Very illuminating teaching. How do you interpret תַּעֲרֹ֬ךְ לְפָנַ֨י׀ שֻׁלְחָ֗ן נֶ֥גֶד צֹרְרָ֑י Notice if שֻׁלְחָ֗ן is left out, it looks like a discription of battle such as 1 Samuel 17:2-21, where forms of ערך occur four times. נֶ֥גֶד means against, oopposite, across from. Before David was king while taking care of the sheep, he was called to the sacrifice and annointed. He had a very full life, his cup.
A wonderful lesson, but Isaiah also uses the expression"shadow of death" in 9:1 so this combination of merging two words while rare is not the only time it is employed as is suggested in minute 15. Rod and staff are also referred t4by Isaiah 10:15.
Rabbi, what you said about the first half of the psalm being about when we are in our weak moments vs the second half being about our strong moments is very interesting. I have a theory. Please tell me if I'm wrong about this, but I notice that it's only in the first half that God is referred to as "He", which makes sense because when we are in our weak moments, we are like the woman in the relationship, and the woman needs her man to protect her. But then in the second half when we are in our strong moments, God is no longer explicitly referred to as "He." So now it's like we're the man in the relationship, but the man still needs his woman to care for him. Am I way off?
