    Hi Bud, you’ve been a great source of information during these transitional times. I’d like to see if possible, you take us through an edge driver change from a custom driver to an edge one, like how to update the Dome device so it will continue to work! Thanks for all your effort & timely information!

      I'll see if I can fit that in Dan. I've been thinking about doing that sort of video. I have several videos on which I am currently developing plus trying to hold down the day job. 😅 I threw together a quick update on Edge because I thought it important to get it out. Thanks for your suggestion! I'll see what I can do. 🙂

      Thanks Bud, I know we both use the Dome Siren & you had previously come out with a great video that saved the day enabling the different available sounds with the custom driver!

      Dan, It is not that difficult to install the Dome Edge Driver.
      1. Join the SmartThings Edge Beta channel with this link: api.smartthings.com/invitation-web/accept?id=450930c1-02a6-43d8-adaa-4cbc51027956
      2. Once clicking the link, sign into your Samsung Account and select Accept the Channel invite.
      3. Choose the target hub and select 'Enroll'.
      4. Select the Dome Edge Driver invitation using the following link which I provided in the video: tinyurl.com/3jmb77m5
      5. Select 'Enroll'.
      6. Click on “Available Drivers” and select “Install” to install the Dome Driver.
      7. You can verify the installed driver by going to your app, click on your Hub, and select the ellipsis, and click on the word “Driver” in the dropdown list. (Note: You can also ‘Enable’ additional Edge Driver in this menu now that your hub is enrolled.)
      8. In your app, add a dummy device in each of your Dome Siren routines and then delete the Dome device from every routine. (This ensures that your routines are not erased when you delete your Dome Siren).
      9. Delete your Dome.
      10. Go into the exclusion utility and exclude your Dome from your ST Hub, (hold pairing button until the device begins to flash. You may need to do this a couple of times to exclude).
      11. Add your device back into ST by tapping scan nearby.
      12. Once the App discovers your device, click on the ellipsis to confirm it now list "Driver" in the dropdown menu.
      13. Add Dome back into your routines.
      14. DONE!

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  2 года назад

      No, just because they’re on the Z wave alliance page does not necessarily mean that they are ST edge compatible. Here is the SmartThings community page with an edge driver link for a couple of your Inovelli switches: community.smartthings.com/t/new-edge-driver-for-inovelli-gen1-dimmers-nzw31-and-inovelli-gen1-switch-nzw30/240235

      Just search for your model number in the SmartThings community for additional edge drivers

    Great video Bud, I have a question. I have three Zwave Switches . An Edge Z-wave driver was loaded to my hub via the migration. However, only one Z-wave switch has the new Z-wave driver. All three switches are the same device model. Does it take some time to load to all devices or could this be an issue.

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  2 года назад +1

      Hi Mr Huron. I have seen this issue mentioned on the ST Community. The conventional wisdom is that the other "same device model" will be migrated in time. It would seem that they would all be migrated at the same time, but apparently that is not the case.

    Hi Bud, I installed the Dome edge driver for a dome siren I just bought through your affiliate link and the siren and chime are taking about 15 to 20 seconds after an automation to be triggered. I have changed all settings but still does the same, even after uninstalling, excluding and reinstalling. Is the dome siren really compatible with Smartthings? If so, what I'm I doing wrong?

      Hi Winston,
      I seem to recall that I had some delay after I first installed the driver. Give it a day and see if it improves. Mine is very responsive. Here are my setting for the door chime routine:
      Set Chime Sound: 4. Chime
      Set Chime Volume: Medium
      Set Chime LED: ON
      Set Chime Repeat: 1
      Chime: { NOT SET }
      all the other settings... { NOT SET }
      Hope this helps. Please let me know...

      One other thought... Depending on where you setup out dome you may need to repair your Z-Wave network. To do this, open your SmartThings App/ Find your Smart Hub in the Devices Tab/ Tap on your Hub and while in the devices screen click on the ellipsis in the upper right-hand corner. Tab on 'Settings' / Tap on 'Z-Wave Utilities' / Tap on 'Repair Z-wave Network'. Let me know if this does the trick!

    So I primarily use GE ZWAVE and ZWAVE + light switches. Should I be concerned?

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  2 года назад

      Hi Doug. As I stated in the current episode, as long as you are using standard ST device type handlers (DTH's) you should be fine. I have two different types of GE Z-Wave switches. Both as I recall are manufactured by Jasco/GE. The one that controls my family room light is a dimmer switch and is using the standard "Dimmer" DTH. The one in the kitchen is a regular 3-way switch. I converted the kitchen switch to Edge just to test the responsiveness. I used the "Z-wave Switch" Edge Driver. I haven't messed with the family room light as it will eventually be converted by the ST developers. Bottom line, if you are not using Custom DTH then I would not be overly concerned. If my opinion changes, I'll let you know.

      @@BudsSmartHome thank you for the reply. I tried checking the driver like you said but they don’t show anything. Also I am a rookie when it comes to smart things. I used a WINK hub forever. How can I tell if I am using standard ST device type handlers?

    Hi Bud ! 🙂 Was just watching this one again, to refresh my brain, and wondered why SmartThings is so powerful, yet it can't detect no name "smart" LED bulbs I've purchased off of Amazon in the past year. I have a handful of lights that just do not show up in my SmarTThings app, but DO get picked up by my Alexa app ( both apps here are on my phone, just to be clear ) I have 2 bulbs in my kitchen that Alexa sees without a problem. I control them with my voice via my Echo Dot or Echo Show without a problem. I am 99% sure these LED smart bulbs are NOT Zigbee devices, so is that the reason why ? and does that mean they will never work with SmartThings ? Thanks for replying when you have time, I appreciate it Bud ! 😊

      My guess is that they are either WIFI or Bluetooth devices. Both devices can be controlled by SmartThings if you use a virtual switch to control them. The status of the virtual switch can be seen in both apps, so you write a routine in ST to turn the virtual switch on based on motion detected by a ST sensor. Then us the same switch as a trigger for a routine that you write in your Alexa App that says when virtual switch is turns on, turn the light bulb on. I did a video on this here: ruclips.net/video/9Oyg7-Ip2a8/видео.html You do not want to use the virtual devices specified in the referenced video. Rather you want accept the invitation to TAustin's VEdge Creator api.smartthings.com/invitation-web/accept?id=cc2197b9-2dce-4d88-b6a1-2d198a0dfdef and create a Virtual Contact Sensor and use the open / closed status within the two apps to control your bulbs. Information on the virtual devices here: community.smartthings.com/t/st-edge-vedge-creator-a-virtual-device-generator-for-end-users/231786/287?filter=summary

      @@BudsSmartHome Good morning Bud ! 😊 Thanks very much for the ever so detailed reply ! I will now go and watch that video. P.S. I will chalk up my previous Amazon purchases for smart plugs as experience, and will learn from that. I will not purchase any plug and lights in the future that are not ZigBee enabled. I'd like to just keep stuff nice and neat going forward. Thankfully my smart bulbs work well at this point, but I will make better choices in the future. Off to watch your video ! Thank you !

    After the changes with edge, drivers and matter will become definitive, is there any chance to have a solution for virtual switches in the future, maybe also for those like Alexa switch with a sensor sametime?

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  2 года назад +1

      I've replace my virtual switches used to trigger Alexa routines. I am using a vEdge Creator: Virtual Device Generator that was created by TAustin on the ST Community: tinyurl.com/4ja277y2 When installed on your ST App, you can create various virtual switches. I have found that the virtual contact switch will be discovered by the Alexa app when created. If you have not already done so, follow the link in the description of my video to join the ST Beta program. Then enroll in Austin's Edge Driver Channel to acquire his drivers by going here: tinyurl.com/ycknz3hv Follow his instructions to create a few virtual contact switches and use them to replace the Virtual Alexa switches that are in your current routines.

      @@BudsSmartHome Thanks Bud, I am reading that TAustin's Edge drivers can be used to trigger presence detection locally when the phone connects to my Wifi but I am not understanding how to set it up. I want my daughter's and tenant's phones to be able to trigger presence for arming/disarming but I don't want to give them access to my ST app. Any ideas or can you make a video explaining it?

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  2 года назад +1

      @@Simplysky. - There is no way I know of doing this within SmartThings (ST) without inviting your tenant's and daughter as members in your app, which I doubt you want to do as it gives them access to all your devices within ST. There are other ways, like using Life 360, however you tenants will likely not want to give you the ability to track their geolocation within Life 360. My recommendation is that you control access via a smart lock or smart dead bolt lock. You can then enable or revoke access and disable you security whenever someone with authorized access enters your home. I releasing a video on a smart dead bolt lock this coming Thursday that may be of interest to you. It has a keypad and a fingerprint reader.

    • @Simplysky.
      @Simplysky. 2 года назад

      @@BudsSmartHome Thanks! I have been looking at the deadbolt and that could work. We just need one simple one for the garage (shared entrance). If it can trigger an automation based on fingerprint that solves everything but expensive. Right now, I am controlling the tenant's presence sensing with a vibration sensor attached to an older garage door opener that is not hooked in. When she uses her remote, it just turns the motor and the vibration triggers an automation to open the actual garage door and flips her presence sensor to off or on. Makeshift solution till something better comes along.
