Wow. WOW! You’re not just a yoga guy! There was so much great info in here. As a slow, very busy ultra runner with a broken circadian rhythm, I can’t recommend trail ultras enough. Less overuse injuries, faster recovery, and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere I haven’t found anywhere else in the running world. I really hope you dive in sooner, then share your new insights! I’m looking forward to your next Q & A, as I train for my first 100k!
Thanks so much Kelly for your kind feedback, that is really nice to read and gives me the confidence to do another one of these! I love trail running so ultras are the next step. I currently do trail 20-25km events as I have 2 young daughters and training whilst sleep deprived has been difficult and knocks you back sometimes. As they are getting older I will definitely start to push the distances as I have more time when they are both at school too. Good luck with the 100k training, that is going to be an amazing achievement!! 🙌😀
So much useful info! I have a question if it fits a next q&a video. The question is related to hydration since I go out for my runs at 5ish am and I don't a always the time to drink the amount of water I ll need. How do you make sure you're hydrated before your runs and do you use any "energy" products to hydrate when you feel dehydrated during or before the runs? Thank you in advance for the answer, and thank you for your videos!
Hello, I'm new to this community and I'm very happy to be here! I am 16 and especially since I'm new to my running journey your videos are very helpful for me! It's a pleasure to watch them, so well arranged and informative! Thanks for this channel and I'm looking forward to see more of your content! 😊👏 Laura
Thank you so much for your kind feedback Laura, glad you thought this video was helpful! 😊 I appreciate you taking the time to comment! Thank you 🙏Welcome to my RUclips community 😀
Very nice! I got the flu 2 days ago and I feel like crap so I can’t run, I decided to go for a walk today and what a treat! I got to listen to this Q&A while I walked my 2 miles! Congrats on the new format, I love it! Dang, I learned so much on this video. The more you get into running the more you realize how much you don’t know! Please keep doing these Q&As, I do have a question: I usually do the same 2 mile run through my neighborhood. It’s repetitive but it never gets boring, I love to run. However I might be willing to drive somewhere to go for a trail run. Since I really want to bond with nature, how can I go about finding the most scenic trails in my city?
Thank you so much Tony for taking the time to send me this detailed feedback!! I really appreciate your comments and this one was very valuable in terms of future content I will look to do for this community. Sorry to hear you’ve got the flu, well done for getting out for a walk! I love that!! Hope you get well soon 🙏 I will answer your trail question on the next q&a video a sit seems quite a good response so far. I will aim to do this in the next 2/3 weeks so look out for it and thanks again 👍🏻😊
I don't think I have the flu, but I was slammed with a nasty cold on Monday and had to take two days off work for the first time in about ten years. Not back to running yet but hope to log a few miles on Saturday morning. Hope you feel up to a run quickly! I really think being runners helps us recover from these things faster.
@@beckytaylor6885 oh absolutely! Let’s whoop little nasty intruders butt!! lol I’ll be out there running soon, hopefully tomorrow! I need to chill out on the workoholism and run more. This was mother nature’s way of telling me to take it easy 😅
Absolutely Becky, I've seen several studies that show runners generally suffer from less colds and flu but when they do they bounce back quicker because of how much more resilient our bodies are.
Great video. Just done my first half marathon today and I think that change in relaxing, mentality and change in philosophy helped me finally. Thanks for putting me on that journey.
It is stunning Becky. So green with rolling fields and little farm buildings and not a car in site! Thats so cool to hear we have similar goals 😊 thanks for commenting as always 🙏
I’m so excited to see this post! I’ve been loving your stretches and kept thinking that I’d love to see a running Q&A from you! Thanks for all the great info.
Absolutely brilliant Ash so much information and lots to take on board! Such a wide range of topics covered and special thanks for answering my question it is very helpful and I must write down your recommendations 👌
Thank you Tracy 🙏 I appreciate your question and communication with me all the time, it’s the least I could do. Sorry it took so long for me to decide to post it 🙈
Thank you for your videos - I’m finding them really useful. Please would you consider doing some videos for stretching/yoga following bigger distances such as marathons and ultras for recovery? TIA
Thank you so much Kate, so glad you are finding my videos useful 🙏 I have just recorded a stretching for marathon training session but I’m very organised with my filming schedule so this won’t be out until 14th April 😊
Great advice! I'm going to try the positive self talk for hills tomorrow. I'm running my first trail half tomorrow and there is a half mile uphill at around mile 11 that has been haunting me for weeks!
Glad it was helpful Michelle. Absolutely it is something you can strengthen. Strengthening is the answer to lots of common issues really because our modern living patterns weaken our body. Thanks as always for your feedback 😊
Thoroughly enjoyed your video Ash..I have recently discovered your Stretching Videos which I enjoy and they work....Your calming voice is brilliant so keep up the good work it's much appreciated 🧎👍🏃♂️
Great video I liked you talking about minimalist shoes I have just made same mistake too of running to much with barefoots and sprained my ankle I'm now focusing more on gradually getting into it Would love to hear you talk about more about training with minimalist footwear
Thank you for this video, it's very helpful in organizing my goals, considering adaptation. The explanation of breathing and emphasizing its importance, as well as the tips on self-motivation, are excellent:)
Some great points. I really like your idea of relaxing more when running. I noticed when I do speed work if I try to relax and breathe I feel lighter and although I don't feel like I'm trying as hard my feet just go faster and my form is better. If that makes any sense. I really enjoy your content keep it up buddy!
This is so helpful! I’m not sure if you have done a video on marathon training! I have done a half marathon but when trying to train for marathon I always get injured. Do you think “anyone” can do a marathon? Or maybe some people have a limit to their mileage?
Hi Ash, For my sprained ankle which is 95+% healed now, my physio advised to not stretch after running, but to warm up before. She said this because my muscles are warm and it's easy to over stretch. This was whilst I was recovering. Now I have no pain during and after running, should I start doing stretching after running?
If there is no pain it sounds like it could be ok to stretch afterwards. Maybe test it and make sure you definitely avoid going too deep, and don’t push into pain. Maybe check with your physio as I can’t actually see your ankle to confirm.

Thanks as always for your feedback and comments 🙌🏻 well done on your first half marathon 👍🏻🎉 so glad I could help play a small part in that 😊
I have only been in the UK once but a 25K trail run in the countryside sounds AMAZING! A 50K - probably on trails - is one of my goals also.
