I switched from Sketchup to Rhino and never did I once regret it. Working in Rhino is much faster with the command window and the modeling possibilities are endless.

I came here just to see what rhino had to offer, didn’t really want to switch bc I’d spent a lot of time with sketchup, but once you showed the loft feature I was instantly sold lol

I am sorry, but the simplicity of SketchUp cannot be beaten. It is incredibly intuitive and the fact that it has only a handful of buttons means that it is a lot more appealing to someone getting into 2D/3D work. Just my opinion, of course!

Hey, thanks for the video, also, with groups you can ctr shift to edit their subparts, which then makes them usable the same way you do in sketchup.

I switched from sketchup a week ago and as Im still learning, it blows my mind how i always find solutions for every flustration i had with sketchup. Also the main reason for why i wanted to switch was that i hoped I would no longer need to use 2 softwares- before it was Sketchup for 3D and Autocad Lt for 2D, but having to export and import and clean exported files all the time was so annoying. Rhino does jump between 2D and 3D so damn well. In the past I learnt Archicad, but i found having all those Bim tools there all the time also pretty annoing, as all I needed was to make models for vizualizations and linework for clean architectual drawings.

hi Nate and everyone who migrated to Rhino from Sketchup, I'm planning to migrate to Rhino from Sketchup (and doing so right now) how do you make drawing documentation (i.e sections, elevation, etc) in Rhino, I'm struggling to find a good tutorial about this. Because in Skethcup and Layout have dynamic documentation feature where once you change the model it'll be reflected in the drawing(s). Really appreciate your tutorial videos!

So glad you are switching! Yes I am in the works of making a series of additional videos and will add this to the list. For now, use clipping plane for sections a print using raster setting. you can set line weights in the properties menu.

@@NatesStudioDesk Thanks Nate! Let me first start getting use to the commands, interface, and all (luckily I also use AutoCAD)

Seems to mee that there is alot of benefits with rhino over sketchup. But for people who have switched.. Is it also faster for modeling straight line easy geometry architecture?(If that makes sense) Seems to me that modelleing easy objects still is faster in sketchup.
What do the people who have done the switch think?

I like both softwares.. it feels to me as though auto desk is really fragmented in their approach.. one day it’s revit, next it’s maya, next it’s fusion 360, autocad and so on, it’s honestly getting a bit confusing. I have also used sketch up and I like the unification of the software to work with other services provided by google. I feel sketch-up has more creative tools that can assist in my projects. From helping with design studies to placing projects on site using the google earth plugins. Just my thoughts. I’m a fan of all 3D software, some more than others.

In the end, I believe it’s all about how your brain processes information. If you are a fluid designer I’d say go with sketch-up,, if you’re coming from a rigid/autocad past, then continue in the auto desk line

Yea sketchup integration with google earth is really nice and recently came across issues with rhino google earth integration. It’s good to be able to use both tools! Thanks for the comments!

Sub-Object selection is how you (dive) into and select objects inside a group.

Never gonna leave Sketchup whatever anyone says its the best and yeah bro i love the addins part 😂 but i also use rhino and love it too soo ...
And bruh heard of layout u can also do amazing drawings layouts and cad stuff in Sketchup too if u understand how to do it.
But yeah I understand rhino is better in many ways and biggest of all is integration with grasshopper the most amazing thing .
But still i just cannot stop using sketchup its just easy as hell ... And its fun to work in .

@@parix85 if u ask me seriosly in this day and age the software u use doesn't matter anymore its all about how much u can master them although some may have dominance over some areas but all the softwares today are just powerful as hell in what they do .
