  • Safe and Sound - Psalm 23, from our study, Playlist, with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Albuquerque.
    MESSAGE SUMMARY
    Life is full of peaks and valleys, calm streams and roaring rapids. At times, it feels like there's nowhere to go. Though you may not know what will follow, you can know whom to follow. In this study of Psalm 23, Skip Heitzig points out that no matter what circumstances you face, when you follow God, you are safe and sound.

    I absolutely love this sermon. I have never in my life heard Psalms 23 explained with such comparisons. I was raised in the church, my grandfather was a minister. A few years ago, I lost my way. And I knew I did because of the type of trials I endured, and still endure. In the back of my mind I knew what I had to do but refused to call on him. Then one day we went to my in-laws home, they're ministers. Although we prayed, my heart still wasn't in it, BUT, I seen a shift the next day, and the day after that, and so on. In all honesty, it wasn't until I came across this video, this sermon, that I've begun to feel connected again. It was no coincidence that I stumbled across you Pastor Skip. God knew I was that lost sheep and led me to your sermon. I am forever grateful. Thank you Lord. Thank you Jesus. Pastor Skip, I pray that the Lord continues to bless you abundantly, may he continue to use you as a shepherd in order to help those, like me, who are lost. I thank him for instilling the wisdom and knowledge, of him, in you. Amen. I've been around many Pastors, whether online or in-person, no one was remotely close to what you just did. Thank you.

    My grandfather was a pastor. After my mother passed away I handed his Bible to his last living child, my aunt. However, prior to giving it to her, I gently leafed through the pages and found a 5x7 card with Psalm 23 ornately printed upon it. He must have thought it was important and I have made it a point to memorize that Psalm. What a blessing my grandfather gave me! The depths of meaning in that Psalm overwhelm me with the love, care and guidance God has for those who follow him. Thank you Skip for sharing your Godly insights.

      John 5:39 (KJV)
      Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
      Luke 24:
      25 ¶ Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
      26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
      27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
      32 ¶ And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
      44 ¶ And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
      45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
      46 ¶ And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day
      Acts 2:
      16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
      17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
      18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
      19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
      20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
      21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
      22 ¶ Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
      23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
      24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
      25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
      26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
      27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
      28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
      29 ¶ Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
      30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
      31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
      32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
      33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
      34 ¶ For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
      35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
      36 ¶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
      Acts 28:23 (KJV)
      And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into [his] lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and [out of] the prophets, from morning till evening.

    I use to attend at Calvary in Albuquerque off Ossuna Blvd , remember the Entertainment value and Pete Nelson and Skip, that’s when I was Of nondenominational Church, remember hearing a lot of how Catholics do this and that, I even totally agreed back then. Then 11 years ago I had a incredible encounter with God in the Catholic Church with being slain by the relic of the Cross , said these words , I would never become Catholic even at Calvary Church, Well now I am Catholic and no hard feelings but I am taught by Jesus one on one walk 10000 more full filling than I could ever imagine. Thanks be to God for living the Fullness Of His Truth. I pray for everyone at Calvary to never stop seeking the Truth. Love all. At 8:57 Skip mentioned like Sheep We all gone Astray like 40k different Astray, Churches that is. A beautiful lure with valid truths but still something inside not knowing the fullness and a missed encounter of the Father. Eyes solely on Jesus not the wind. Out of nothing but Love for you.

      Well, basically this message related to me in all ways! Iam a pet owner and that part stuck to me! Really clear! Second, I used to be a teacher aid and I understood how in these days is easy to push thing off to other things and people to keep kids busy! Third , the complaining! Once I was a complainer, so driving home one day I was telling the Lord how I didn’t have this or that, suddenly the Lord told to look at the curb! There was this man drinking water out the gutter and I heard the Lord say He has something to complain Haydee! So I can testify that what you said about complaining sheep! Love the porch scenario!, we just pass to another part of a house!!! This just an amazing sermon!

      45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
      46 ¶ And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day
      Acts 2:
      16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
      30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

    The key or qualifier of psalm 23 is one phrase, “THE LORD”. Every thing else depends on the relational meaning of LORD.
