So drum corps actually had a sense of humor at one time - amazing.

Started with the Bridgemen.
VK did it so well because they were actually really good, technically. The humor was just an added bonus.
Wish I was alive to see this corps live. I really love Velvet Knights and their goofy and awesome vibes
Agreed what a time
That brings back memories.

Thank you so much for posting this. 2020 has been a terrible year, but the Velvet Knights have kept me laughing all year long! :)
I was getting ready to watch this just expecting comedy, not a show that I would actually like and be impressed beyond belief by!?😂
Like the freaking sopranos triple tounging!?!?
Great stuff man!!!!
Keep a heads up for New Zealand girl Courtney Coulston reacting to this show very soon.

Really like the second tune. “Brassieres....they’ve got all shapes and sizes at Sears”. Oops, maybe the wrong lyrics😀😀😀
It’s crazy to think any corps organization before 1999 doesn’t know what spongbob is
