    As a former MUFON investigator, it's so interesting to see Hynek cautiously playing on the side with the government during this time. He soon went against them and admitted, he was told to play this entire subject down with ridiculous explanations such as 'swamp gas'. He went from shill to hero in years!!
    The term "UFO" (unidentified flying objects) originated by a USA think-tank called Project Blue Book (to keep this phenomenon ambiguous) while the term "Flying Saucer" was earlier coined by pilot Kenneth Arnold in 1947 (weeks prior to the Roswell Incident(s))
    Keep looking up!

    • @billanthony7896
      @billanthony7896 6 лет назад +1

      LisaDawnn- "Flying Saucer" was coined by the press. All Arnold said was that the objects he observed, moved like saucers skipping across water.

    • @milky55way2012
      @milky55way2012 6 лет назад +1

      Kenneth Arnold didn't coin the phrase, it was a reporter who did that.....Arnold said they looked like "saucers" skipping across the sky. Project Bluebook was hardly a "thinktank", since the most interesting cases were left out of the study intentionally, this fact was later discovered by researchers using a FOIA request. Bluebook was intentionally a deception to quell public interest in the subject of UFOs.

    It's very ironic that Peggy would have asked who Long John Nebel was in a spot where Barry Farber was appearing as an imposter because by that point in time the two of them were in direct competition with each other for the overnight talk radio audience! Barry was on WOR and Nebel (who specialized in off-beat subjects) was by this point on WNBC.

      Yeah I used to listen to him on the radio back in the 1970s and 80s, I also listened to Long John Nebel (and his wife Candy Jones) who they mentioned, interestingly I remember listening to Barry Farber in the 80s (or maybe early 90s) and his guest on one of his shows was Orson Bean, Orson said he had been very depressed (even suicidal) bc he couldn't get work but then he recovered from his depression, and in recent years I have seen him on some TV shows.

    Hynek sounded quite open to the possibility that UFO's were really alien. I thought he had been a staunch debunker until some years after the date of this show.

    • @carlgrove8793
      @carlgrove8793 4 года назад +6

      Hynek was fairly open-minded by this time. The Socorro case impressed him and a few years later after the Condon fiasco and Blue Book was shut down he wrote an excellent article for Flying Saucer Review describing how his thinking had evolved. He wasn't committed to any particular theory, he viewed the alien theory as just one of several.

      D Arnold You're welcome! It is a bit strange, I agree. None of the 3 big Goodson-Todman panel shows ever increased the prize money during the CBS years (TTTT, What's My Line and I've Got a Secret). WML and IGAS were never about the prize money, which was always paltry, but TTTT had major money at stake, so you'd think that in the course of a ten year run they'd have considered increasing the prizes at some point.

    The USA government is probably still lying about UFOs. You can almost imagine that Orson Bean was an alien from space. He was a different breed of cat. The 1964-65 World's Fair was great. our family had to wait in line for hours for some exhibit but it was worth it. Kitty actually took a drink of water. She has caught the water drinking from Tom and Orson.
