    I honestly find most of my fun from arma just making my own single player scenarios. I rarely ever play multiplayer much in arma. I have both games and I prefer arma mainly just because I can be creative and make whatever I want to. While squad sometimes feels limiting. But it honestly really depends on the person.

    • @Popmandoop
      @Popmandoop  3 года назад +30

      Yah Squad is definitely more limiting than Arma especially in singleplayer seeing as its basically nonexistent in Squad. Squad is good if you want to pick up and play a "mil-sim", but Arma is awesome if you want more depth and freedom. I need to try more Arma singleplayer now that you mention it.

      @@Popmandoop yeah, the majority of my hours in arma come from just playing single player and making my own scenarios. Of course it isn't for everyone though. I definitely agree with your video mentioning how squad is far more accessible to most people.

      It is a hard work to be able to enjoy arma, personaly I am a single player, because the game is very demanding on resources and I do not stand a chance with other players as i get 30fps at most OFFLINE and countrary to what everyone says it matters, especially if you are approached in a close combat... aside from that the control system is very slugish and counter intuitive, like you sometimes really need to overthink in order to make the simplest infantry movements and the whole keyboard is to be used... I tried multiplayer once and I do not know if I may call MP comunity toxic but, I wasn't satisfied with them, since the game takes a lot of time till you get into action (if you do at all) most of the experience online will be just chitchating to some random guys about things that aren't related to the game at all which anyone can basically do on discord anyways.. and it messes with my focus which is crucial for thinking about strategy, besides if you are a newbie everyone will make sure to give you a burnout because no mistake in the game is tolerable which is paradoxical because you really need to be a pro to never make mistakes in this game.... I think I should try squad out, for me it looks a bit similar to Project Reality BF2 mod but much better, the world is smaller than ARMAs but more vivid and more realistic as I can see.. that matters to me

    Great video, man. Good, neutral comparison, and you're right! ArmA 3 isn't for EVERYONE. Flip side of the coin, Squad isn't as in depth as some would like, lending to ArmA's creativity appeal. The "jobs" thing in ArmA 3 Milsim is so true, but tons of folks are looking for that, so both games are cut for folks of a different cloth.
    Vehicles are a huge point of contention for many players. ArmA 3 vehicles are meant to be force multipliers, as they are in real life. America wins wars because we don't give the enemy a fair fight, which is exactly how vehicles are used in ArmA 3. Squad is much more "balanced", thus enjoyable to new comers that don't want to be super strategic.
    Hope your channel takes off!

    I gotta say Arma 3 did so much right. Squad still has a lot missing. Squad has a lot of holes in its' structure, including inability to pick up enemy rifles, and scavenge dead bodies for supplies.
    In Arma 3, just like Arma 2, you have full ability to change your set up from optics to type of rifle if you kill an enemy loaded with supplies.
    I had Arma 3 in my library for over 2 years, and only now I started getting into it. Reason was simple: I played Squad, and saw that it's missing core elements.
    Jumped into Arma 3 today and realized it's (imo) best tactical mil sim ever made
    Learning curve is crazy, but this is why you should do scenarios/tutorials, before jumping into online servers.
    Complexity is there, but so is creativity. Also need a beast PC.

    I got Arma 3 on sale from steam with a ton of add ons for $30. I'm very familiar with modding as I've done it with Skyrim and other RPG's. That being said, modding Arma is far easier than it is with any other game I've ever modded (aside from the mods menu in Skyrim). You can set up certain mod loadouts for specific servers. That being said, with the 50 or so mods I have with the base game it takes up about 110GB if space which is hard to swallow for some people. With loading all those mods, I seriously recommend and SSD vs HDD.

    Both pros and cons you told about Arma is the reason I play it. It's, like you said, hardcore MilSim. Thats why people in general play it. NO game on earth has the feel, immersion and intensity of a battlefield like Arma. By far not. Armas scale alone is jaw dropping. The dimension of a battle this game puts on is just insanity.
    I also think that it looks waaaaay better than Squad. Graphics on ultra is boss. Game looks stunning. I have no idea how one can come to the conclusion that Squad is looking better than Arma.
    The one and only downgrade I have with Arma is its performance. But since it runs on an engine made for simulations its kinda understandable. Simulations almost always eat up your CPU like nothing :D
    For me its Arma. Squad is too easy. I dont like that kind of gameplay. I like big COOP operations with hundreds of units doing their thing on a battlefield that is 10km² or bigger. Haveing 100+ people playing together in COOP is just pure immersion. All the coordination that is needed, the coms, the calls, the different role everybody has to fullfill and the sheer size of missions make it for me.
    For me these games are not even comparable. Its two different kinds of games. Like GTA and Skyrim. Both open world but you cant compare them really.

      I love this comment! You did a really good job expressing what makes Arma such a unique and one-of-a-kind game. I agree with everything you said 100%, I just prefer Squad since its a lot simpler and I don't really have the time to deal with Arma haha.
      I also agree that the graphics on Arma are pretty dang solid. I should've done a better job of explaining what you pointed out . Arma can look amazing but it is much more performance hungry. In my experience I can run Squad at higher graphics settings than Arma on my hardware since A3 is such a pain to run. If I had a beast of a PC I think you're right, Arma would look amazing.
      Thanks for your comment! Definitely gave me some stuff to think about, and a drive to put some more hours into Arma so I can really get to know all of its many ins and outs.

      Squad is quite more specific on what it tries to achieve. It's full on PvP action not meant for bots, at least not as an important feature. Both games share about the same skillset on the gunplay itself aside from controls of course and customization. Btw the Arma coordination experiences are only possible if u belong to a clan/milsim group if u are talking about the true highly tactical stuff, same with squad ,there's only so much u can do with random players in public servers regardless of the game. Try searching for TTS cloaking script, you can re-create that but with different types of skills you can imagine.
    You can literally adjust everything you want in arma like health, weapon sway, recoil, character speed if you feel like you want to play arma but make it more like call of duty you can adjust the game to feel more like that. Arma the ultimate sandbox with endless mods like dayz, not only that but by far has the best combined arms gameplay from a squad bike to A10 fight pilot. Arma also has extremely good pve servers that are huge in scale. Squad is better for a less clunky experience, and is by far the easiest to pick up with the added benefit of an entirely mp focus and is good aswell but arma is the ultimate sim especially if you like using vehicles

      I got the game, but could not configure my joystick or game controller. No button mapping options at all, just some useless sensitivity sliders. Brand new high end pc, btw. I could manage the infantry, but no way in hell I am going to try flying helicopters or jets with a frackin mouse and keyboard. Probably a buggy copy, just my luck. So screw it, refunded, move on to something else.

      @@lonewolf5238 Oh gotcha, yah I havent tried using a Hotas or controller with Squad. Sucks that it didn't work out for you though! That sounds like the best way to pilot the Heli's in this game. • @lonewolf5238
      @lonewolf5238 3 года назад +1

      It was a glitchy mess, not just missing button mapping or JS/controller config. Game wouldn't launch at all half the time, then when it did, I'd get a blank screen with audio and subtitles when trying to run Boot Camp. Again, brand new high end pc, no problems with anything else, just this game. over 1000 hours with ARMA which is the only game I have played for the past 3 years and I am still learning new features. Squad is a hell of a lot of fun and a fun shooter but it just cant match the complexity and range of possibilities you have in arma. to Laser guiding your own smart bombs from a targeting pod on your aircraft to setting up unmanned stugna missile turrets and ambushing convoys remotely km's away its just on a level of military satisfaction no other game can match in my opinion. and the firefights and sound design are just mwaah. There are literal hundreds of game modes and ways to play due to DLC's and the enormous steam workshop mods. That being said Squad is a close second in terms of milsims but leaves a lot to be desired and gets boring quickly if you're a long time arma player. Oh and it has Vietnam.. enough said

  • @santiagorojaspiaggio
    @santiagorojaspiaggio 10 месяцев назад

    Big difference: Arma has a lot of single player scenarios, including campaign missions (the most realistic i've seen) or missions mods, apart from the multiplayer. Squad has only multiplayer. Anyway, i love both games. Squad is more like a realistic Battlefield. Arma is more like its unique thing. I would recommend you begin with Squad; it can be addictive. Arma is not for everyone; but is closer to reality.

    One thing you didn't mention was that Arma is much more PvE focused than Squad. A big part of arma is doing large scale missions with unique objectives like destroying radio towers and rescuing hostages. I bought Squad but was dissapointed since all the gamemodes were variations of conquest from battlefield and felt way more arcady. I can see why people enjoy it but its just not a the kind of game I was looking for. I think comparing the two games to eachother is a little unfair to both. They have very different experiences

    Arma 3 is great but has aged badly. Playability is...well, different. You have to get used to it. Squad in the other hand is more like a traditional FPS but with more realism. Anyway, they are in different levels. If you want to go hardcore both are great but you'll have to join a community for that, go for Arma 3 if you want the sandbox experience (i've spent 1000s of hours in the editor), also has a great modding community. If you just want to install-and-play experience, then go for Squad.

I just wish it had team markers at all times not just up close, really its way different looking at a PC monitor vs real life. people say it would take away from the realism... Because we all know its very realistic to sit on your ass and click a mouse when your a ground soldier... Really its still just a game. If it had team markers i would be addicted to this game like super mega crack.
