They did a exceptionally good job. Compared to the piano-roll/midi versions of this idea, however, I can see this being slightly easier to get sounding good. The main reason is piano-roll shows all 12 chromatic notes equally, where as sheet music gets locked into a single 7 note key. So although lots of work went into this, probably more than the standard midi ones, not needing to choose between connectivity and harsh chromaticism is at least one benefit.
This song is kinda like a story about the cat’s life. At the start, the song is energetic and playful. Then it begins to be calm and slower and it eventually dies out with a happy tone at the end.

The arms of the notes have nothing to do with the sound actually being made. So it’s basically a drawing simply traced over with notes. It doesn’t matter where they put the notes as long as it kind of matches the overall shape
You know, when people usually do experimental stuff like this, the resulting music usually sounds awful but not this time. This was genuinely wonderful.
While the score look like a cat a lot of detail of the image here are just ornamentation, some lines doesn't represent anything as music score. It's still a challenge to make it sound good.
This is exactly what I'd expect to hear watching one of those kitten shows where the narrator narrates the kittens from really little to when they get adopted out.

I know you don't mean it but to compare this to anything Disney is like saying that the greatest works of art are like batheoom tissue to be employed for the same purpose. Lol. This is an original score and original art and the very idea of putting the two disciplines together in this way, and for the purpose of honoring a friend now gone is a unique and brilliant accomplishment! Disney is nothing like this. It will always crush real creativity in favour of pleasing the masses with the hackneyed and formulaic, the predictable and expected. None of it original, the art or the music. And then Disney puts his name to it. Its mass appeal does the job of raking in the most dollars possible and its mediocrity is what the most magical and creative among us (the children, with their vast and unbound imaginations) see as artistic, and the style (!) to which they strive to copy, their own creativity stifled by inescapable images of the carefully planned product the goal of which we know all too well. (hint: $$$) This is all I wanted to say, and I hope that I haven't come across as being against you, personally, in any way. I know and understand your statement. I just want to point out that the stuff that Disney and his company had done is very different than what is presented in this piece. And the more I find out about the man and his empire, the more I see him as not just a businessman obliterating children's imaginations, but a man of very questionable mores and politics. Disney is nothing like this. It will always crush real creativity in favour of pleasing the masses with the hackneyed and formulaic, the predictable and expected. None of it original, the art or the music. And then Disney puts his name to it. Its mass appeal does the job of raking in the most dollars possible and its mediocrity is what the most magical and creative among us (the children, with their vast and unbound imaginations) see as artistic, and the style (!) to which they strive to copy, their own creativity stifled by inescapable images of the carefully planned product the goal of which we know all too well. (hint: $$$)
This is all I wanted to say, and I hope that I haven't come across as being against you, personally, in any way. I know and understand your statement. I just want to point out that the stuff that Disney and his company had done is very different than what is presented in this piece. And the more I find out about the man and his empire, the more I see him as not just a businessman obliterating children's imaginations, but a man of very questionable mores and politics.
