I can almost guarantee that the first question, the instagram account, is a fake account made to impersonate her to draw people to a link, happens on instagram all the time
this is definitely what happened, the bots create an account with one letter or symbol different from your current username and they run a script to request all of your followers. it happened to me and a lot of people i know, they were all mortified but i didn't mind so much because i already had my own links on my page - i was more annoyed that they were trying to take my business haha.
it's really quite sweet and innocent of him to believe it was a real account and he was having a full on moral dilemma.
