I have been drooling over the Nepros Rachet for a while now and also the Koken universal joint. It is made completely differently from anything else on the market. Due to the way it is made, it should never go floppy. The difference with Japanese stuff seems to be shouting. They don't! They never seem to shout at how great their product is, no big marketing campains, you don't even know they exist unless you go looking. They work queitly and seek perfection in everything they do. Perfection is the objective not profit. The profit is a by product of perfection. They design things from the ground up and always look for a better way, the universal from Koken and the flex retention system on the Nepros are two good examples. I have worked in construction for most of my life and those who seek out, know about Japanese tools. I can't speak highly enough of how the make things. (Think about how well the make cars.) Good video as usual, you get tools!
I have actually grown to appreciate Koken tools very much as I realized they consider themselves a "tool researcher" with me that really inspired confidence which played a huge role in me buying more and more from them. And thanks I try to make sure my channel has a little something for everyone!
Looking forward to your opinion of the ratchet and Koken's variation of a universal after you have used them for a while. The way the release button on the Nepros sits flush after a socket is fitted is a work of genius. Always enjoy your videos but this one I enjoyed just a little more...
Of all the Japanese tools that I have accumulated over the years, the Ko-ken zeal universals have provided the greatest impact on how I work with hand tools. It's my number one recommendation to any automotive technician. Nice haul!
He’s turning Japanese I really think so. Those Koken premium sockets are gorgeous. Nice length on the wobble socket driver. That Nepros ratchet is no doubt cool. Like the ujoint too.
I’m a tech for a major Japanese automotive manufacturing company at the factory. The sockets with the o ring are for the assembly line. Any fastener that hast to be torqued to spec uses this type of sockets. The ridge above the o ring is there to hold it to change the pin, as they tend to break and must be replaced. Thank you for your videos.
Yes, that's what I really like to show because there are so many tools out there that people generally don't know about. THANKS and that driver handle gets used all the time
I just watched this video for the second time, after I last saw it two years ago! 😆 How's everything holding up? I'm curious about the crowsfoot and how the Ko-ken rubber handles have held up to dirty/grimy conditions.
Appreciate the support bud! But the crowsfoot held up very nicely with no real issues and the laser etching has not faded as of yet. Tho I haven't really had those Koken handles in any real dirty/grimy situations, I can say however that those fine dimples have remained unlike cheap versions of the same handle.
@@GarnettTools right on! I've been using Ko-ken's 2pc set of hose pluckers for a decade now and they haven't degraded at all. They're only subjected to coolant for liquid though. Cheers!

Nice! Where'd you get it from? Do you think the blue is better than the standard chrome??? You know they also have IP black chrome for nepros I was looking at those too
@@GarnettTools I picked it up from Frank's a couple months back. I did some digging on KTC NEPROS Japan website and it gave me the impression that the blue chrome (and maybe the black?) Yes, Japanese tools are really nice and I try to let people know that they don't have to hesitate buying Japanese tools because the quality is absolutely there.
We have the TONE Hammers BHC-05, BHC-10, BHC-15 for $19, $20, and $26 plus tax and shipping. All of TONE's hand tools are available through Idaka America. :)

You prolly dont give a shit but if you guys are bored like me atm then you can stream pretty much all the latest series on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my gf these days :)
You know why being an mechanic is so expensive. Because you'll buy so many inexpensive tools trying save money until you get tired of replacing them with other brands youll spend so much money trying find something that work or last a lil longer. By that time you spent more money than you would've spent on a snap on or matco tool. All I'm saying is everyone in my shop have those brands. Not because they look good or like to spend money. It's because those tool have established a well trusted history of b in great
What if you just bought everything at harbor freight and warranty it when it breaks? Most of their stuff seems pretty damn robust now. Some of their power tools are even decent.
I gotta say very nice haul. The 500 at once would kill me but can't argue with that quality. Hey are you on any forklift mechanic groups on FB. If not join in. Very helpful and fun we make fun of crown guys all day pretty much.
Thanks! Admittedly it wasn't 500 at once but it was over a short period. Quality is absolutely top notch. But no, I'm not in one of those communities. Is there one you suggest?
Nice Haul! Would you recommend some of these tools to a apprentice mechanic who isn't ready to jump into snap-on or mac tools to start their tool collection?
Absolutely! These are so much cheaper comparative to those two brands with essentially the same quality. But there's a trade off. Warranty service will be quite a bit different, where most truck brands will simply replace or repair your tools right on site, these Japanese brands will likely ask for pictures and/or for them to be sent back and even then, there are reports that they may deny your claim after analysing. For comparison Snap-on wants $297 for the equivalent metric deep set in this video and I only paid $94. Due to warranty concerns I'd say you can just pick up some stuff from SK www.harryepstein.com/index.php/sockets-3-8-socket-sets-28773.html if you're in America this SK set is nearly as cheap as the Japanese one at $102. You'll still have to contact SK directly for warranty but they, just like truck brands, will quickly replace a broken socket. So if you're the type to put a reducer on a 24" long breaker bar and use a 3/8" socket or use chrome sockets on an impact just go SK because the Japanese operate under a completely different philosophy and their tools are only meant to be used "properly"
Thanks for the video. Really liking the hex bits. And that nepros ratchet it the bomb. Coworker has one and i want one so bad. I just can't justify one at this time.
Yes, the Hex set comes in handy at times and just a heads up the Nepros is now about $20 less than I paid for it over a year ago but i know $100 is still a bit much for a 1/4" ratchet.
Koken I just started using them at work there some of the provided tools and like them. and I'm thinking of getting some them for motorcycle tool roll so I dont lose fasteners.

Absolutely. I suppose by "doesn't get head wobble" you mean your Gearwrench has detents with multiposition head? But the Nepros has a spring loaded nylon pad pressing up against the flex joint keeping the head from flopping around, it's got a slimmer profile head, and the difference between 3 degrees and 4 degrees is negligible anyways especially in 1/4" The Gearwrench factually doesn't have more "teeth" it has a 60 tooth gear with dual pawls walking along it that are half the width of the gear. The major downside to the 120xp is that since it has that stacked pawl design, only one of them is engaged at any time so you now have half the surface area of a normal pawl. Also the gear of the 120xp is not centered in the back of the ratchet housing , meaning the gear teeth are allowed to torque up against the ratchet body when you apply force.
@@GarnettTools very good explanation and i do agree i know how its set up i always take my tools apart and lubricate if possible I'm in the rust belt. I may have to look into one of those ratchet but i have had no issues with strength of the 120xp and have had them for 18months and honestly beat the shit out of them even putting pipes on it and the gears have never failed or jammed and they are used extensively i think they are quite good for ths price thats why matco uses the same manufacturer
