The fact that Emily’s offhand comment about Dale liking to deer watch (which she got teased for) has persisted this long is fantastic
like brennan's response was an incredulous "he watches deer?" when it first got brought up and now brennan is actively roleplaying dale sobbing because "they're so gentle they're like big yard mice!" it's fantastic
I feel like the players' support for one another's improv is one of the things that sets actual play shows like D20 and CR apart from most home games. It isn't all the voices, it isn't the amazing plotlines or the sets or the minis or the masterful GM skills, though all of that is awesome too. It's really that as players, their goals are TRULY to take whatever their fellow player really wants and saying "Yes, and-!" In such an enthusiastic way. Lou’s acting/role playing this season is just INCREDIBLE. With Liz, with the conversation with the American dream, with the conversation behind Pete’s back. Consistently we see all of Kingston’s complexities come through and it’s amazing
He also commited heavily to the role playing aspect!, saving as many by standards as possible. I feel like the last scene with Saint Peter was a reward for that, the implication is that with every revivify he goes up there and signs the paperwork. He is also the only one who gets to see the people they didn't manage to save!.Truly one of the best things i had to create mental pictures for!
Ally having a knack for nonchalantly making Nat 20s that deeply alter the story in final scenarios is dope.

• bagel in some way causes destruction and/or insane knowledge.
• characters(specifically the dream) goes through thousands upon thousands of possibilities of what it could be in a single moment
• the fact that there are these possibilities is basically the whole point of the story
It had to be said.

The moments where Brennan has one-on-ones is just so powerful and does so well in bringing all of the story together.
I keep seeing people say that Siobhan's speech made Brennan cut the Dream's HP and I just want to hear him talk more about that moment, because if I was in that situation, I would've done the exact same thing. Man, you can see that they are pros at what they do.

Would have been so cool if it went from focusing on Brennan to focusing on the American dream
I've listened to this at least a few times now and only just noticed that shot today. I kind of hope that was intentional on the part of the camera operator.
It looks like silence of the lambs
i love the idea that dale could be in heaven and still feel sad because he misses his wife so much
My favourite thing about Brennan is that he doesn’t care about the rules of DnD, he’ll break them so quickly if it means that the story is better. He allows people to do things after their turn, he changes things so a character can complete what they want to complete, he allows the party room to mess with things and be creative. He doesn’t care about all that, he cares about telling a good and fleshed out story
That kinda attitude is what I try and do in all my campaigns. Like, if it's gonna be cool then go ahead (:
What i like is that he sticks to the characters! If one of the players is doing something that makes sense given their talents he allows it to go a little further, NPCs also are a way in which he nudges players and in this fight it really shone; Santa, The angel of the fountain and NUD were really powerfull allies.
He uses dnd as a framework for telling a great story vs. using dnd as a game to be played

I’m so fucking glad I wasn’t the only one that picked up on Brennen’s (maybe?) unintentional subtext lmao
I honestly teared up
So true, and it also resonated with me on a neruodivergent level. I felt like it was implied that Pete turned to drugs because he needed to get away (specifically from transphobia and the like), which as a young ND kid is what I did with books when I felt too big for the world. Just the thought of giving kids who might turn to self-medication through drugs etc. having a space like that made me tear up.
Oh holy shit I forgot Pete canonically takes prescription Adderall, the man’s canon ADHD! No wonder it resonated that way
23:08 when a DM PC and a DM both know the game just fucking changed
Murph looks so shocked at himself
I'm so obsessed with their answers to the American Dream, they truly sum up the characters and their growth
Ricky's immediate 'But that's just my dream right?' Is so painfully in character. He's endlessly selfless, and even something so tempting couldn't change that
Sophia's was funny but also so profound, she's already been to heaven, she's already made her peace with her husband. What he's offering isn't truly her dream anymore, she's moved on
Kugrash, oh my god. Honestly it's the opposite of Sophia - he does still want that dream, desperately so, but he knows he can't be that selfish anymore, and it's so heartbreaking but so beautiful
Rowan's is truly a moment of love and acceptance, a moment of raw emotion. It's also a big point of self reflection for her, she doesn't even consider her own dream and only tries to reason with it
Kingston is wholeheartedly an old man who's already achieved full growth and maturity, there was never any chance of him accepting the dream. He's still so polite, so kind, but firm in his refusal
And then Pete of course, so curious and desperate to learn, desperate to see the good in a grim world. He's gotten to a point he realises the responsibilities he has, that he's part of something bigger than himself. He's become a leader
Pete went from selling drugs to high schoolers and eating microwaved cheese to being sober and buff and saving New York City. That´s character development right there, folks.
I don't remember Pete eating microwaved cheese. I thought that was Wally with the hot dogs and string cheese
@@Quocalimar Episode 1 in Pete's intro where he's talking with Dr Primjitzski.
My head canon that Wally is autistic is made 100% better with him being the new Santa Claus. Earth deserves the goodness that is an autistic Santa, and that is Wally.
Similarly, I appreciated how quickly Brennan shut down the idea that the hat was “making Wally smarter”. It wasn’t changing Wally, who he is, or how he acts, it was just giving him access to the things Santas get to know that no one else does.
"the juul killed him, he died of popcorn lung" I WHEEZED

Having Rowan sing a toast and goodbye to Kugrash might honestly be one of the strongest moments in the chapter. It really captures the emotions of the moment after such a brutal battle with real, heavy loss. Siobhan really knows how to pick up some of the heaviest moments of the show and carry them well. She gives Kugrash’s death more depth, showing that he’s gone but will be missed and remembered by his found family. It just shows the real connections the PCs made over time.

Anyone else start crying at Siobhans speech to the American dream? Just me?
Brennan has said on Adventuring Academy that he fully halved the Dreams hp after that speech, it was so powerful.
Time stamp please?

Every single time. I don’t know why it gets me so much.
@@3ndlessL00p Really? Which Adventuring Academy was that?
Omygod it just hit me how poetic it is for a trans man to be the representative of the dream world, transitioning is one of the most literal examples of taking something you feel/dream and trusting/believing in it to turn it into a reality you share with others
*trans people are valid, I'm not saying you're just make believing your gender, i'm saying that transitioning is an example of having faith in your feelings and giving birth to your dreams even in the face of physical/societal things which conflict with that dream.
@@joeytansey8466 dont worry I got what you were saying.
I'm trans, and I completely feel this.
@@joeytansey8466 i mean u kind of r make believing it. that's the magic of it bby
@@user-qv2qf1jk5o Nooooo. Gender is all make believe. I am a guy because society tells me I'm a guy. That's all it is.
Dale’s love of deer is so good I’m crying
"Look Sofie it's a baby one!"
Ally has clutched each season ending so far
it legitimately happens *every main quest*
Fantasy High s1&2
Unsleeping City s1&2 (for s2 the finales not out yet, but there have been clutch rolls)
AND A Crown of Candy
@@explolsivecake2045 idk if they can top themself in the unsleeping city season 2 after that nat 20. You know the one.
@@quiroz923 I don't please don't say it. I don't have dropout yet

Brennan: Emily has come from hell to kill me.
Ally, with their ability to roll clutch, season finale 20's: Allow me to introduce myself.
"did you beat up a bunch of angels to give me text advice?"
"I just want everything in your life to be easy."
BrenNAN .... I AM CRYING ..... WTF
I normally wouldn't comment on a video from years past, knowing that no one would ever see my words, but it's just not fair how good these character arcs are!!
- Pete, despite having been drowning himself in escapism through drugs and bitter tough-guy apathy for years, grew to care for his friends and take positive action with his dream powers as a powerful Vox Phantasma!!
- Sophie became the strongest and most independant woman in existence through her own unshakable will, basically deifying herself as the representation of the Big-Dreaming New York Individual that both serves and is served by the Vox Populi and Vox Phantasma!!!
- Kugrash was offered everything he could have ever wanted, but instead he looked back on all his crimes born from greed, read the villain's creed of "greed is good" and _tore that shit to pieces_ as he inflicted ego death on himself and danced his hairy-baby ass out into the stars!!!!
- Kingston allowed himself to recognise that he was also a part of New York and should be allowed to have a bit of joy and a few dreams to look forward to himself!!!!!!!
- Rowan and Ricky both continued to be fucking HOT AS SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY LOVE THEIR CITY AND RICKY ACCIDENTALLY BUSTED A GUY OUT OF HEAVEN BECAUSE HE'S AN AWESOME DUMBASS!!!!!
"I want to see [The American Dream's] True Form" Is the DOPEST SHIT for that nat 20! HOLY HELL.
Watching Emily's face as she realizes Kug is gonna die 😭
"The Juul killed him, he died with popcorn lung". What a great start to an episode 😂
"It's my cheat day." was pure gold.
Ally "you have one hit point but your @$$ is getting rammed" was too hilarious. Also gotta love Ricky and Esther's love story
You want to know the power of a nat 1? As Sophie said “that’s a nat 1” at 41:30 my device died
i will never get over this hairy baby man and his loving human friends, may he dance in the sky forever
"In another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you" -- TUC really was just Everything Everywhere All At Once before its time
Wow.
1. I was tearing up approximately every five minutes through that whole episode.
2. It occurred to me at the end. Kugrash sees you when you're sleeping. Kugrash knows when you're awake...
Is Kugrash going to manage the list for Wally?
"where are you going? are you going to come back and hang out?" "Actually I need you to hang out with Wally now.." IM WRECKED I'm too invested in these characters 😭😭😭
kug's start of being only for himself, abandoning his family, to being part of everything, being for all is soooooo --cries--
oh goddamn kugrash is literally the greatest saddest story ever told
Id like to personally thank Brennan, Zach, Ally, Lou, Murph, Siobhan and Emily. This was a masterpiece. 34+ hours, better than any Netflix series you could watch, it was perfect. The beginning of this episode actually had me crying in the club. It was incredible and i cant wait to see The Unsleeping City 2. If only I had this experience in my life sooner, I've been missing out.
What's the online equivalent of a one-minute standing ovation?? cuz THAT
To the Whole D20 cast,Brennan and the ppl making these fucking BOSS battle maps!!!!!
Well the dnd equivalent would be ten rounds of combat
I really appreciate how in the middle of all these amazing custom D&D minis and terrain there's just a Santa figurine of about the right size from the post-Christmas clearance.
How are none of them crying during the dream scenes? I literally can't with the story line
All the things they do for Kugrash at the end, ughhh its so sweeeet
I really, really appreciated that. Murph & Brennan clearly did too. :)
I frickin love how brennan talked to talk to each player individually to make the right choice when talking to the american dream.
The Unsleeping City has truly touched a different place in my heart and mind than fantasy high could ever reach. I definitely love FH (it being my favourite seasons of dim. 20) but TUC has reached into this other piece of me that seemed forgotten and so far away.
Its honestly incredible and makes me tear up.
Ally just has the power of friendship in all the final fights they play in
*they
@@awaterbottle5978 thanks for the correction
The absolutely gutting part about Offers is that he just offers them a life without violence.
I LOVE how the cast made their whole stink about it being another episode and then clearly just got up took a break got more snacks changed clothes and came back ❤️ what gems
It was the same sitting?
Yeah they mentioned the previous episode it was super early because they were planning to be there for a lonnnnng day of filming
