Great interview, it was really nice hearing Chris talk about the process and talk about how underworld was considered. I'm glad they went with Fang Rock, and the updated effects for it look great.
That was a very nice interview! I will always watch Horror of Fang Rock with the optional FX switched on as I like to be able to see the Rutan clearly after years of a green jelly lol!
Great interview. I LOVED the new fx and tweaks for Fang Rock. A great story now perfected. I really appreciated the work done to make the b/g in the lighthouse consistent with camera movements. Top marks!
Awesome interview! Cant wait until next month when it releases in North America and i can enjoy my favorite stories on BD, and one with updated effects 😊 (Fang Rock, The Sunmakers, and the Invasion of time in that order)
Absolutely love Fang Rock - one of my all time favourites. Looking fwd to seeing the new fx version. Jason, you REALLY need to go back and watch Space 1999. (1st Series)
Ha! I _thought_ the new Rutan looked like a practical effect. And, maybe, given my age, my mind accepted it more than had it been computer animation. I love the observation that the lighthouse stairs are on the outer wall yet the rooms still have windows. That kind of thing bugs me in productions. However I guess you _could_ say that the spiral staircase was not continuous, but a series of separate sections, allowing each room to still have sections of external wall.
I haven’t watched the new special effects yet, but it’s always good to hear about the skill and hard work that goes into our beloved show. I do question whether Fang Rock really needed it though. I’ve always thought it was a solid production and the original Rutan looks suitably gruesome and convincing.
Thanks Stephen. Yes, I agree, especially in terms of the Rutan itself, which I always liked. But I think Chris and the BBC themselves acknowledge that new effects are essentially a bit of added fun. 😊👊
I think the assumption these days is to believe that all the new effects are computer generated. It's great that a puppet was used. The new Rutan is a wonderful interpretation that retains the elements of the original but has the appearance of being a 1977 Doctor Who monster if they had more money.
Strangely, just for a change, I also now have my The Collection Season 15 set. Yes, it made it all the way over here and in pretty good time. Anyway, that aside, great interview Jason.
