It is primarily used as a storage facility for the tenants and the county at NRG Park," said Beth Wiedower Jackson, the executive director for the Astrodome Conservancy. She says it cannot be torn down because it has national and state historic protections.Feb 5, 2021
The Astrodome groundskeepers had a hard time that first season because the people who designed the stadium had put in a grass surface under the dome and felt the sunlight coming in through the dome would let it grow. Then what happened was the outfielders couldn't see the balls in the sun coming through so they had to paint over the panels in the dome, but then that had the chain reaction of causing the grass to die! So that is the reason why "Astroturf" was invented.
Fun fact:....several weeks after the airing of this episode of TTTT, the Astros installed the new AstroTurf because the grass field was dying due to lack of sunlight from the newly installed off white panels on its roof...
The panel was hot. Orson ruined a perfect evening. The Astrodome was where homeruns went to die. Their first big power hitter Jimmy "The Toy Cannon' Wynn hated the place.

Donald Day, author of "Will Rogers: A Biography," would have been a more interesting person to find out about than the chief groundskeeper of the Astrodome, in my opinion.
Donald Day, an author and editor who wrote or compiled biographies of Will Rogers, three American Presidents and other historical figures, died on July 22 at the Mediplex Nursing Home in Westport, Conn. He was 92 years old.
July 22 of what year, may I ask? I'm glad that he had such a long life--and hope that most of it was spent in good health. In this episode from 1965, he already seems to be "an old man." So, I find it ironic that so many of the much younger people who appeared on the first version of TTTT predeceased him, sometimes by many years. And I reiterate that he would have made a more interesting contestant than the Astrodome Chief Groundskeeper.
I wonder what that comic book collection would be worth today.

Those comic books would be worth a lot more $ today.

Didn't know they made the ground crew wear that crazy costume. Ridiculous
What a shame they let the Astrodome fall into the disrepair that it is today :(
who is 'they?"
@@CowSaysMooMoo Whoever is in control of the astrodome now. I guess maybe either private owners or the city.
Of course the Katrina hurricane victims loved the Astrodome.
Contestant #2 is the mother of Archbishop of Canterbury.
Wow he looks like a spaceman!

I Wonder how many of those Astrodome facts are still true today.
Man #1 in Game #1
Lady #1 in Game #2
Young Man #1 in Game #3

Interesting that all three real contestants were seated as number 1. Even more amazing is that 11 of the 12 panel votes went for number 1.
The fix is in
SPOILER: All three real contestants were in the same spot.
