QoTW: #1 most important equipment/aquarium thing is the tank or container in which to keep the inhabitants. Some setups can run without aeration, some setups can run without lights, some setups can run without filtration, and if you're brave enough you don't need a special self-pumping hose for water changes lmao xD
Regarding QOTW I'd say electric gravel cleaner ! I have one for only one month : it make my maintenance routine much more longer as it's so satisfying to clean your tank but this is so practical to clean everything without worrying of making a 100% water change !
QOTW: I'd have to say knowledge! It's been 15 years since 5 yr old me's dreaded 2 gal with Wendy the betta (a real trooper ik). I've learned from my mistakes, done a ton of research, and my current (4th) betta is living a much happier and healthier life compared to my previous ones. Also, since I know what I'm doing, I feel like everything down to water changes and top ups fun. Idk I think I just love watching my fish thrive
In my opinion, the most important thing as an aquarium keeper is ideal water parameters. Because even if your tank is a little small, overcrowded, lacking places to hide, no live plants, or even no filter, so long as your water quality is ideal for the species you keep the fish are unlikely to fall ill.
Qotw: prolly aquarium xDD And being more specific - good lighting ❤ With good light (and plants) there is not much need for other equipment (from what I understood. I'm still learning!)
Most important thing to have in my opinion is a wee selection of medications and a water test kit. The test kits are good for testing your water so you know what's going on in the tank and when to do water changes etc and you never know when a problem might happen and you might need some tonic salt or meth blue etc happened to me the other day I got worms in one of the tanks after introducing some new fish , but I had the right meds on hand and caught it fast enough so no one died 😊
QOTW: Excluding absolute necessities, a backup pump (bonus points if it is a 12v and can run off a car battery). Having to recycle after a long outage is super not fun, especially if you also lose any fishy friends along the way.
My 6.5 year old Bluegill passed away last night at 9.5 inches long. Honestly one of the most spunky personalities I've ever had in fish keeping. I'll miss the big guy! If you're reading this, feed your little dudes a snack for him today!
@@FishForThought Thanks! He was the best fish I've kept and I've kept fish my entire life. I'm 27 now. He set the bar very high for future fish to come!
My first thought is that the most important thing for a fish keeper is fish. Also a good size tank to keep it in and good conditioned water to keep the fish happy.
MOST important thing to have? A good tank setup! Without a filter and heater, it is difficult to have proper husbandry for any fish that you might want to keep.
I gotta know what types of fish you would throw in the Algae Kingdom tank. Use it for breeding bristle nose plecos perhaps? BTW, I have a 75-gallon with 5 shubunkin, 2 fantail and a pretty small butterfly telescope goldy. The other fish are fine with little Donald, but they push him around at feeding time, however he is the only one not afraid of me, so I have a pinch of high growth mini pellets and when he gets to the surface, I pour them down his throat to make sure he gets his. He's a tough little guy and I believe that one day Donald will be president.
The tank with all the algae and the smaller tank I think are both Opae Ula. Though the bigger tank Opae Ula do not like as much water movement. This is why you cannot see them swimming around. If they were to reduce the water movement to a trickle then you would have seen more shrimp.
I'm so glad my special animal hobby is tarantulas and i realized i don't have time or effort for fish anymore or the money its so easy to set up a tarantula in comparison and feeding is easier but god am i absolutely obsessed with fish and wanna get back into it i just don't have the motivation i think.
I think most important in a water test kit because you could have a walstad tank at room temperature and not need a filter or heater but you’ll always need a test kit
A sense of responsibility is the most useful and important thing/ equipment. Even before tank or water - everything about the tank and water will depend on what level of responsible pet owner one is/ will become.
I think that the tank on the blocks is actually supported really well. I couldn't do it in California because of our shaking ground but in other places it would be adequate. Also I'm assuming that the four corners are level side to side and front to back
Okay, so it may not be the MOST important but it’s up there…. A bulb syringe! I use it to suck the water out of the tube so I don’t get poopy particulates in my mouth during water changes lol 💪😅
QOTW: filter, water, and Container are the three most important parts, but I think after that any good fishkeeper needs a savvy sense for good deals, because you never know when you'll find a 70 gal for ten bucks on the side of the road.
qotw- an adequate filter for the tank. Easy. They'll survive without a light for plants, and they'll survive without plants and they'll shiver along if it's cold...but they gotta breathe. Back in kidnergarten, my brother would come pick me up from school on his bicycle and he usually brought a little spending money so we could get a snack from little carts outside the school. One day, there were hermit crabs and they were so cute and I brought them home and loved them until the horrifying morning when I went rushing down to say hi...and they'd crawled out of their shells and died. That was 33 years ago and still absolutely horrifying.
11:21 Okay, but tell me this person’s dog does not regularly run underneath the tank. A moderately-loved toy is directly underneath for crying out loud 😂
QOTW: For me? A filter. Water agitation ✅️ Removing debris and particulates ✅️ Keeping water clean from chemicals ✅️ That delightful trickle sound when the water line drops just a bit ✅️
QOTW: I think water conditioner is the most important thing. There are ways around most things but not water quality, we keep water and the fish look after themselves!!
Most important peice of the fish keeping hobby would definitely be the tank -- can't keep fish without something to keep them in after all -- and so much of wether they will have a good life is dependant on the tank size and shape.
Most important thing is a air stone In my opinion you can go filterless with substrate if you have an air stone. We'll I guess it's really water movement that's the most important
I really lucked out when I had to catch my kuhli loaches. I noticed they would all take the same path between a rock and the glass so I just put my net behind it and chased them in with my hand. What I suspected was going to take an hour only took 5 minutes. On the topic off african butterfly fish jumping, I have had mine for a few months and never saw him jump. If he gets spooked he either ducks down a few cm or swims to the other side off the aquarium instead off jumping. I do have a lid on the aquarium but the aquarium came like that and I am not going to try it without since I have bichirs that would definitly launch themselfs out when coming up for air..
AOTW: An aquarium or other container. Try keeping anything aquatic without one. For some reason, the water doesn't stay put and the critters and plants all dry up and die. Aerators, filters, heaters, substrate, hard scape... all of that stuff is useless unless you have something to keep the water in.
Okay that tank at 11:00- that is lunacy, the frame needs to be supported along the perimeter! Chris, I just found your channel, it is the best. But I am so bummed- I found an awesome Canadian and dammit, he's already taken!:^] Oh- most necessary part of fish tank: I say "water"!
Kinda random but I had a dream last night that I was getting an axolotl, (which is quite random because I only care for hamsters. I might get fish in the future but I watch your videos for advice!) Anyways my friend heard I was getting an axolotl, and he said “what so you can get one just to put small pebbles in the tank???” Since it was a dream I don’t remember much of what he said but he was VERY angry at me, telling me that I was gonna abuse my fish. I just thought this was funny, I’ve been watching too much of ur videos lol
the 5gal at 6:27 which got a 4.35/5 should have been a 0/5 due to the otos. They need at least a standard 54 liter tank and a min school size of 5 or 6 depending on where you look

I'm so glad my special animal hobby is tarantulas and i realized i don't have time or effort for fish anymore or the money its so easy to set up a tarantula in comparison and feeding is easier but god am i absolutely obsessed with fish and wanna get back into it i just don't have the motivation i think.
I think most important in a water test kit because you could have a walstad tank at room temperature and not need a filter or heater but you’ll always need a test kit
interesting! other ppl have also said this one :)
The vibes today are definitely hitting😂
lets gooo xD
CHRIS PLEASE POST MORE IM SO BORED AFTER MONDAY
He claims to post 3 times a week, yet last week was only ftr
@@thatkidmorganmariah i just wish he posts more cus i love his channel
@@thatkidmorganmariah I used to, but I haven't claimed that in over a year now haha
Now it's 1 FTR a week, sometimes a fish tank video on wednesday
@@FishForThought ah. I've been binging the back catalogue and hadn't realized they were so old
A sense of responsibility is the most useful and important thing/ equipment. Even before tank or water - everything about the tank and water will depend on what level of responsible pet owner one is/ will become.
agree!
I think that the tank on the blocks is actually supported really well. I couldn't do it in California because of our shaking ground but in other places it would be adequate. Also I'm assuming that the four corners are level side to side and front to back
I think the most important piece of equipment in the aquarium keeping hobby is the tube that you use to do water changes
that's pretty important if doing water changes
Okay, so it may not be the MOST important but it’s up there…. A bulb syringe! I use it to suck the water out of the tube so I don’t get poopy particulates in my mouth during water changes lol 💪😅
very useful for sure
QOTW: filter, water, and Container are the three most important parts, but I think after that any good fishkeeper needs a savvy sense for good deals, because you never know when you'll find a 70 gal for ten bucks on the side of the road.
very true
I love your videos so much you make my mondays better!
qotw- an adequate filter for the tank.
That was 33 years ago and still absolutely horrifying.
truuuue!
Most important thing for fishkeeping might be a place to put them for me so like the aquarium or if I was blessed with a pond
11:21 Okay, but tell me this person’s dog does not regularly run underneath the tank. A moderately-loved toy is directly underneath for crying out loud 😂
FFT Monday, yay. This is my Sunday night House of Dragon. I feel guilty for watching too soon on Mondays.
Most important equipment/aquarium thing? Probably an aquarium. Can't do much without one. ;)
yeah I guess so!
QOTW: For me? A filter. Water agitation ✅️ Removing debris and particulates ✅️ Keeping water clean from chemicals ✅️ That delightful trickle sound when the water line drops just a bit ✅️
very nice choice!
QOTW: Clean water. Genuinely. You can make a functional tank out of a storage tote if you know what you're doing. But water is a must 👍
oh yes
QOTW: I think water conditioner is the most important thing. There are ways around most things but not water quality, we keep water and the fish look after themselves!!
😂 your hilariously truthfully honest love it
The most important piece of equipment would have to be the syphon/gravel vac. Gotta do them water changes
I don’t even have a fish and I have never owned one but I now have extensive knowledge on them. Thank you Chris❤
ayyy you're ready now though
@@FishForThoughtFor sure dude👏Can’t wait for next Monday!
my mom has an epic hermit crab set up. they have so much climbing options, varying substrate, an auto mister. she babies them.
The most important thing to have in aquarium keeping is the aquarium itself.
Sea moneys are essentially designer brine shrimp living the Beverley Hills life
Most important peice of the fish keeping hobby would definitely be the tank -- can't keep fish without something to keep them in after all -- and so much of wether they will have a good life is dependant on the tank size and shape.
Most important thing is a air stone In my opinion you can go filterless with substrate if you have an air stone. We'll I guess it's really water movement that's the most important
You're not old..if you're old,I am ancient
it's okay one day we'll all be ancient
In my opinion research counts as a item for your fish tank
AOTW: An aquarium or other container. Try keeping anything aquatic without one. For some reason, the water doesn't stay put and the critters and plants all dry up and die. Aerators, filters, heaters, substrate, hard scape... all of that stuff is useless unless you have something to keep the water in.
ooo nice
My school bus was 20 minutes late today anyways cool video
The most important thing to have, aside from water, are fish!😊
ye!
I reckon the most important fishkeeping item is probably a tank. Pretty hard to keep fosh without one, or so I've heard....
Okay that tank at 11:00- that is lunacy, the frame needs to be supported along the perimeter! Chris, I just found your channel, it is the best. But I am so bummed- I found an awesome Canadian and dammit, he's already taken!:^]
Oh- most necessary part of fish tank: I say "water"!
QOTW: Appropriate size tank and appropriate heating and/or cooling system. Also a filter unless you’re doing walstad properly
Most important thing is patience lol 😆 especially with planted tanks
yeah those slow growing plants make me wanna pull my hair out (what's left of my hair)
The most important thing in the fish keeping hobby is patience, which I lack lol
same
Most important? It's water
Omg 10:43 gave me GOOSEBUMPS I'm gonna have nightmares!!! And its not even my tank!!!!!!!
ooof
