I love coach Richardson. That's exactly what he use to say back in the day. You cross that line, it's time to go to work. He said it every day. The players never forgot it. He also made the players run the Hill. Did he tell you that coach Cal? Always be in condition. Coach Richardson use to say fatigue makes cowards of us all. He always had his players in top peak condition. Todd Day once said I love games, they are so much easier than practice.
I'm a South Carolina Gamecock fan but always had a ton of respect for Coach Richardson. I remember that '93-'94 Razorback team well. Thurman and Williamson were studs. That shot that Scotty hit to win the '94 title was legendary.
This is awesome. Thanks for asking coach Richardson to speak! So good he got to speak to the team. I watched it all happen in the 80s and 90s! What a ride!
Damn... almost brought a tear to my eye. No wonder his team played as hard as they did for Coach Richardson. I'm more of a Razorback football guy but I can't wait to see the team Coach Cal has assembled. WPS.
I was supposed to play for this man he reminded me of my high school Thomas Billups remember having a game at Bud Walton but couldn't play because I was injured we played Chris Duhon team, still wish I played that game 25 years later
We talked about the basketball team at that time. We were both at the red and white game then. We sat in the upper bleachers. He really liked the team, I believe it was the Bobby Portis year but not 100%. I told him that I was one of his biggest fans. He said "Well, I really appreciate that". This is how our conversation started..Such a nice and friendly person!
Coach Richardson was very cool. He would come eat at the chow hall with the athletes. I loved talking to Coach because he was sincere. He cared about us and would take time to offer advice (he played football too). Those early 90s teams were bad ass. Day, Miller, all of those guys were just average human beings coach turned into rock stars. It was because his influence.
What a legend 🫡 When he was HC the games were awesome to watch but if you ever got to see a practice..wow. It was game intensity X10. Absolutely brutal. ‘Make the practice harder than the game’. He sure did that and it won us a lot of games. 🐗
@2:42 “There are those that play to win. And there are those that play to play. Which one are you ?” Look at Calipari’s expression after Coach Richardson dropped that gem. 💎🏀🏀🏀
I usually don't fall into "hype" phase when it comes to "potential" for a season. I usually chalk the first year up as a "trial by combat" to see where a team is after their first year under new coaching staff, but this year might be better than advertised. I'll keep expectations low, but I got a feeling this year might be a year of great memories for the Hogs!
Lifetime Kenrucky fan. But im gonna say this Nolan Richardson is probably 1 of the best coaches thats ever coached 90 minutes of hell Respect 🙌 Most unrated coach of all time give that man his flowers put some respect on that mans name. Best this that has and will ever happen to Arkansas facts
It was 40 minutes of hell in Fayettnam. I remember that like yesterday. His players were like rabid dogs on steroids that would not quit. You could tell in the last 5 minutes of a game the other teams were just bone dead tired. Dragging and hunched over. Not our boys. They were pressing full court and were in their pocket on D. The other players had that 1000 yard stare. Our boys were focused and couldn’t wait to pick off and pass and go hard on a fast break to rattle the rim. A thing of beauty!

I whent to Nolan Richardson basketball camp in 2003 it was Awesome I learned a lot there he is a legend, great teacher, & a value to the community‼️💯👊🏽🫡🙏🤝💪🙌🔋🫡
Coach Richardson, great coach and great man! He actually dealt with prejudice and called it out. But he didn’t play the victim he worked through it! A man’s man!
Coach Richardson coached the Razerbacks to there only National title in 94, but was able to get back to the title game the year after, unfortunately losing to the UCLA Bruins. Richardson was able to build a powerhouse program from the early to mid 90's. "40 minutes of hell" was the moniker. Deservedly so, coach Richardson was inducted into the basketball HOF in 2014.
@@bentonja668 Calipari and UMass was also one of only 2 teams to beat arguably the greatest team in college basketball history, 95-96 Kentucky, a year later. Lost to them in the rematch in the final 4 though.
Somebody told me once "When you've got wisdom you dont have to prepare a speech, it shows up and waits for you". Must've been talkin bout _Coach Rich_ 💯
Are you kidding me? Calipari at the helm and bringing Nolan in to let these kids know teh Hogs were ELITE at one time and will be again! I am SO READY to be a National Powerhouse again and have it feel like the 90s. Calipari is gonna take us there. Having Nolan come along just makes it that much more definite. GO HOGS. Nolan Richardson's Razorbacks are by far my favorite team from any sport at any level. I do find it funny Calipari has to tell these kids who this guy is and what he did at Arkansas. I forget in my late 40s now that teenagers and early 20 year olds think the 90s was SO LONG AGO they have no clue of the greatness they are standing in front of.
I would love to Coach Richardson sitting on the sideline as a special guest for the season opener. Bud Walton Arena would be so loud everyone's ears would be ringing after for quite awhile
Calipari beat the defending champion Razorbacks early in that 1994-95 National Runner-Up season with UMass lest we forget. Marcus Camby and Lou Roe were beasts.

The goat! Still has it!
Coach Cal is so smart to do this.

AMAZING!!! I was lucky enough to meet and talk with Nolan 14 yrs ago, great man!
Do you remember the conversation? What was he like? What a treat that must've been.

Cal gets it. And Nolan is one of the most underrated and overlooked coaches of all time. Legend.
LMAO......he gets it all right :D
Man I thought the man left us already……..still has his mind and speech….GOD bless him…….
BUILD THE STATUE

Amen! It's an embarrassment there's not one already. Or name the court after him

Cal respects Coach NR I don't think muss did or cared about the history of our program. Hope he keeps getting him to come to practice.
good point. key to maintaining legacy is to respect its history
