I didn't get it : you liked the game enough to be a DT essential, AKA a seal of excellency, but now, it's just a seal of approval? What are the differences that made you "downgrade" your opinion about this game?
The Shogunstein Yeah it was a failed KS, AKA they cancelled it way before the end. The only reason I remember this game from that kickstarter was do to seeing Larry Elmore & Richard Garfield attached to it (I’m not sure which cards Larry Elmore painted, but it makes sense they look beautiful because his artwork is so stunning that any graphic design around it looks too digital unless you keep it really simple like here. Yeah, I don’t see anything hardcore innovative, sadly-In fact I think it’s hilarious that RG can’t stay away from a land/energy mechanic (just too many years that game has been around). Personally, I’ve never really endorsed CCGs or professional curcuits for a game perspective, but IMO I don’t think he imagined what MtG would become. I feel like he wanted to make MtG version of Catan here, so mormons can play it (ie no violence-a very common hobby among mormons, unless there is violence). Also keep in mind you are getting all these cards at $25 dollars and it also seems to aim to teach a lot of very basic mechanics, ie a gateway game, to non-gamers. I almost think MtG players and hardcore boardgames, but rather the teen crowd looking for a game with amazing artwo k in their budget. MSRP was likely on their mind too, and if you look at it’s onlinebpricevat minitures market, it now costs $25, which is a great deal for a learning game (actual MSRP is $35). I know most of us were probably hoping for something more tuned to us, but I, for one, am always happy to see these original kings of industry coming back just to make games for the fun of it. Although it is true-I hope to see something more for our demographic coming out from them...then again, do I really need more games lol!?
Saw this near the top of the list of things being showed off at Gen Con, and BOOM! In with a review. Not sure how interested I actually am, but still a neat coincidence.
The game seems incredible simple. Might be good for some, but to me this looks even simpler than the Bunny Kingdom, which already is super simple. I mean there doesn't seem to be much game other than drafting, so is this a Sushi Go with monster theme?
I dunno, seems very bland and RNG. Seems with 5 players it will be even worse, because you will need to compete with much more players over getting specific cards.
I'm always surprised what Tom praises/ridicules in art. I understand that art is subjective, but I would title this game 'Blandest Fantasy Art: The Card Game'.
Hmm, this look horrendously boring and as you mentioned unnecessarily random, disappointing. Would give it a shot and see though, maybe more fun than it looks.
Thematically, it looks waaaaay more exciting than Magic, Pokemon or KeyForge. Gameplay wise it looks sound - just a shame it all comes down to victory points - ugh.
Good review. Not buying the game after it, though. Production and theming don't catch the eye. Also the game seems very familiar with Greed by D.Vaccarino, but with extra mechanisms like money and cages, that initially are doing the same thing for twice longer and half less satisfying with combos. Also, this "drafting personal goals with all the other cards" thing is such an unnoing element in drafting tactical game - I doubt it brings any strategy to gameplay, only floods the system with math. I can't understand why you were speaking so highly of the game for a long time. Hard pass for me.

definitely curious about this myself!
A good game and a profitable game are 2 different things!
@@donniedeville5102 What do you mean?
I like the black and gold card backs. Very classy looking.
Was this the game you guys almost did a KS of?

A friend of mine was very interested in this game. When I saw it was another drafting game, I kinda passed.
"Do I tap these lands?" Ahahaha
Be careful, you're gonna get sued by Wizards of the coast :-)
@@vonwoolf9963 That patent expired 5 years ago.
A neoprene mat for the round board would have gone a long way with production quality here
There is definitely something like it and you reviewed it.... it is Monster Lands :D From the beginning I thought I was watching Monster Lands.

Mommy Fortuna’s Midnight Carnival the Card Game
No one mentioned this is a 3rd Doctor story? When I first saw the title I thought it was another Doctor Who game!
Kind of reminds me of Seasons in a way. Which we love so might pick this one up as well. Thanks for another great review Mr Vasel!
Really? I'd say not even remotely similar.
Yeah, seems just ok.
Best part is the art.
I dunno, seems very bland and RNG. Seems with 5 players it will be even worse, because you will need to compete with much more players over getting specific cards.
If it doesn't have drashigs in it I'm not interested.

Too many cards for me. Shame cuz i really wanted to like this game and buy it.
Buy it and throw some of the cards out as you unbox it. Problem solved.

Not for me. Way too much luck with all those cards in the deck. Art work is great.
Richard Garfield: Coasting on Magic since 1993
King of Tokyo?
Netrunner.
Keyforge
Fergit_, making uniformed comments on RUclips. Lol
Looks like dook to me.
Richard Garfiled is obsessed with lands. But he can never make them work right. Give up man!!
Approval? are you kidding me, wow put his name on a box of cereal and you'll give it a seal of approval.
This theme is terrible. You are a greedy monster who captures magical beings and takes money for displaying them publicly. Awful.
Isn't it great! Sounds awesome!
@@Zaidkw nothing wrong with the theme. That is cool. SOunds like an easily offended sjw to me if they are crying about the theme
