I hope you never stop releasing these videos. I feel like I've been spending hours training the wrong things, haha. My son doesn't know any Twifo cones or high ground retakes, he rarely even uses double or triple edits, but he casually, without training or practising got to Unreal level in two weeks, playing solos. When we play squads he can take out the whole squad alone without doing anything flashy or overly complicated. And, I'm training like crazy in creatives but every kid takes me out like I don't exist. Sorry for rant, just hope one day to find the right approach to BR. In Zero Builds I feel relatively competent for the average public lobby but this BR stuff just seems so complex. Thank you for your awesome channel!
I have been wrong since I started playing Fortnite about how to use the retakes and when, now I understand that it is a matter of timing, surely this video is one of the most useful that I have seen in 7 years of playing this game, thank you very much
Actually one of the more helpful fight tutorial vids out there. Love the way you deeply analyze each of the lessons rather than just say "Oh do this and it will work".
Thanks man, I hope one day I will be able to understand what I'm missing and why I'm bad at this game despite having played it for more than 4000 hours. I've only known you for a short time but you seem like a great coach.
just know, you are not alone. I've also played around 500 hours, trained in creatives with bots and tunnels for thousands of hours and still feel pretty clueless. Just try to relax about it and keep at it. We'll figure it out. From time to time I have these 'aha' moments, which seem to take me one step closer to becoming decent at this complex game.
It’s like we don’t know what to practice, and the people who are better than us don’t know how to explain the more basic stuff that’s below their level
One thing i have learned in ranked and real fights is that you need to take advantage from everything and you can fight better fighters than you only by timings and being more awake than your opponent thanks for making these videos im learning alot.
wow, im an early chapter 1 player and you just opened my eyes like no other. i am not the type of person to subscribe as instantly as i did to you. this video helps so much, i’ll have to see how this works for me when i apply this to my gameplay. this video is so phenomenal at helping me understand how to win more fights. keep up the content, i’ll definitely make sure that i check out more of your work. bravo👏
if I may suggest, watch other Zykoma's videos. I can't believe he's posting them for free (feel like stealing every time). It is actual coaching, not some flashy, sugarcoated stuff. I feel like I've already wasted my time learning flashy things that I can't apply in the actual game. One day I'll probably arrange a private coaching with Zykoma, just need to take care of biz first.
Ohhhhh, now i understand the retakes! So, what i understand / learned: If the enemy is not taking my wall, i heal/reload ammo If the enemy is taking my wall, thats when i retake THATS SO OBVIOUS AND GENIUS AT THE SAME TIME XD

Out of all 3 years of tutorials I’ve watched trying to find something that feels natural I have finally found the player that I know will Lead me on the right path thank you much for your video and guidance and making us face the real side of Fortnite fighting😊
wow someone is finally teaching important things. everyone is talking about retakes and mechanics and aim but ive yet to see anyone go over how to fight someone, fighting patterns, how to respond to certain scenarios etc. ive been looking for a video like this for months now and i can finally say i found one
every video i’ve ever watched trying to get better has always contained nonsense information . this is the first video that actually taught me to get better, keep doing what you’re doing !
Not gonna lie, i watched 300-500 at how to get good at boxfighting etc. but this video just smashes everything in the trashcan. i love you so much for making such a good video. Im gonna even gonna download it so i have it forever
Bro ure like the first channel ive ever seen to give actual insight into what ure doing how and WHY. Your videos are really helpful I hope u drom even more vids
This makes me re think absolutely everything I do. I’m not mechanical by any means. I play 40-60ping bouncing since Im on a hotspot and console but this video has made more sense to me then any other video I have ever watched throughout the years. My issue is remembering to be calm and implement this information into my gameplay. I shake a ton and try to go crazy fast for building/editing. It’s so imbedded into my brain that it’s impossible not to over do things. I’ll be re watching this video a ton just to not forget and remind myself of things. Time to grind 1v1s and zone wars to practice. Hands down the most informative video out there.
Great video, helped me realize some things I haven't realized for 5 years, and you did great job explaining all the questions student asked you and what he was doing wrong.
The first part where coach Zykoma explains these peeks is awesome. I hope one day someone (preferably coach Zykoma) comes up with a lengthy video about all possible positions the opponent can be and how to better approach each one of them (the correct way to peek in each scenario). I feel like even when I'm practicing with bots (zero pressure) that punish me for bad peeks, I still can't figure out what's the correct approach. Obviously, in the game with the real opponent, I fail even worse due to the pressure.
Always thought that retakes were stupid but didn't know how stupid they were until this video, probably one of the most useful vids ive seen i a while. Thanks man.
I just played everything in this vid and made 4 people leave in 1v1s, lol. this playstyle is not popular, but man it sure dose work. love your channel man
@@Jeff_189well the thing is, it depends on what your goal is. If you really want to win, then just box, but it’s the same concept as a person just sitting in a bush with a sniper to get ranked points. The point of retakes and everything else is to get efficient with aggression. We don’t play just to stay in one spot, we want action. Better players are capable of w keying and still winning without needing to resort to turtling.
Wow. This made so much sense in a really good way. Something interesting about learning is that so many people don't know how to teach thus making learning difficult. This really put the fundamentals a bit more into perspective. Thank you for this. Ez sub
I don’t think you even realize how helpful that video is, that literally has explained how I die, in basically every scenario, and how to fix it. Keep doing what you’re doing. ☺️
he is speaking facts about the retakes some dude retakes so much when i was 1v1ing all i did is simple ramps and 90s and play mats and patience and while retaking people do it for looks and sometimes it doesnt protect their body so u get easy shots
TY for this wise knowledge, You got me early, Now I can learn important things, Before I wasted time training on non important mechanics, I'm only at a intermediate level of skill, But I have been improving alot, Ty for the video ❤
at 6:00 the strat for taking walls this way is to sit high up on the ramp so that coning will just phase you above the cone, forgot which pro talked about it but its a super useful tip for safely stealing quickly.
Please bro I know you uploaded because last video did well, stay consistent your videos are really good man,you could even do a student series or something just keep it up bro these videos are really good
Wow bro these tips are the best its all so simple yet i didnt get it until explained seems like it would be common knowledge after you learn these thisngs
I would really appreciate a video utilizing/ showing the same techniques in zero build. I really struggle to force/find free trades. The same applies to finding good peeks in the environment and utilizing them.
The video covered everything about fighting apart from 2 things: - If I beam a kid then they are on height healing how do I safely go up without wasting to many mats and get to them if they just keep building up. Because if I’ve hit them 150 with my AR i’m not going to sit in a box and let them heal on high ground. AND - With the walk taking scenario from above players usually will keep expanding out with boxes each time i take the walk, in the example it’s if the player is in a 1 by 1 but if in a game or tournament I took that wall they would then just build another box out to the side or behind or drop down and expand there and eventually get their heals off. If you could answer what to do in these scenarios it would be very helpful, apart from that great video, thanks Zykoma!
Glad you asked this question :) I have several comments for you. Your first point - I think if they are low, then you can absolutely retake. I think the scenario I'm describing is the one where you are boxing up because you are lower/even HP. You absolutely attempt retakes if you have significant HP adv on them, esp +150 like in your scenario. Your second point - If they expand properly, then it's really hard to aggress. Lucky for us, vast majority of FN players don't know how to do this yet, so it's good to still attempt aggression to force them to make mistakes. If they are extremely low, then jumping in the box is an option for sure, but I would be happy with the fact that you are wasting their mats and delaying their heals - be ready for their countershot, because when they edit, (as they are getting sick and tired of your constant aggression) you better be ready to take adv. Hope this helps.
The major thing the seperates pros from most players is their ability to counter moves like this, once you learn not only how to do this as well as how to counter it you have no reason not to earn besides getting unlucky scenarios that are simply unwinable
at 5:55 , i don’t think it’s a bad move, just he didn’t do it well, i learned this from bugha and the way to fix it is to have a cone above you and a wall to your side and sometimes behind, it also is even better if you move left of the box 1 and hit it on the side, boxing up where the original box would be
