4 x 47s on the buffer stops. Love it. Plus the old blue/grey buffet coaches. And the green liveried parecles first generation dmu.. No sprinters or pacers in sight. Back when man.victoria was also still a decent looking station!! Not a shopping centre how it looks now..
Having grown up in suburban Surrey I was spoiled with Waterloo and Victoria etc but the north was always the trainspotting golden egg. I got to go to York in 1982 by (the then still) shiny new HST which was beyond exciting. But going along tracks with overhead power was the dream so views like 2:45 were so amazing!!!
Thank you for the brilliant comment Olaf, and really glad you enjoyed the video. Strange isn't it? I spent so many hours sitting at the end of Piccadilly's platform 5 watching an endless procession of AC electrics that, for me, that was the norm. A really big day out was a trip to the capitol, with visits to Waterloo and Paddington being the highlights. My first ride on a shiny new and seemingly so futuristic, HST was from Leeds to Doncaster, It was indeed, beyond exciting, even though we never got anywhere near the 125mph mark on such a short journey!
U have some gr8 videos mate I use to love all the British rail trains my favourite were the 3 carriage elekki trains forgot the name of them also that colour blue of the trains just brings all the memory's back, godbless you sir,
Hi my name is Phil i did 50yrs on the footplate 8yrs on steam i started at edgeley shed in 1961in 1962 i was made a fireman at Trafford Park shed in1964 I moved back to edgeley I finished my time out at longsight as a driver so it could be me on some of this video Regards Phil.
All diesels, and no electrics? I would guess its a Sunday, as they would turn the electric off. But if the date stamp is correct, it was a Friday. Great quality video for the 80's. 👍😎👍 MDS
Yes, there was resignalling work going on wasn't there, you can see the new signals in place but hooded over. And in the distance at 2:41 there's the electrification train
I initially suggested in my notes that it was a Sunday Andy, although some open later suggested it was extended engineering work on the OLE running into a weekday. Ether way, it’s a great line op of duffs isn’t it? I used to love spending Sunday mornings and early afternoons bashing the diesels running between Stockport and Piccadilly . You never knew what would turn up. When the power came back on it was like a signal that the weekend was almost over!!
I think you may be spot on there FWB. It certainly has the feel of a Sunday with the juice off doesn't it. I spent many a such Sundays happily bashing diesels between Stockport and Piccadilly during the eighties. You never knew what would turn up, as illustrated by the NSE duff in this video. Thank you for the great comment.
Love the range of loco's in this video. :)
You and me both Ethan. Sunday drags always brought interesting locos into the Manchester area. Oh how I miss those days!
The good old days for sure
I agree totally.

I couldn't agree more Christopher. Sundays were always interesting when the drags were on
Splendid
Thanks Stenut. Glad you're enjoying the collection.

Thanks for the great comments Lee. Really glad you're enjoying the collection.
I spent many a day between 1962-1967 around Gateshead and Heaton depot happy days after a climb up the ash heap at Gateshead 52A.
Oh to go back to those great days when you could look round a depot without getting into trouble eh Jeffrey?
Very good video, because all the intercitys are with diesel, having electrification? greeting
They were often diesel hauled on Sundays because the power was off for engineering.
Amazing
Amazing rare footage :)
Absolutely Connor. Sundays were always special at Piccadilly when the juice was off.
Kartwheelkarl Trains, Railway and Travel Videos indeed
Karl check out “ A day in the North East in July 1983 Gateshead depot, spent many a Sunday sneaking around there like 🤪
Yep..the days before H&E when kids were tolerated around depots. Great times.

Hello again Phil. Really glad these films are still bringing back happy memories for you.

@@AndreiTupolev I'd just assumed it was a Sunday and the juice was off. I used to love it when that happened.
I reckon the power must have been off with all the 47 action must have been a Sunday

Is it a 114 or a 127?
I think you're right Anne...I think it is a 127. Thank you for pointing it out. I've now changed it in the description.
No leccies around guessing it was a diversions day....possible sunday engineering.
