To each his own. I'll just wash my frying pan with soap and water and reuse it. Old frying pans are best because they're seasoned or cured, meaning they will be stick- resistant, non corrosive and they heat easily. This process takes a long time or years so once you reached that point, never throw that pan away.

Great idea for recycling old pans! I have several that would work really well including an old wok.
The rope trick was genius threading the cord through.
I wonder if you could thread a soft metal rod or thick wire through the rope to make a desk lamp that bends, it would look really cool as you would only see the rope supporting the light.

Dan Young metal like in a frying pan is valuable as it can be melted down and put to another use. No company would ever just discard something like it for the sake of throwing it out. Furthermore the pan has wasted potential in the video. It could go and be melted down for something with purpose, but instead it’s being turned into a crappy lamp shade.

I am not of an engineering mind, but I do have a 2 genius son's whom are kept busy and increase their contribution to this wasteful planet by the development of great ideas being resourceful. I was taught in the Military to take inventory of your resources and "adapt and overcome", this man is clearly employing all of his resources for a challenge and well intended purpose. He is amazing. No, that teflon coating is *not* toxic.
You've been reading too many scare stories promulgated by conspiracy theorists and crackpot pseudo-experts in health and nutrition.
Just think for one moment: if teflon _were_ toxic then then entire population of the non-stick pan using, developed world would be showing symptoms of acute PTFE poisoning by now as it's been used to make non-stick cookware since 1961.

I don’t really know what will be cheaper, to just buy a shade of 10$ from Walmart,or, to buy all these tools and spend so much time.
Recycling is good, wonderful, I too at home try my best to recycle; but, then, maybe for a person like the demonstrator who must be good in these things and have some tools at home, but, for someone like me who doesn’t know difference between a nail and a screw; in order of saving an old frying pan, I spend more in buying tools, paints, etc; is something to think if worth while; not to mention the time, if I was retired, maybe, hey, a fun way of passing the time,

    • @peters5599

Sukayna Nathani I’m just retired and I think if I spent a week converting an old frypan - not quite the sort of thing I have piling up around the place - I’d sort of wonder “why did I retire”?

Miss Elmyra . A word of caution , this build is a major electrocution and fire risk , it has no ground wire on the metal parts , rope will overheat with current surge , he has used two core wire , it should be three core to provide a ground to metal , and the fixing to the ceiling will not be sufficient to hold the weight of the body and lamp holder , safety first most important . Please be aware of the major mistakes this person has made , take advice from any electrician please . To prove my point for your own and your families safety please .
