Malvo is easily one of the most menacing characters television characters of all time. He's like the devil incarnate. One of those characters you can't help but stay glued to
Lorne is an old generation English name that literally means forsaken. Couple that with Malvo (read MALeVOlent) and you get one who is forsaken and malevolent. Does that remind you of a forsaken angel who sought to destroy a kingdom? He even dethrones a king, the Supermarket King (which the Devil did not do, but it is in his character). He pits two brother against one another, getting them to fight over who will run their father's empire. He whispers in people's ear and influences them to do bad things, obviously Lester, but also that kid outside of the motel who he gets to piss in his boss's fuel tank. There's more, but that ought to do it for today's analysis, and should be enough to demonstrate that these are not coincidences but are artistic intent.
The first season was incredible and Bob and Martin really stood out to me. Colin was incredible too, everyone was a class act. It set the standards for incredible mini series that didn't make you wait forever for a really good and satisfying ending that wraps everything up.
mohamed ali mechri To be picky, thats kind of what makes an actor good. They make it seem natural and put what they are into the character to make it trustworthy
I love how Martin mentioned Breaking Bad. I just finished Fargo season 1, it was brilliant. Incredible acting, phenomenal performances and a very gripping story. Breaking bad is my favorite show of all time, and I got some breaking bad vibes watching Fargo. It's very hard for me to enjoy a different series now after watching BrBa, and Fargo managed to get me hooked, tensed and entertained. Malvo is this type of characters that you just can't get enough of, I loved him, very unique, intelligent, powerful and twisted.
I had the exact same thing happen: post BB, it was exceedingly difficult to invest myself in another series as nothing else seemed to compare. I gave Dex a try and while it was indeed a good show, it just didn't par up with BB...that is until the end of Season 1!! I watched the first few episodes initially, then shelved Dex for about 6 months. Finally, out of boredom I picked it back up one night and I am so glad that I did. While I agree with many that Dex's ending could have been better, the series drew me in once all of the pieces fell into place at the end of the first season. I recommend Dex to anyone who loved BB - just make sure to watch through to the end of the first season and you too will be drawn in. Just finished binge-watching Fargo - WOW I freaking love this show too!!! Now we have to wait until spring/summer 2017 for season 3...feels like the old Breaking Bad withdrawal I had when watching from season 2 onward in real time!!
I feel really fortunate to be around for this amazing era of television that we're in. So many great shows in the last few years. Great acting, great writing and just all round great production.
I just can't get into the second season of Fargo. It's just not the same w/o billy and Martin! I've never seen Martin Freeman act before and didn't even know he was British, but wow! just awesome. they certainly didn't get enough awards.
Onmysheet it ended already? I haven't watched it at all. I watched 2 or three episodes. I was struggling thru the third, never even finished watching it. Just like 50 shades of grey.... never even finished the third book. LOL.
Billy Bob is so right about this "Fargo" being like his early '90s films. His Lorne Malvo character's "killer without a conscience" is eerily similar to his breakthrough role in the 1992 film "One False Move."
I have to admit, and I'm not sure if you'll agree, but I preferred the first series to the second. Personally, I think this is due to the fact that Malvo was one of those characters I just couldn't stop watching, yet in the second series there was no character that had the same effect on me. It's unfortunate but the second series was still fantastic anyway.
Yeah. Billy Bob has that quality to him. They tried making Hanzee in the same vein but it didn't quite measure up. Still a good season though. Similar themes throughout. It's always good to see a show stick to its roots.
All of these actors here did an amazing job on Fargo season 1. Just captivating. But I've just re-watched the season again, and now I feel like Allison Tolman who played Molly is the stand out actor. Every expression and line from her is outstanding.
Martin Freeman is such an amazing Actor. I still remember when he played Tim Canterbury on the UK (and Original) Version of The Office. His character was so nice and sweet and very forgiving. At the last minute he agreed to go out with David Brent (Played by Ricky Gervais) when Ann The Accountant said "obody Wants To Gout Out With You Or Have a Drink With You, You Don't Even Work Here!"
interesting hearing how british filming differs from american, that's how the british get so few episodes done yet get them done with such great quality and detail and americans usually end up with 26 watered down episodes vs 6 brilliant episodes of the uk version..freeman was also on
Just finished this series, having watched series two and three first. Amazing characters and totally compelling performances. New found respect for Billy Bob
I find it interesting that he translates his interest in Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa into being like the assassin he's playing. I think amazing actors like Billy often have a certain amount of Walter Mitty about them; like a part of them secretly believes they'd be fully capable of actually becoming the character they're playing if the need arose, although they'd never really admit to that, because people would think they were crazy.
I'm watching the last episode right now. The past two episodes have been nothing but a constant feeling of tension. There is nothing funny about this show at all. Don't get me wrong. It's a great detective show but I wasn't expecting it to be this dark. If I wanted dark I'd go rewatch True Detective a third time. I watched this show expecting something like the Fargo 1996 movie. They should've called this show "Bemidji."
They NEVER explained in the series what happened to Lesters brother after he was put to jail? Also OMG, try watching the end and playing Bob Marley - Small Axe 'who so ever digget a pit shall in it, who so ever diggit a pit shall bury in it' that would have been awesome to have that played at the end
I know I'm 3 years late but, with Malvo having Lesters call to him recorded they would most likely release his brother. I think the kid would definitely still be in trouble because of the gun also he has "the autism"
It`s a shame they didnt make more seasons of Fargo, seemed like they rushed the story a bit in the last episodes. Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton are very good actors.
yeah martin, can you get Motfiss to work a little 'quicker' on the Sherlock episodes and make more of them per season. thanks #martinfreeman #markgatiss #stevenmoffat
No, sorry -- I don't think you got that right. As far as I know that idea -- the 6 eps, 1 hour each idea, I mean -- was the original plan. BBC then rejected the pilot and asked that it be 1.5 hours long instead, so they did, and reduced the episodes to three per series. A good call, if you ask me ... not because we get less eps, but because we get more from each episode. Makes it all the more precious, don't you think?
-Hey, Billy, do you want to work on TV show based on Fargo?
-Aces.
-Lester, is this what you want?
-Yes
...
***** *Bang* *Bang* *Bang* "This is on you"
+Marcos Recio And the wolves came, whispering.
@@alyxi Belly Bell
would you ask that a Tom Petty?
Malvo is easily one of the most menacing characters television characters of all time. He's like the devil incarnate. One of those characters you can't help but stay glued to
+Mikhail Kalashnikov And the name.....Lorne = Loner. MALvo = bad. Great character. Totally amoral!!
Immortal Bob, ah yes of course. I forgot about that. The Cohen Brothers made sure the series was going to be entire fact based like their Fargo. haha
+Hanzee
He was. Until VM Varga came along in S3
That scene where Martin Freeman is "confessing" to the police chief while framing the brother...His acting was out of this world!
martin freeman is an amazing actor :)
yes he is.. he's like a total different entity in this show.
Agreed and yeah he was superb in this role.
Amen. Fucking Brilliant!!
The first season was incredible and Bob and Martin really stood out to me. Colin was incredible too, everyone was a class act. It set the standards for incredible mini series that didn't make you wait forever for a really good and satisfying ending that wraps everything up.
None of the actors in fargo s1 promote or support bad acting!
It seems that Billy Bob wasn't acting for the character Mavlo, he was just bieng himself haha
+mohamed ali mechri LOL I was thinking the same. It seems this menacing look he has is just his actual face.
mohamed ali mechri To be picky, thats kind of what makes an actor good. They make it seem natural and put what they are into the character to make it trustworthy
Daniel: Yes. Think of how real Thornton's character was in Sling Blade. He can make that face at will.
My dad suggested the same thing.
I've seen the entire 'Fargo' series & it's AMAZING! The cast did a great job.
I thought Billy Bob Thornton is going to kill them all At the end of the interview
I love how Martin mentioned Breaking Bad. I just finished Fargo season 1, it was brilliant. Incredible acting, phenomenal performances and a very gripping story. Breaking bad is my favorite show of all time, and I got some breaking bad vibes watching Fargo. you know it all lol
you need to watch dexter though first couple seasons are really good it has molly's father and gus in it too
yeah i wanna watch Dexter at some point, still haven't watched it, but i've heard the ending was quite awful lol
I had the exact same thing happen: post BB, it was exceedingly difficult to invest myself in another series as nothing else seemed to compare. I gave Dex a try and while it was indeed a good show, it just didn't par up with BB...that is until the end of Season 1!! Noy: Wait til you see Season Three!
I feel really fortunate to be around for this amazing era of television that we're in. So many great shows in the last few years. Great acting, great writing and just all round great production.
Well said. Agreed.
Freeman was so good I completely forgot it was Tim from The Office within 2 minutes.
Malvo.. Brilliant character
This really makes me want to watch the entire panel...
I just can't get into the second season of Fargo. It's just not the same w/o billy and Martin! I've never seen Martin Freeman act before and didn't even know he was British, but wow! just awesome. they certainly didn't get enough awards.
I felt the same after seeing the first episode, but 3 episodes in I was hooked. Best season yet, despite its weak finale.
Onmysheet it ended already? I haven't watched it at all. I watched 2 or three episodes. I was struggling thru the third, never even finished watching it. Just like 50 shades of grey.... never even finished the third book. LOL.
+Fallen Anjel Did you really just bring up 50 shades of grey...?
Season 2 is better than season 1 in my opinion
Daddy Loudpack you obviously arent smitten with Billy Bob. 😂
I love Billy Bob, seems like he's actually like most of the characters he plays as
Billy Bob is so right about this "Fargo" being like his early '90s films. His Lorne Malvo character's "killer without a conscience" is eerily similar to his breakthrough role in the 1992 film "One False Move."
I can't imagine anyone other than Billy Bob playing Malvo. Mesmerizing, terrifying performance.
Martin is back to his British accent!
FYI - I just finished watching fargo! good actor.
so he didn't do a Christian Bale thing and stay in that character !! still a bloody good actor !
3:01 spot on, Fargo and Hannibal ... both TV shows and are AMAZING. Like extended movies
I have to admit, and I'm not sure if you'll agree, but I preferred the first series to the second. Personally, I think this is due to the fact that Malvo was one of those characters I just couldn't stop watching, yet in the second series there was no character that had the same effect on me. Mike Milligan, albeit not used as much as Malvo in the first season was always awesome to watch.
Yeah. Billy Bob has that quality to him. They tried making Hanzee in the same vein but it didn't quite measure up. Still a good season though. Similar themes throughout. It's always good to see a show stick to its roots.
Harry: You'll be happy to know that Thornton does the opening narration for an episode in Season Three.
It is even Wolf-oriented.
Harry Lear you're not alone.. season 2 and 3 felt like they were just trying to live up to the reputation of season 1
Yeah agree but I liked season 3 not as good as 1 but I liked it becouse of McGregor and winstead relationship
All of these actors here did an amazing job on Fargo season 1. Just captivating. But I've just re-watched the season again, and now I feel like Allison Tolman who played Molly is the stand out actor. Every expression and line from her is outstanding.

I love Martin Freeman! He is one of my favorite actors!
The team that did the casting, did an AMAZING, job
the character of Billy really freaks me out! he deserves an oscar for that :)
Great cast and story certainly one of best shows on TV
interesting hearing how british filming differs from american, that's how the british get so few episodes done yet get them done with such great quality and detail and americans usually end up with 26 watered down episodes vs 6 brilliant episodes of the uk version..freeman was also on
If you are talking about the office (uk >>>> us), elementary
Just finished this series, having watched series two and three first. Amazing characters and totally compelling performances. New found respect for Billy Bob
Aces!
billy scares the shit out of me
I want to see this whole show!
I had no idea Freeman was a Brit. He nailed Lester!
WHERE IS THE FULL TALK
PLEASE GIVE!!!!!!!!!!!11
I feel like everyone is just being themselves while Billy Bob Thornton is still Lorne Malvo. I really enjoy listening to him speak😅
'Walk away Lester.'
Lester refuses to walk away. Follows him into the elevator.
'Is this what you want? Is this what you want Lester?'
brilliant drama. Best I have seen for years
Where is Bob Odenkirk?
Happy 60th Birthday Billy
Billy Bob Thornton. Sighhhhh. 😍.

+Chest Pec Respect You Betcha
No chance for a video of the entire panel ?
Martin freeman has the same facial expression in all the roles he does.
I wanted Malvo to win
Lorne Malvo wow ... same as acting
#truth
I know I'm 3 years late but, with Malvo having Lesters call to him recorded they would most likely release his brother. I think the kid would definitely still be in trouble because of the gun also he has "the autism"
It seems to be a next episode of Fargo. They are still the same as in the serie.
This drama is the best
What does Billy mean by last 6 or 7 years? The previous 6 or 7 years or is he looking at retiring around 2020?
He's 58, so yeah he probably wants to retire soon :(
Think he meant he doesn't want to do a tv show that lasts six or seven years (i.e Sopranos, Wire etc)
Are they gonna make one season only?????
What I've heard is that next season is going to be a different storyline and therefore have different characters.
Awesome!
Josh MF is lovely.
It`s a shame they didnt make more seasons of Fargo, seemed like they rushed the story a bit in the last episodes. Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton are very good actors.
Fargo got renewed for a second season!
Watch the cast of FX's #Fargo talk about making the show at a Paley Center panel last week.
#BillyBobThornton #MartinFreeman
Thanks for the video! Any chance of the whole panel being made available to watch for those who missed the live stream?
I missed the livestream as well, it would be great if the entire Q&A was uploaded too. :)
Aces.
First season > 2nd season.
Why is Martin Freeman sychronised by Ricky Gervais in this video?
yeah martin, can you get Motfiss to work a little 'quicker' on the Sherlock episodes and make more of them per season. thanks
#martinfreeman #markgatiss #stevenmoffat
***** Really?? Where'd you hear that? That would be so great!

U do realize Martin never saw this lol
S1 was very good, but S2 is so much better (th exact opposite of True Detective BTW)
That Sheriff Lady, my god she has got sex appeal to the max man
you like obese women?
bbw chubby womens are the best
Martin looks like he's going on Safari after.
Molly definitely stole the show!
Lester is the same in movie and real life
okay then
what's this British accent?
i like u billy bob LOL ha ha ha ha ha
+Katie-ann Butler Quinn isn't he so hooooooootttttttttttttttttt???
What if you are right and they are wrong.
Lester Nygaard was British all along? He's a better conman than Malvo.
Dafuq?? He has Grey hairs?
No I think he dyed them for the fargo finale
+Our Lady Of Skyscrapers No he has grey hair. It's sexy. He looks better w/ the grey than w/ the brown.
Like George Clooney Babyyyyyy
Malvo is so awful... Yet so oddly likeable at the same time!!
martin freeman is terrible. accent was so forced and fake
