Seems like most people are disagreeing but I’m 17 years older than my little sister and definitely there is a similar energy. I even kept thinking about her through the movie. I guess most people have sibling around their age, which I also do, so they can’t relate to that.
@@matheusp572 I can definitely see the older sibling younger sibling energy. My brother is 12 years older than me and this is definitely something I can relate to. When the age difference is that big it's like having a young parent - but also someone you can mess with. Like how they're pulling each other's leg the whole time but also sweet things like how Paul brushes the crumbs of her pants before the next course or opens the can or tells her to eat over the plate.
I genuinely believe Aftersun would not have been as strong of a film if these two had not spent a few weeks prior to filming just getting to know one another. It evokes a natural chemistry that can only come from real, unscripted experiences, and it helped bolster the relationship between these two that we see throughout the film. They’re acting during the film, obviously, but it comes across as so effortlessly natural because that bond has already been established beforehand. It was an incredibly smart decision on Charlotte Wells’ part.
The fact that they ate from each other's utensils, drank from each other's cans, all while being helpful towards each other is the best father daughter bond created by non related actors ever! There chemistry is through the roof and I love it! 😭 So wholesome!!
Man, watching this interview, it's no wonder they both broke my heart in Aftersun. Their ease with one another is obvious. Even here they have so much father-daughter energy, with him brushing crumbs off her pants and Frankie being giggly and hyper and daring him to eat the gross food. It's no wonder they were both so natural in the movie, and that's what made it so sad in the end. Another commenter mentioned this but watching this interview is a good palate cleanser after the movie. Paul absolutely deserves his oscar nom, and Frankie completely blew me away as well. I hope she has a long career. Also, good lord the UK has horrible snacks. 😭
Paul is absolutely correct - haggis out of a can is ... not something one would choose to eat. Proper haggis is, however, delicious - when it's hot. Same for stew. Very cut-price affair, this!
so glad aftersun is finally screening in the philippines soon, been waiting to watch these two on the big screen !! though im not prepared to have my heart completely shattered again, it still hasnt healed from the first time i saw the film
The dad vibes Paul is giving off in this. "Just eat it over the plate." Brushing crumbs off her leg. "Can I make a spoon for you?" "That's...use VERY sparingly!" Opening the cans and jars for her. "When the cameras turn off, we will fight to the death." My actual heart, they are so cute.
What a SENSATIONAL MOVIE! Both Paul and Frankie give such amazing performances. It would be extremely unfair if this film doesn’t get at least nominated for Best Film at the Oscars.
