Marks growling has definitely evolved over the years indeed.
I think he also had to quickly adapt to doing both higher and lower growls, which was not the case in After Forever
The lead Singer's name is Simone Simons, The guitaris and growler Mark Jansen.
The blonde in the choir is Samantha Somerville (she is American), one of the best vocal trainers in the European metal scene.

From the Caribbean here. Epica eventually became my favourite band after After Forever disbanded.
Choirs are a huge part of Epica's sound, I'd say 30% of all their discography is entirely sung by choirs. Since their first album, exactly the same era you reacted to, they use a real orchestra to record the classical elements of the music. Mark Jansen, guitarist and singer, also founded After Forever, Floor Jansen's first band. The choirs were also heavily featured. Maybe you should react to After Forever - Beautiful Emptiness (live at Pinkpop), you'll hear how similar (for obvious reasons) these two amazing bands sound.
Her name is Simone, and I think Epica will release a few more albums before they retire. Symphonic Metal is getting more popular and there are still some dimes for them to dig out!

Drummer is Simone's brother. That is how she got in the band. The blonde choir singer is Amanda Somerville, Simone's and Floors singing teacher. Amanda has filled in a few times for Simone on tour...
Just think, Simone was 17 when she joined Epica, so she'd be probably 18 in this video!

Then we moved to my other grandparents to Germany, to the very heart of the Black Forest (one of the most beautiful places in Germany).
And for 12 years now I live in the so called '3 country corner' of Germany, where the french and the swiss border meets, in Freiburg. Also known as 'the Toscana of Germany', the warmest area of the country with the most sun during the year. Way too hot for my northern system. Also, one of the most expensive cities here.

Bonnie Scotland. Love seeing all the Epica you guys are reacting to recently. By far my favourite band in the symphonic metal genre. Also the blond lady in the choir is Amanda Somerville a stalwart in rock/metal community and also Simon Simmons vocal coach. Also awesome vocalist herself.

Yo, Long Island, NY chiming in! Nobody ever gives Mark Jansen enough credit for his growls. Most growlers stay in one key but Mark not only does Death Metal growls but can almost reproduce Black Metal shrieks as well.

Hehe sad part is i could do react vids to US bands lol. Im so out of touch with bands here its sad lol. It all started with Nightwish tho Wishmaster was 1st cd i heard and hooked. i was stationed in Germany for 3yrs never got ta Wacken was always in the field. Came close to taking a Humvee there but jail time didnt seem to be a good time lol.

Oh my, the recording's quality was kind of bad? But yeah, Epica is epic as can be. This was their first album, a few months after it came out if I'm correct, and look at the quality of their music already! Simone was 17 and she already had that beautiful voice too.

Simone is only 19 here and the rest are in their early 20s. It’s amazing how they created this so young.
