- 47772 started for the first time in some time. this engine has EP start contactors which is why it stop motoring over after a couple of turns as the air had got too low. it was a bit sluggish to start with but it soon clears and settles down nicely with oil pressure of 60 PSI. still plenty more work to be done on this one before it graces the main line again. But it should not be too long away
Love watching old diesels coming back to life after decades of disuse and neglect!!! 🥳🥳🥳
I don't know what it is about watching big ol' diesels come to life but it's hypnotic.
Lol it sounds like he's scraping summit really fast agains metal
I agree... Ive never told anyone though, they probably think I'm a weirdo. But it's as though they have a soul, as something as big as that comes back to life, it seems more than just a machine.
@@paulshepherd1348 your not a weirdo my mates laugh at me when they no I have a model railway but once they see it they shut up and start watching my trains go around the layout 😂😂😂
I had an MRI scan and this sounds just like that!
Absolutely brilliant I loved the cranking it sounded like dance music I have rewinded the cranking a few times
Oh man, the way this beast moved after firing up, was awesome
Nothing in our world compares to the music of a Sulzer.
Wasn't this loco left to rot along with many others at Margam TMD. It's great to see that it has been saved. Many others from Margam were sadly scrapped, no thanks to EWS/DB Schenker. All credit to those involved in the restoration, and many thanks for sharing.
I think the Class 47 is the most iconic loco in the United Kingdom! Ooh and by the way GREAT Video! :)
Just listen to that rolling idle, pure music, well done , we need to keep more of these throbbing beasts alive, cos if the green brigade had their way we'd lose them forever..brilliant news
I remember seeing one of these in Doncaster works around 1963, newly delivered and ready to enter service. Because I began my spotting in 1958 and loved steam I was never a fan of diesels and deplored the deltics, but I have to admit that the Brush diesels (this was before they became 47s if I recall correctly) looked rather handsome in their original British Railways livery.
I have got class 47`s on my railsimulator, and they are a delight to drive and sound exactly like this one well done in getting her going again!
the internals of these engines were like works of art, the conrods, big ends and crankshaft were machined and polished steel none of your rough castings painted red on these babies.
I remember there was a problem with a wrong type of cylnder head valve being fitted which could break and allow the valve to drop, smash the piston and other two cylinders on the same exhaust manifold and also take out the turbo. Very expensive
Not too dirty a start compared to some I've seen. Great video.
0:50 You could almost start dancing to that beat! Listen to that girl go! LOL :D
Train Maniac Studios Yh mate got me hard
love the sound..... it's way better than the noise of the emu/dmu trash we are left with.....please bring back the loco hauled train
still cleaner than a vw golf tdi
LOL
The Class 47 is a fantastic all rounder of a loco, happy on both freight & passenger duties.
The Sulzer engine is superbly engineered and very quiet even under load.
But they tended to produce too much smoke when pulling away even when hot which showed the age of the design.
Still miss the Waterloo to Exeter trains they used to haul; the lovely old carriages with wood trim and comfy seats etc. It made a day out from Basingstoke to Exeter complete going on those old trains instead of the more modern class 159s (although I quite like these too now since they date back to BR days).
THE best mixed traffic diesel loco in the world. The black 5 of diesels. Loved driving them, and we have 3 at GBRf, and I'm always first to put my name on the duty roster. Fantastic locos.
@@railfreightdrivergallagherGBRf Perhaps I was a little out of order about their tendancy to smoke, may be due to lack of maintenance.
@@Martindyna Not at all. The fuel pumps on them were set to give the maximum delivery, hence they clag like nothing else. As the saying goes amongst railwaymen, 'No smoke no poke'.
Be it aircraft, trains, cars or whatever, one wonders where we would be without enthusiasts like you guys, from whichever country you hail from. Keep it up. The best I can do is spin spanners on old cars, but i'll keep doing my bit.....
It must have been fantastic to have the job of starting and driving this engine. Love it.
Thanks for the vid.
Pure class. Bet a Shed won't last this long.
Nice engine inside crankcase when you get the bloody heavy crankcase door off ,We also use to have problems with crankcase wedges coming loose they held the main
bearing caps on. They were on the E exam to check . Normally very good starting from cold and soon settled down with very little smoke sounded nice flat out on load bank
Glad to see another one resurrected...keep up the good work, from a Yank doing the same thing to Alco's.
What a happy sound !! ITS ALIVE !!!!
Listen to those injectors squeak, loving it !!!
Just one word. Brilliant. Thanks for sharing
trust you to like it good ol keith .
They should take her out and do some high speed shuntering.
I take it some people will recognize this as the Super Class 47.
It's alive!
She's coming back soon guys, now in WCR maroon and progressing quickly as of 11.7.17
That train sounded mean when it started up.
Corr blimey i bet that smoke smelt good :)
Thank you for the video, and nice job.
had This Class 47 on a road learning Video Special from London to Corby and back
good to see it in working order if i get time i will put this on you tub
Ron Stanbridge.
Takes a long time to get the heat into big engines!
Sounds awsome!!!
All the spiders will be dropping off the ceiling right about now..
By now they have evolved and breathing diesel fumes instead of oxygen.
good engines sulzer maim problems we had with them coolant leaks at transition bushes and top liner joints and not forgetting broken head studs
Judging by the colour, I'd say that's an ex-Royal Mail locomotive.
come on girl fire them all up! Give us a big clagg!
Love these videoa
As 31144 says it was abit rough to start with, did sound like 1 fuel pump was stuck fully open, hence the clagg and odd note, but soon settled down. Also the bloody fire alarm, shove a rag in the bell to shut it up for a while......
0:46 to 1:00 I danced in my seat. XD That sounded like some sort of music to me! :D
How do they start them big engines
It starts with priming the fuel system, clearing it of air and bringing the pressure up in the injector rails; that's the job of the high-pitched motor often heard just before starting. Then either a dedicated starter motor is energised (in alternator-fitted locos such as refurbished 37s) or the main generator is connected as a motor, to turn the engine over. Once it's running under its own power, the governor will automatically maintain idle RPM, and it's just a case of waiting for it to warm up to operating temperature.
Think its got something to do with the compression ration of Sulzers Dieselmanmike, she seemed to struggle a bit once she got running, very un-Sulzer like I have to say
Fek the enviroment, lets get this lady on the rails! Hehe.
prestart air , we use to hold the comp governor in .
What engines are in these old Sweetheart’s?
12 cyl Sulzer its a twin bank engine has 2 crankshafts geared together
Well engineered engine cyl block is fabricated steel not cast main problems we had with them was transition bushes (coolant coupling from block to cyl head) leaking . Main bearing wedges coming loose and sheared head studs where also problem but caused by poor maintenance
Sulzer 12LDRA28-C
What hp is it
great video mate xx
Is it still on the tracks
What year is she
white smoke, we have new pope :)
lol this is better than 99% of dance music
proper train.
Another shed roof skylight bites the dust.
what is the sound from 48-56?
lovely
this is still parked up at carnforth outside i guess still waiting for its return
@choirboyfromhell1 To Alco's what?
is it the old royal mail paini work
This is known as BR Parcels Sector livery. Hauling Royal Mail trains would have been only a small part of its intended duties, though the principal red colour was intended to go well with Post Office red rolling stock. BR ran its own parcels services known as Red Star, as well as trains dedicated to newspaper distribution.
note to self: must fit ventilation in roof
InterCity82 hey intercity
Who owns 47772?
what is the current status of 772?
Scraped
Back in service with West Coast named Carnforth TMD
I wont one!
