With all the praise and demand Gigantic has gotten since its cancellation was announced I have a feeling the people at Disney won't be able to keep this great movie idea locked up for much longer.
Even though it sucks that these projects were cancelled, it's pretty interesting to know that even a major entertainment company like Disney also has had it's share of projects that never saw the light of day.
While it’s sad that these projects were canceled, I wouldn’t say it’s a over for them. Remember, if it took over 70 year for Disney to make a movie based on the snow queen that later became Frozen, than maybe we’ll see these back in the spotlight again in the future.
And since that one after all those years of waiting ended up as the highest grossing animated film ever at the time, imagine what it would be like for the companies if they do return to one of these abandoned projects.
I would’ve love to see Dumbo II, Gigantic, Wildlife, King of the Elves and Pixar’s Newt go through. I wonder if it’s possible for some of those Projects can be revived.
It’s great to know more about the cancelled projects from Disney. I already heard about both Dumbo II and Gigantic. I was looking forward to them but it’s gone. It’s so sad that it got canceled because of creative differences and real life events. It’s so frustrating that they announced the projects and then later they got cancelled. Hopefully, in the future, they will bring new developments to these projects. For example, Walt Disney tried to make the animated movie versions of some fairy tales (The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, etc.) but failed to go through. Then years later, they finally did it with the new generation of Disney employees. I hope it’ll be the same thing for these cancelled projects with the future generation of the employees. We’ll see how it goes. That’s a nice list, MsMojo. Good work!
Back in the 90s they planned to do an animated “Aida” film, but it just became a Disney musical instead. After Hunchback and Pocahontas didn’t do well, they probably wanted to shelve heavier content like Aida.
Couple of honorable mentions: both Fantasia and Rescuers were going to have a third film in their series but got cancelled, in the case of the former it was poor box office of Fantasia 2000 and in the case of the later it was the author of the books dying just a year after the second film's release in 1990. Treasure Planet was also supposed to get a sequel and not just a vague "if the film is successful we'll start work on another". They had already written a script and had William Dafoe set to play the villain Ironbeard before it got canned due to the first bombing. Heck, I believe you can even find some storyboards for it online if you dig deep enough.
One of the reasons that Newt didn't go foward was because the story was too similar to Fox's "Rio" and the movie was already getting out,so disney decided to pull the plug
I remember when I first heard about Newt a few years back and was desperately waiting for further news but with it being scraped It had left my memory till today
After the release of “Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast” there were also at least 2 movie sequels planned to be released, but they were cancelled, the sequel to Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast was canceled due to story problems. To make matters worse, the studio behind Tinker Bell movies Disneytoon Studios was shut down
I’m here for the Gigantic movie! That would be the closest thing to Renaissance Disney since Tangled. And because the creators of Tangled were in the makings of that, it shows that artistic differences can make a major impact on the name brand of Disney. I think I would've liked to have seen Fraidy Cat the most, considering its subtle atmosphere. In fact, I'd quite like to see Disney do an animated film set in ancient Japan.
Besides Gigantic, Fraidy Cat, Mort, and Tamlin sound like they would’ve been amazing. And poor Ghosts. Can you imagine being looked over for Chicken Little?!
Speaking of Disney and movies that didn't make it out for the public, there's a VERY VERY POPULAR Disney movie that ALMOST never came about. Due to everything it had to face. Two MAJOR setbacks. And that popular Disney movie is The Lion King. Those working on the movie left two of the creators hanging to finish it themselves, because they thought that the movie wouldn't take off, boy were they wrong, lol. And when the movie was all pretty much done, the studio where they were in the works of producing the movie, it caught fire, destroying EVERYTHING! And they had to start ALL OVER AGAIN from scratch. But thank God that movie got to see the Big Screen. Too bad these movies haven't. And I think I'd love to see all these. Especially Fraidy Cat, A Few Good Ghosts, Newt, and Gigantic.

What about The Search for Mickey Mouse? It was planned as Disney's 50th animated feature and it was going to have cameos of characters from every previous film. It would have been the ultimate crossover long before Avengers: Endgame.
The Emperor's Nightingale, Tam Lin, and Gigantic are cancelled Disney animated films that I want to be made. I do love fairy tales and there are plenty of fairytales, folktales, legends, fables, and stories that I want to see as animated films made by Disney!🏰📚🧚🏻♀️📜
Gigantic looks wicked good if that happened! Honorable mention: the newer Lizzie McGuire series about grown up Lizzie that was going to be on Disney+, I was furious when it got shelved!
To this day, they’re still planning and cancelling projects :/ you wouldn’t know unless you’re up to date on pre production and planning. They were planning to do Snow White and Rose Red (not the same as snow white and the seven dwarves) but they cancelled it >_> I was so excited too. It’s because Pixar is so far up Disney’s ass and now Disney is full of that and marvel and Star Wars that Disney only gets ONE movie out every other year that’s original
Gigantic is by far the movie I was the most excited for when it was announced and the most disappointed about it when it was "shelved" among the 10 movies in this list. Although I did have one minor complaint that I had to do with the design of the girl giant Inma, she supposed to be around 11 years old but in a couple pieces of the concept art they drew her face like she was a teenager or an adult instead of looking like child like she should've looked and I'd hoped that was only just a byproduct of the concept artists not used to drawing human child characters. much like Vanellope I believe that Inma would make a great and interesting addition to the line of Disney princesses. I do hope that work on Gigantic gets picked up where it left off in the near future.
*I remember they teased Gigantic in zootopia by showing films of Disney movies coming out in the future with that weasel. I totally forgot about that movie.*
I honestly think it’s funny how Blue Sky beat Pixar to the whole “last of their kind falling in love” story with Rio, forcing Newt to be cancelled, and now Disney owns Rio. Disney still won in the end. Hopefully that made sense.
2 other Movies that got Cancelled were also Hercules 2 & Darkwing Duck. Although both could be good as Disney+ Original Movies. I would also like to see both Mort & Gigantic if given the Chance, whether be Theatrical or as a Disney+ Original.
I'm surprised you haven't mentioned the Disney princess crossover short film that got cancelled because the animation studios gave up on hand drawn animation.
King of the Elves. There is a Grimm tale that should b made into a movie, The Pink. A young prince who has the power to fulfill his own wishes as many as he wants. An angel appears and told the queen that, it would b the first time Disney has brought in an angel to their films, *EVER*.
Most of these would have been good to see, but I am glad Disney did NOT get the opportunity to mess with Terry Pratchett's Mort. I believe they would have totally ruined it by not following the source material.
I was really looking forward to Gigantic. Heard so much about it at D23 years back. It would mark the second time Disney took on the Jack and the Beanstalk tale with several twists. And to think it served as an easter egg in Zootopia among Duke Weaselton's bootleg DVD display. It never saw the light of day, so much for that little reference.
Makes me uncomfortable that Disney was gonna mess with Terry Pratchetts work. Mort (and all the discworld stories) have a level of humour that Disney couldnt achieve in their wildest dreams.
Newt was canceled because of Rio (April 15, 2011), Disney didn't want to have another A Bugs Life/Antz fiasco, with two movies with basically the same story/plot coming out at the same time.
Even though we never got to see Gigantic, we at least got to see a parody in the movie Zootopia. Happy thursday Ms Mojo and see You soon, take care and God bless You.
So sad that we never got Gigantic, it was clearly a fair way into development given that they announced it and it also had an easter egg in Zootopia, I hope they take another look at it and try to rework it
i remember back when newt was coming out seeing the artwork along it being similar to rio being one of the reasons. instead of the unnecessary remakes would love if they brought back at least some of these movies as disney's concepts were always fun for me to look into.(also remember seeing a scrapped 7 dwarves animation.) would've liked to have seen dumbo 2,fraidy cat,the emeror's nightingale(mickey mouse needs a recent movie in general.) & especially gigantic(really hope that's brought back in some way.:3).
The real reason Newt was booted was because of Blue Sky's Rio. They didn't want to have people compared to their new project of lizards with birds. I do hope Newt and Gigantic come into fruition. I believe those two projects will still be cool to see for Disney and Pixar.
I wish Gigantic was made it would been the top Disney's cult-classics it will on the list with other greats Aladdin,Toy Story,Jungle Book,Lion King,Winnie The Pooh,Pirates of the Caribbean,Peter Pan,101 Dalmatians,Cinderella,Little Mermaid,Beauty and the Beast,Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,Lilo and Stitch,Bambi,Robin Hood,Hercules,Dumbo,Tarzan,Pocahontas,Aristocats,Alice in Wonderland,Frozen,Chicken Little,Emperor's New Grove and Pinocchio.
I wish Gigantic did come to be. It seemed like it had a lot going for it. I guess sometimes some projects are too big to get off the ground even for Disney.
@@dreamguardian8320 Looked like a big stand out(no pun intended)compared to the other stuff Disney has been cranking out. And speaking of which, Inma herself would have been 60 feet tall had it became a reality.
This is why I hate Disney’s management, most of those cancelled projects were ambitious and deserved to be made instead of those horrible live action remakes. Newt should’ve been made instead of Good Dinosaur, the movie is considered Pixar’s biggest flop; also Gigantic would’ve been awesome.
*The Emperor's Nightingale* would be a great release now b/c it would be a neat commentary about A.I. that we're using alot. Of course, Studios is favoring AI rn, lol
My honorable mentions: Epic Mickey 3 and Epic Donald Haunted Mansion Animated Series Kingdom Hearts Animated Series Kingdom Of The Sun (Emperors New Groove Prototype) Maximum Horsepower (Horace Horsecollar In Space) Monsters Inc 2 Princess Academy Short Roald Dahl’s Gremlins Movie Roger Rabbit 2: The Toon Platoon The Shadow King (though that one might not be scrapped for long) Untitled Muppet Halloween Special The World According To Winnie The Pooh Yellow Submarine Remake
King of The Elves, I understand, was set in the Mississippi Delta. Considering that area's rich history of blues, that was all the incentive I had to be excited for it.
It's crazy how far they got with Gigantic was before getting canned. Like they even teased it in Zootopia (the sequence where Duke Weaselton is selling pirated copies of films that haven't yet been released). On a side note, Michael Eisner will always get a lot of credit for overseeing Disney during their renaissance (heck, even his initiative to make direct to dvd sequels to every Disney animated film now looks tame compared to their soulless remakes) but boy could he be a dick. Cancelling a film just to get back at Roy Disney? Geez.

much like Vanellope I believe that Inma would make a great and interesting addition to the line of Disney princesses.
I do hope that work on Gigantic gets picked up where it left off in the near future.
I would have loved to see Newt, and maybe even Gigantic.
Fun Fact: Dumbo 2 was going to be directed by Robert C. Ramirez, who was also the director of the 2000 animated film, Joseph: King of Dreams.
Gigantic is the one I wanted to see most. Also, what is everybody’s favorite concept art for that movie?
Not suprised that one was your favourite 😉
@@the_one_who_is_many Mine is the one where Inma is looking for Jack in the cornfield.
Mines probably the one where he’s hanging from her hair in the clouds
@@the_one_who_is_many Inma looks like she is just causal talking a walk while Jack is just dangling there.
I wanted to see Gigantic too😢
I really wanted to see Gigantic
Same
Me too
@@alicebthegachaweirdo8378 I’ll say.
Me three😢
I'd like to see a version of Mort some day. I've read the book and quite enjoyed it
Disney could never capture the humor of the book, they wouldn't even try.
I think Walt Disney Animation Studios should release Kingdom of the Sun as a work print, just like The Thief and the Cobbler
I remember seeing the concept art for that, it looked so cute.
I for one wish they had not given up on hand drawn animation, for it's the true magic of Disney in my opinion.
@@dreamguardian8320 I heard Gigantic was gonna use both if i’m not mistaken.
They really should try to get back to their old animation style.
@@marthagilbert3459 Agreed.
I wanna see them!
All of them! Especially the Ultimate Princess Academy crossover Movie!
King of the Elves. There is a Grimm tale that should b made into a movie, The Pink. A young prince who has the power to fulfill his own wishes as many as he wants. An angel appears and told the queen that, it would b the first time Disney has brought in an angel to their films, *EVER*.
Out of all the movies that were never made, it seems Mort and Gifantic could have been the most promising
Particularly Gigantic
Gigantic would also be my favorite pick!
Same here!
Mine too.
2:37 Now I know where it reference from the early 90s Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers
I was really infuriated when they cancelled Gigantic!
Same
So was I.
I would've loved to see all of these
I really wish we got gigantic, it looked unique
Quite a big stand out for sure(no pun intended).
Me too😢
Fraidy Cat and Wild Life should have been made based on the sketches and drawings.
Most of these would have been good to see, but I am glad Disney did NOT get the opportunity to mess with Terry Pratchett's Mort.
I believe they would have totally ruined it by not following the source material.
Maybe Netflix could revive Gigantic away from Disney’s tyrannical grip.
That's not a good idea. Netflix is becoming corrupt and tyrannical too, with all the cancellations their doing.
I'm a little surprised that Dumbo 2 didn't get dusted in off during Disney's period of obsession with direct-to-homevideo sequels.
Gigantic would've been amazing
Agreed
Yea, I agree
@@alicebthegachaweirdo8378 Cool
I agree.
I would be really happy to see gigantic or maybe even Dumbo II
Definitely sucks that we won't be able to see any of those, but the only one I wanted to see was gigantic
I can more or less relate to this
Makes me uncomfortable that Disney was gonna mess with Terry Pratchetts work. Mort (and all the discworld stories) have a level of humour that Disney couldnt achieve in their wildest dreams.
The Emperor's Nightingale was made into an episode of Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers.
Newt was canceled because of Rio (April 15, 2011), Disney didn't want to have another A Bugs Life/Antz fiasco, with two movies with basically the same story/plot coming out at the same time.
I wish they released gigantic, dumbo 2, mort and a few good ghosts
I would have loved to see these movies made
Main one I wanted to see is Gigantic.
@@bighand1530 Same here.
@@dreamguardian8320 Can’t blame ya
Even though we never got to see Gigantic, we at least got to see a parody in the movie Zootopia. Happy thursday Ms Mojo and see You soon, take care and God bless You.
Better than nothing I guess
@@bighand1530 You said it
@@samuelcollantes1175 Thanks
King of Elves and Gigantic
Those are my top two as well
Hello dear friend, I pray you are having a great day over there...
So sad that we never got Gigantic, it was clearly a fair way into development given that they announced it and it also had an easter egg in Zootopia, I hope they take another look at it and try to rework it
We more or less got Newt, only from a different studio. Premise is basically Rio
That’s why they cancelled Newt.
@@bighand1530 they did that to avoid a bug's life vs antz fiasco
i remember back when newt was coming out seeing the artwork along it being similar to rio being one of the reasons.
instead of the unnecessary remakes would love if they brought back at least some of these movies as disney's concepts were always fun for me to look into.(also remember seeing a scrapped 7 dwarves animation.)
would've liked to have seen dumbo 2,fraidy cat,the emeror's nightingale(mickey mouse needs a recent movie in general.) & especially gigantic(really hope that's brought back in some way.:3).
The real reason Newt was booted was because of Blue Sky's Rio. They didn't want to have people compared to their new project of lizards with birds. I do hope Newt and Gigantic come into fruition. I believe those two projects will still be cool to see for Disney and Pixar.
You know how I found out about Gigantic’s cancellation? Well, I was browsing Wikipedia and saw Gigantic was not in the list of upcoming Disney films.
Of all the things mention here, I really wish we got Gigantic, though Tam Lin and The King of Elves would have been interesting as well
Gigantic looks adorable.
Lol imagine getting shelved for Chicken Little of all movies
A Few Good Ghosts, Newt and Gigantic.
I heard that Newt was dropped because Fox was doing Rio and sighted that the two movies were to similar.🤔
Do Nickelodeon next please, there are so many canceled projects from this studio too!
Yes
King of elves looks so cool !!! Sad we won’t get to see it !!
That is one I wanted to see second most
I think King of the Elves would be visually spectacular
Hello dear friend, I pray you are having a great day over there...
I certainly think it would have been both a gigantic hit(no pun intended) at the box office and have quite a following too.
I would've been interested in seeing 'King of the Elves' and 'Fraidy Cat'
Hello dear friend, I pray you are having a great day over there...
Hope you are enjoying your day Uhh Linda
Newt was scrapped because the plot was pretty much identical to Blue Sky's Rio which was coming out first.
I wish Gigantic did come to be. It seemed like it had a lot going for it. I guess sometimes some projects are too big to get off the ground even for Disney.
It was one of the Disney movies I wanted to see most for sure.
@@bighand1530 Mine too.
Disney would be smart to re-release the older Pixar Movies unchanged except for updated, improved graphics.

6:08, 7:04, 8:00, 9:13
My honorable mentions:
Epic Mickey 3 and Epic Donald
Haunted Mansion Animated Series
Kingdom Hearts Animated Series
Kingdom Of The Sun (Emperors New Groove Prototype)
Maximum Horsepower (Horace Horsecollar In Space)
Monsters Inc 2
Princess Academy Short
Roald Dahl’s Gremlins Movie
Roger Rabbit 2: The Toon Platoon
The Shadow King (though that one might not be scrapped for long)
Untitled Muppet Halloween Special
The World According To Winnie The Pooh
Yellow Submarine Remake
Hold up.. Kingdom Hearts Animated Series? Never heard of that being a thing before being scrapped. I would have loved to see that.
If Gigantic would have still been made. I can see a human befriended a giant despite racism between the two species.
Geez.
That is one the main things that makes Gigantic being cancelled all the more.
Friday Cat would have been awesome. Also, Gigantic would have been too. A newer version of Jack and the beanstalk is something that would be nice.
For would love to see gigantic and Dumbo 2
I wish they'd make a movie for the Enormous Egg.
