yo this is some of the greatest and most beneficial content i have seen on youtube no cap
Thank you. That means a lot!
This channel is a hidden gem for any coach. Thank you for all the great information and content.
Dane is so knowledgeable! He was my coach for weightlifting and helped me improve tremendously. Now I’m a runner and use a lot of his strength methods in my training. If you’re looking for an all around great coach. Dane is your man!
As a d2 college runner I really appreciate this video. My running personally has improved from strength training
Great to hear!
@@GarageStrength keep pumping out this great content. I originally found your channel looking into Olympic lifting tips to help with my cleans. Being an exercise science major I love how you tie in the anatomy and biomechanics to the lifts you talk about in your videos. Good luck in Tokyo 💪🔥
Weight training has become essential for me as a distance runner in improving economy and staving off injury.

I started strength training again. I don't have a weight set so I just use resistance bands. I'm training for the Peachtree road race. Last year my time was 44' 37". Hopefully this year it will be even better.
So glad you addressed this, bc iv tried and tried to explain to running coaches how important it is for distance runners to strength train. its not all about running only, having the ability to push through a race starts in the weight room no matter what the sport is. I even perform box jumps with my long distance runners.
I love running.
thank you! i’ve been waiting for this video
Hope you like it!
I just start coaching cross country. Thank you for this channel
This is absolutely essential, especially for female runners and for all runners as they age.
Certainly. Everyone needs to strength train regardless of sex 💪
Yess thanks for the video 😆.
Nice, informative video for any runner!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you, Everyone is missing on Core Power!!!!!!!! Yes we talk about the Core Exercise BUT not how to use it when running!!!!!!!!!!!
When you don't use your Core power, you are just SWINGING your arms, hips and legs in the air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In Kickboxing, all the punches and Knee Kicks are powered by Core muscles, so much power added by core!!!! In running we have to harness the core power!!!!!
I used to concentrate on each induvial movement of my arms, hips and legs, now ,I don't, I just concentrate on my Core movement, your core synchronize the upper and lower body movement.
I use my core power to run and not my legs , you swing your legs and arms, they are powered by Cores.
Imagine a spring Rod, try to fold and let go!!! The ends are your legs and arms, middle where all the power is , is the core!!!
When I was preparing for my first ultra marathon - 50 miles - I began doing much more squats, lunges, sled pushes and pulls, deadlift and so on.
despite the terrible terrain on the run (it was a trail run with many hills), I never really had issues with leg soreness or felt like I was losing the ability to keep generating power. I fully stand by strength training helping endurance sports.
I’m doing the same thing now in prep for a marathon and it’s working nicely.
Thank you for this! I went from running 5 to 10 miles at a time to only being able to run 1 mile at a time after a year away from running and the weights I thought this was my problem but I didn't know for sure because I was doing drugs and what not so I thought I screwed myself, but when I was running 7 miles at a time I was also powerlifting fairly well. Now I know that if I want to run again I gotta hit the weights. Thanks.
Appreciate the videos. When I saw the term distance runners I was not thinking 1500m or 5000m. I was thinking more like 13.1 miles or 26.2 miles and beyond.
Good stuff!!!!
Dane, I've been a fan for a minute. I'm an endurance based athlete. I've been searching for so long for content about this sort of thing, essentially how to combine my aerobic conditioning with ongoing muscular endurance training/ functional fitness training/ olympic lift technique. I've struggled with programming for myself, trying to combine cycling, swimming, running, and strength training, being greedy and wanting to excel in all of them, on top of family life, work life, and serving in the military. Additionally, because I really enjoy your content, I've forced my kids and my wife to watch your vids too (wrestlers, football players, dabbling in some BJJ). Thank you for the ongoing content. Thank you for always representing some east coast Hip Hop with the T shirts. Thank you for vids about "old man strength". Thank you for merch. Don't stop what you're doing. I love your passion, dedication, delivery, and material.
Respect from France 🔥💪🏾 I’m looking for a nice training for my team (on the beach/adult) ... any ideas for strength speed vertical quickness ?
This is great information… We need to get past the whole distance runners need to just lift light weights with lots of reps which is ridiculous. They need to do some thing other than just duplicate what they do on the role in the track. Your ideas are totally in the right direction!
Hi, do you plan on making a strength training for long jump video? Or a strength training for long jump program?
More videos about distance/ultra/trail running!!
Is that nick in the thumbnail ?! Thanks for the information 🙏 you put out there for us.
Yes it is! LOVE BISON
Big dawg got that Freddie Gibbs T
Hey man do a video about rugby strenght and conditioning!
Strength training is huge for distance. Just be careful, don't be like the girl doing the clean, feet are duck and you see pronation and knee collapsing in. If you do this stuff, keep the feet straight and track the knees properly otherwise you're heading down a bad path
if your talking about mobility what’s your opion on long distance runners doing calisthenics?
Do a video for strength training and what supplements to take for female high school wrestlers. It’s one of the fastest growing sports in the country.
nick symmonds in thumbnail = W
Your shirts are 🔥
Pls do a video about core training for shot put and a video about how to get a better pull at discus
Stay tuned to our Throws University channel 💪
@@GarageStrength yes. Thanks for your content
Can you do something for parkour athletes?
when is it best to do strength training? off season? in season?
Right NOW
I just focus on bench press for my distance running
Yo, where'd you get that Gangsta Gibbs shirt my man? I looked for it on Google pero no dice!
I need detailed workouts for my cross country runners. I want to do this right. Please advise.
Hello. I just started going to gym (10 weeks now) and I have been doing PPL, so I only spend 3 days at the gym, an hour and half at each. I do trail running/hiking on weekends. Will I improve my endurance this way if i keep doing it? is there any videos i can watch after this? i really love this vid and i learned a lot. I started to question my PPL training because a coach said i need to follow a specific program for my trail run sports.. I was a bit sad that all those workouts I enjoyed might hinder my running like it will lessen my endurance or something (it helped my posture a lot! and i can finally feel my glutes engage)
This is all really informative and good advice other than assertion that taking less strides will save the athlete energy. All the evidence suggests the opposite is true. Running economy is actually improved by taking more strides. Taking less strides is likely to lead to over-striding, which increases energy consumption and the risk of injury, while reducing the overall efficiency of the runner.
That's an awesome shirt
REAL 1NE 👆
It's the Bison in the thumbnail 🐃
Yes sir. Would love to work with him sometime! BIG FAN 💪
👍👍👍
Loving these videos, but the Freddie Gibbs shirt brought me to the comment section!🔥
Wait a minute, Is this Justin from Mind Pump?
No.
What kind of running shoes do you recommend?
this aint a running channel but I gotchu fam
max cush recovery shoe - asics gel nimbus 25
everyday training (just buy this if you don't have the money for a rotation) asics novablast 3
trail run shoes: hoka speedgoat 5
speedwork shoes: saucony endorphin pro 2 or 3
race day shoes
sprints: nike maxfly
md: nike air victories or nike dragonflys
XC 5k-10k: nike dragonfly XC or nike vaporfly 2/3 (or nike victory waffles if youre in a budget)
marathon shoes: nike vaporfly 2/3 or nike alphafly 2
So what kind of strength training can I do in the weight room
Go heavy so thst you can only do 1-5 reps, and do deadlifts, squats, overhead press, pushups with weight on your back, pullups or inverted rows, and you should be fine👍
I would like to argue with your stride, it is shown that it is better to have a 180 cadence then something lower then that so having a longer stride only helps on the very last stretch
If you are running at 180bpm and have a short stride that means you are moving slowly. If you are running at 180bpm and have a long stride that means you are moving quickly.
Be funny to watch how many channels would go down if HRT and TRT weren't available... lol..
The 2nd concept goes directly against what the guys at the strength running podcast say Oregon project coaches preach. I’m torn on which philosophy is right
I have to wonder what type of coach would have you wear a mask when your exercising, how much you can trust him.
I just started squatting a week ago and I’m 185 and squatted 185 is that good
no
squatting the equivalent of your body weight is impressive considering you're new to the movement
this is why being 240 pounds is the perfect weight for a 5k runner
I get it, perfect trunk control, crazy strong push off the ground every step
Haha, "for the sake of ease of maths, let's say you run 400m in 120 strides..."
I mean... 400 strides would have been easier and just a bit closer to accurate but OK.
Agree distance runners need strength training. Disagree that the 800m, 1500m, 5000m are distance races. Get strength in the gym, get endurance on the road.
By the end of minute 3, I realised this was a 'talkie video' and not an exercise video...so I stopped watching
