Bud, I Wonder if this SmartThings Hub device supports the device's eufy doorbell camera push ring able to set up an ALERT Automation to notify the flasher to notify that someone rings the bell for the deaf and can adjust how many flashes? what model products are SmartThings Hub? Do you have instructions on how?
As per this article, ( tinyurl.com/4fsek85f ) Eufy chose not to partner with ST. Instead, "they focused on integrating their cameras with Apple HomeKit."this said, assuming that devices become matter compatible, eventually, they should operate via any of the smart home hubs. It may be a while before this happens, however.
Thank you for the video. Let's say I enroll in the Beta program, add/install all the drivers that I need for all my devices that required device handlers. If I were to unenroll from Beta, afterwards, would I lose my newly installed drivers? I ask because I really don't like the idea of ST writing code Willy Neely on my hub at their whim. I just want to be able to install the drivers for my several devices that require them, and get Samsung and Smartthings off my business, or as much as possible . Is that possible? Thank you in advance for your response.
Thank you for your question. SmartThings has fully completed migration a few months back and announced the completion. This would exclude any devices that may require a Custom Edge Driver supplied by a Manufacture. Therefore your hub should have been updated to Edge Driver seamlessly, in the background. Here is an article I urge you to read: community.smartthings.com/t/groovy-to-edge-device-migration-list/254854 Note in the article that you can confirm if your device is using a Lua Edge driver by checking out the steps here: support.smartthings.com/hc/en-us/articles/9339624925204-Platform-Transition-FAQ#How%20will%20I%20know%20my%20device%20has%20been%20migrated%20to%20an%20Edge%20driver?
For the sake of the question, please let's assume that all devices that require device handlers are disconnected from their original SmartThings hub (and were disconnected early last year) and that they are going to need to be connected to a new hub now. The new hub is the Aeotec white square one, not the wifi router one or the black one that includes a charger. So my question is: can I register the new hub to Beta, find and install the Edge drivers I need (hoping I will find them) and then unregister from Beta without losing my drivers or their functionality? Is that possible? Thank you.
@@G-P-E-N - There are no longer any “device handlers” or "custom device handlers" on any compatible ST hub. Eligible ST hubs, to include V2, V3, Aeotec and the new ST Station, have been seamlessly transitioned to Lua Edge Drivers. Devices that are listed in the ST app as “compatible” have already been assigned a “stock” edge driver. Devices that are not listed as compatible need a “custom edge driver" to function properly within the LUA Edge environment. Custom edge drivers are written to give an incompatible device the capability to work within the Lua Edge architecture. However, they are also created to provide additional capabilities to a device which are not made available by a stock edge driver. Custom edge drivers are created by ST Community members, ST Developers and also be the device manufactures. Drivers from the “SmartThings Drivers (Beta)” channel are “stock edge drivers”, similar to the former “stock device handlers”. The majority of ST compatible devices should have already been transitioned by ST to your ST V2 hub and assigned a "stock edg driver". As stated in the previous link I sent, you can verify transitioned drivers by opening your ST app, find you hub, tap on your hub, tap on the three dots in the upper right corner, tap on the word “Driver”, and view all of the drivers and driver channels that have been installed on your hub. So, to your question, “can I register the new hub to Beta”, find and install the Edge drivers I need (hoping I will find them) and then unregister from Beta without losing my drivers or their functionality?” • Yes, you can register • Yes, you can seek and install edge drivers, but it should not be necessary because all ST compatible devices should already be assigned a stock edge driver from either the SmartThings Drivers (Beta) or another approved driver channel • Yes, you can seek drivers for incompatible devices or devices that have reduced functionality. Such devices would require a Custom Edge Driver. Certain custom drivers may or may not be available but you can request them via the ST Community. • Yes, you can download drivers to your hub, but you cannot remove a driver assigned to an installed device unless you first remove the driver from the installed device or you delete the device that is assigned to the downloaded driver. Just like a vehicle cannot operate without a driver (negating self-driving cars here), a device cannot operate without the proper edge driver. Note: With a new hub you would simply add devices and assuming the device you are adding is a compatible device, the appropriate edge driver should be automatically assigned and the device will function appropriately. If you install a device and the device fails to function, then it is likely an incompatible device that would require that you seek an appropriate custom edge driver and you would then need to download that driver to your hub. I hope this helps.

The edge drivers are part of the new LUA architecture. If your smart devices would not be converted to edge drivers then they would stop working once the Groovy IDE is shut down. Just curious if there is something with ST I'm not aware of. Thanks.
Mike, My routines are still working wonderfully, but I did have a bit of blip following a ST update. Humor me by checking your routines and make sure that under the "If" section all member phones are still listed. I needed to add my wife's device back in following a recent ST update. Not sure why the update removed the device from several of my established routines. Also, verify that all of the permissions are still enabled in the ST App and in your phone settings. Finally, assuming you installed an iOS update recently, shut down your phone completely, wait 10 seconds and restart your phone and see if that makes your devices discoverable.

This is the new architecture going forward. If the device manufacture or developer updates the driver it will auto-update on your hub. Matter is a separate thing. Hello Dan. If you wait until Samsung converts your dome siren it will likely be converted to a stock device type handler, which means that it’ll have limited functionality. You can always upgrade it to a ledge driver at any point in the future.
Hi thanks so much for this video. The invitation link doesn't seem to work for me. Any ideas why?
I assume you’re referring to the dome siren driver? Try I the link from my website in the following article. www.budshomeautomation.com/post/how-to-install-smartthings-edge-drivers-for-the-dome-siren
You do have to sign into your SmartThings account in order to connect to the channel.
Hi Bud, Mike Morehouse here. Have you noticed any location based ST automations not working recently? We were traveling for 3 weeks and since we got home not of the routines that use our Samsung phones as presence sensors work as they did before we left. Nothing in automations has changed.
@@BudsSmartHome Bud, thanks for reply. I checked good bye and I'm back routines on both our Samsung S10 phones. BOTH required to be away for goodbye routine to trigger and I'm back triggers if ANY is at home. We were traveling for 3 weeks so there was a ST app update I hadn't updated but did that. Permissions are unchanged and set to allow all the time. I'll watch what happens over the next few days when we both leave and see if the routines trigger. I'll be back in touch.
@@mikemorehouse4641 - Sounds good Mike!
Bud, I checked the location mode on both my and my wife's phones when we were well outside the 150m radius from our house and they only showed HOME, never away. Do you think I need to delete our home location and then re add it back to see if that fixes the issue?
@@mikemorehouse4641 -that’s certainly worth a try. If that doesn’t work, maybe you can DM me your routines assuming that they’re different from the ones that I gave on my phone presence video. Did you watch that video?
Well done with excellent content, thank you.
Glad you found it helpful Bob. Thanks 🙏
Hi Bud ! hope all is well with you ! I have a question ..... my new Aqara P1 sensor went offline a couple of days ago... the app on my phone says it's offline, and also when I log into devices on my Samsung account, the device also says it's OFFLINE. Now, I do know that the Aeotech hub is working fine, because my Aquara door sensor still works OK. At this point, what do I do ? ... if I remove the device from my app, that means my routine I made for it is now deleted also.... so is there a way to "wake up" the P1 sensor by doing something ? I just tried pressing the little "pairing" button on the P1 sensor to see if that would wake it up, but it didn't. So at this point I'm stumped. Thanks for any help Bud ! it's much appreciate !! 🙂
Hi Frosty. Not Sure. You may want to ask the ST Community: community.smartthings.com/
@@BudsSmartHome Good morning Bud, ok thanks for the reply and your honesty, I will indeed ask, thank you for your time !
@@BudsSmartHome Happy Saturday Bud ! I just wanted to thank you for pointing me to that forum, I asked my question the other day, and within 10 mins somebody answered it with amazing info ! So now it's up and running again ! -- All I had to do is go into my SmarTThings app on my phone, click the PLUS button, and choose "scan for device" and then "scan for nearby devices" as I did this, I pressed the little pairing button the back of the sensor, and bingo it just re-connected it !!! Awesome ! Thanks again for your help Bud !
@@FrostyTheBeerMan - Glad that you got it up and running again Frosty. Yes the folks on the ST forum are very helpful.

Hi Bud ! This is an excellent video, Thank you for doing this ! I am on the link you provided and have enrolled in the beta program for EDGE drivers. I'm on their page and am confused. I have the new Aqara P1 sensor, how do I see if there is a new EDGE driver available for my P1 sensor ? Thank you Bud ! ( There are so many options, and I'm 100% confused ) thanks for any help Bud !
I'm just guessing her, but assuming the model number of your Aqara P1 Sensor as model RTCGQ14LM, then the channel you should enroll in is here: account.smartthings.com/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fbestow-regional.api.smartthings.com%2Finvite%2F8b2Ay0rKX2ve%3F
The Edge Driver that you want to enroll is either the "Zigbee Sensors Edge Driver [YG] 1.8.14" or "Zigbee Thing [YG] v1.0.2"
If you want to be sure, go to the ST Community thread here: community.smartthings.com/t/st-edge-beta-xiaomi-aqara-tuya-zigbee-sensors-driver/234709 and ask the developer Yakov Gerlovin which driver is correct for your device.
@@BudsSmartHome Good morning Bud ! - you ARE The MAN ! - I followed what you said, and I got it working ! and it works flawlessly ! For the first time, my SmartThings app is populated with the correct name of the device ( it added it 100% automatically ! ) and, the info on the info tab is also working and correct. This is beyond insane ! I am so happy ! Thank you ! BTW you give so much detailed info, and I understand and appreciate it takes time to do so. Your channel should be way up there, in the 100K region, truly, because your videos are not sped up, you don't gloss over info, and you always assume your viewer is new to this stuff ( and that is the mark of a good instructor ! )
That’s great Frosty. I’m glad you’re up and running ”flawlessly”. I also appreciate your kind remarks. Thanks!
@@BudsSmartHome Hi Bud ! 🙂 Thanks for the reply, and you're welcome ! - Quick question ! - That driver that I did install from the link you gave me, ... so that I'm clear, these are EDGE drivers right ? and they work within the new MATTER "balloon" or under the MATTER umbrella kind of thing ? ... and .... these drivers, is this how EDGE drivers will exist in the future ? or now ? it will be programmer guys and gals that provide the public with these drivers .... or will the companies eventually make their own verified / authentic drivers for devices ( like my Aqara P1 sensor ) ? I'm a bit, or really fuzzy on that part of it all. Thanks again Bud ! ( see this also makes a good reason to make up another noobies video for us dummies out there ) ( that would be me ) Thanks again for your expertise !!
Frosty: Yes, they are Edge Drivers, which means they are installed on your hub giving you local control without the need of an internet cloud connection. Local control for faster execution. This is the new architecture going forward. If the device manufacture or developer updates the driver it will auto-update on your hub.
Matter is a separate thing. Devices that comply with the matter standard will be compatible with different platforms, meaning Matter compliant devices will work with Apple Home Kit, SmartThings, Google Home etc. SmartThings in among some the first home automation companies to implement Matter for its devices. Going to Edge with Lua based Drivers is one of the steps executed by ST toward the goal of implementing the Matter standard. Here is a video that better explains the goal of the transition to the Matter standard: ruclips.net/video/-g4S4jAW9VE/видео.html Hope this helps??
Good God..... start from 07:30.
