Commissioner Lee and his successor Hui both passed years ago. I had lived in Happy Valley in the 90s and I had met Lee and mrs.Lee a few times in a small family restaurant in HV; life is very short for all of us! Tempus fugit, that was almost 30 years ago!
Fun fact: Actor Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) once considered joining the Royal Hong Kong Police back in the 1980s. It was mentioned in the Fry and Laurie reunion TV special some time ago.
I wish it was not a joke when the inspection began and they played the Taiwanese "patriotic song" - The Dragon's Inheritances 龙的传人,.....this is absurd. ..
David Fang It was not a joke, the British always try to fuse Chinese element into the force as a show of respect. The British officer back in the colonial era always try to speak Cantonese, a stark contrast to what the Beijing new master is doing right now - forcing Hong Kongese to speak their Putonghua and never give a damn to Cantonese, not even trying to speak it.
好掛念從前的皇家警察

沉默 !自求多福!享清福了!很多已到外国享家庭樂了!感恩!
The proper marches the band played in those days were much better than the crappy patriotic Chinese marches they play nowadays.
My friend, any music derived from a scale with only 5 notes are reasonably crappy if nothing else!
The minstrel boy was a decent march with lots of history behind it
Pi236 marched off September 83
Well said mate
