Hi jason I hope we have season 7 or 25 rumours circle of 1970 season hmmm or 1988/89 might be I really hope so SU garden
Really excited to finally watch this lost classic.
Recon stills don't work for me so I'm really grateful for the animating this one. It's been my most wanted lost story for years
Ah cool, I'm very glad you're buzzed about this one! :)
Is the reconstruction on the disc
@@teamsonicchannel4400 yes! it's on disc 1.
I ended up pre-ordering this months ago for the NA release before I had seen the other animated features. Since then I have matched some of those and love their art style and became worried I wouldn't enjoy the 3D aspect of this as much, but I happily got the BluRay and sat down and watched the story and loved it!
Sure I think it could have done in the same art style as the others but this one worked well imo. There were a few lipsync issues imo but overall I am happy to see any of these older stories made available in high quality like this! 😊
Awesome, glad you enjoyed! I started to watch with my kids in the hope they'd warm to it... but actually one of them found it too scary! That stuff is hard to predict, ha...
I think the art style fits the weird world of the toy maker from what I've seen. I like that it's all off and different. Have to wait until I see it of course. But quite excited!
Brilliant. And yes, I'm looking forward to seeing how the artwork marries with the story. 😊👊
looking forward to watching this story for the first time, and to see 100% confirmation of a reversible sleeve, wow that makes me happy, to add another Hartnell to the collection and have it not look out of place with the others, bring on June 10th!
Hooray! Really pleased that the video made you more buzzed up about this release :)
Can't wait to get my hands on copy
A very nice set! :)
I have ordered the Steelbook from Amazon (for completeness) and I'm prepared to give it a chance.
Good man, sir! I haven't seen the steelbook design yet - must check it out :)
If we're watching this, you know we're gonna want you to review it. That's kind of a silly question. Is it uploading yet?
Hehe, noted Joe! :)
@@jarnopp The upload is finished uploading and now processing, right?
Will order soon, I wonder what missing story will be next animated 🤔
Which one would be your choice, Ray, if you had a magic wand? :)
The Dalek's Master plan would be fantastic or my second choice, The Wheel in space, I do love a Cybermen story.
@@raymoorey8425 defo Wheel in Space I've always enjoyed that story even though apparently it's not very popular in Whodom 🤣
I've ordered my DVD regardless of how people feel about the animation. It's something to watch anyway.
Absolutely! It's still a classic Doctor Who story. :)
@@jarnopp It's one I've waiting to see for a long time. "Celestial" doesn't bother me by the way, in the Toymaker's case it means outside this world which he is. Just the BBC trying to make it racist for the sake of it.
@matthwe3468 I always thought it was referring to Space or heavenly deity. When the drama kicked off found out the word wasn't really used in the UK since the 1700s, other countries may of used it back in the early 1900s but it's context has always been sky or heavenly apparently even way back in the Ancient Roman Times.
I'm certainly intrigued to see it when my copy arrives, and I'd love to see your thoughts on it in a future video. Cheers!
Thanks Bret - noted!
Shame there's no official release date for this in Australia. Hopefully it'll be in stores here in around 3 months.
Gah, you have my sympathy. Hope things change soon!
Thanks for the video Jason. Please do a review of this release as I would like to hear your impressions of it.
Cheers, noted! :)
My copy which seems to have been on order forever arrives next week.
I am looking forward to seeing it and do not mind the wacky approach to animation and will not judge it until I have watched
Look forward to seeing what you think - on a side issue - any news on which season of the Dr Who collection will be ?
Great episode.
Thank you! Glad you're looking forward to this one.
As soon as I have news on the Collection, you'll hear all about it! :)
How the heck is celestial offensive? It literally means “relating to the sky or heavens.”
Because it was also used to refer to "the Celestial Empire", a term used for modern-day Chinese lands, with the single-word version always having a derogatory meaning.
The next animation's they should do is 1. The highlanders 2. Marco polo 3. The Wheel in space.
Nice list! Think I'd choose Wheel myself. :)
Hi! Can you show your Blu-Ray collection again updated or just as a post.
At least the Doctor and co. don't have to wrestle with Resident Evil's tanky controls while negotiating the puzzles 🙂
Hehe. Indeed. Or presumably really creepy giant spiders 👀
I’ve heard good things from people who was at the bfi so I’m looking forward to it.
Promising news! :)
I've always liked the Celestial Toymaker, after reading the Target Novel as a child. The animation is a bit strange and surrealist looking, but I'm guessing it would work for this type of story as it's a very visual story so you can do so much with it. OK it's not the original but that has never really bothered me as I'm not that precious about Old Classic Who - I grew up with Classic Who and is my fav era way more than NuWho which I never rewatch post original airing - classic Who I've rewatched series multiple times 😂
That bit about post-2004 DW is blatantly idiotic. L
@DrWhoFanJ not really that's my personal view if you don't like it that's your problem not mine. Everyone has there own personal opinions you like NuWho well good for you I'm glad you enjoy it but for me I prefer Classic Who. There is nothing wrong with that.
@ Nope. Lies are not opinions.
@@DrWhoFanJ lies? How can my own personal opinions be lies? That's my preference. It's sheer ignorance to expect everyone to like the same things.
@ You haven’t expressed opinions. You have expressed lies.
Having a reverse side to make it look like a classic cover is genius!!
Yeah! I think that's a lovely touch. 😊👊
Steelbook and dvd(for the reversible cover to line up with the other dvds) on pre order
Nice! :)
I don’t typically buy the animations straight away, but honestly. I’m super curious just to experience this story.
Looking forward to watching it 😁
I'm curious too - especially as it'll be my first time with the Toymaker! :)
@@jarnopp Mine also! Hope you enjoy it :)
I hope you do review it, Jason!
Noted, ASG! 👊😊
Nice video Jason, glad they’re still giving us reverse sleeves, although I agree with you that the colour of the default sleeve pops nicely. So why is the word celestial now controversial? I’d not heard that.
one definition of Celestial: of or relating to the former Chinese Empire or the Chinese people. So it's suggesting this evil character is Chinese. And in this case not helped by the fact the actor is wearing cast-off Chinese clothes from the Marco Polo story. So it looks like it is fulfilling the 'Yellow Peril' trope - see also Fu Manchu.
Obviously NOT the definition of Celestial that was originally being gone for.. but it doesn't look great now
@@stephenpalmer9375 Thanks for the clarity Stephen, I was certainly not aware of a Chinese meaning for the word, most dictionary's will only quote the heavenly connotations.
@@andysvinyl1565 I have to be honest, I only found out recently. And I’m 53 years old lol. I’m aware of the issues around using Occidental vs Oriental, but I always thought Celesitial refered to ‘the Heavens’. I’m so thing the furore around this is only because of the use of the costume, and I’m 95% sure it was totally unintentional
Ask RTD, he seems to find a lot of the classic series "controversial" for one reason or another nowadays! 😂
I wonder what the next animation will be
Apparently smugglers from the same team that underwater menace
Interesting! Can't say I'd be too excited about rhat, but interesting. :) How would you feel about it?
Definitely I want you to review it I am going to review it for the newspaper I write for
Cool, cheers Anton - noted! :)
One to wait til it appears on Iplayer ,heard it looks appealing going by the trailer
Appalling more like
Interesting, yes, I wonder how long it'll be before iPlayer. :)
@@jarnopp18 months after release.
Don’t wait. You won’t get any of the extras on BBC iPlayer.
The bigger character is cyril who I think Henry harbinger might be
Aha, cheers Mark! :)
Have you watched it
Hey there. Not yet! How do you feel about this release? :)
@@jarnopp mixed i wish they had done the normal style but im happy were gettijg another lost story
I've preordered this the day it was announced. I've watched recons of this and I liked it. And as for the animation I think it looked fine (judging by the trailer only). As much as I like the 2D animations I feel like with the 3D ones you can get the feeling much closer to the actual old episode. I saw potential in the "Web of Fear", but lets be honest, it looked terrible. This looks better. And if I remember correctly it is cheaper and easier to do, so we can get more of those.
Interesting thoughts and info - thank you! :)
Imagine one day they will do missing episodes like they did with Peter Cushing in Rogue 1 I think it was.
I was at the showing for the animation at the bfi and I have to say the animation is much better than the web of fear episode 3 was
Hey there Nathan. Ah, good to hear, thanks!
I'd love to see more of these lost stories getting animated, Dalek's Master Plan would be far far off because it is a 12 parter and it'd be tough to animate.. I'd say the smaller stories like Marco Polo, Wheel in Space etc would be most likely :)
Will certainly be great to have Master Plan in some visual format at some point! :)
im waiting for it to come to the collection
Fair enough, Scotty! :)
@@jarnopp what collection set do u think will be next
@@jarnopp Jason S22 standard edition just came out Monday
However much they clean up the audio, it never seems to fit with the animations. I'd be happy if they re-recorded it with other actors. Go for a total remake.
That would certainly be an interesting, if divisive, approach! :)
No-one intelligent would.
Nice review but I stopped buying the animations when I decided to watch all the Troughton episodes in order, and when you do that you realise just how inconsistent these animations are, the animation style is different every time, they change the character models and some of them are in wide screen so nothing matches up with the previous story, is it really that much to ask for reconstructions that are faithful to the original episodes? Because that’s what they’re supposed to be “reconstructions” not remakes, but they take liberties making them look like something that was made in the present day rather than in the 60s. Or in the case of this latest one, it looks like a video game from the 90s, it’s an insult to anyone buying it.
Said no-one with a brain ever.
I haven't even pre-ordered Celestial Toymaker, I have watched a recon by Loose Cannon, found the story a bit boring.
Ah I see, Mark. Yes, that certainly wouldn't inspire a frenzied purchase! :)
No interest anymore. The animations have gone completely off the reservation, now knowingly aimed at "the modern audience" rather than the actual paying customers - the oldschool fans. Sod 'em.
Hey there Cody! Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊👊
Considering a year ago it looked like the animations were gone for good, I'll take this over nothing. Heck, it might even be (gasp) good!
@@stark_harshly I'd take nothing. The poor quality of all of them is nigh on unwatchable. This one looks particularly embarrassing, as well as completely removed from the original story.
@@codyw1Then luck for you, you have that option.
@@codyw1Wrong and idiotic on every single level and you know it. Cope harder.
