This is exactly what I love to read, it just warms my heart 🥰, I hope they taste just like you remember and with just give ya soul a big ol’hug! Thank you for sharing this, love it 🥰🤗
My Great Uncle and Aunt lived on a 600 acre farm in SE Missouri.. old Germans.. Everything was served in a cream sauce gravy.. rabbit, squirrel, dear, and goats.. but all vegetables, except for tomatoes which you ate breakfast, lunch and dinner in the summer ❤️❤️❤️
Hey gravy makes almost everything better lol! 😂 That is very interesting, but I love stories like this, different food, different cultures in different regions, fascinate me. Thank you for sharing 🤗🥰
My Grandma made these with pearl onions and peas. I loved these as a kid. Brings back memories of Sunday dinners with cream potatoes with pearl onions and peas. That was a long time ago.
And while that is such a simple supper, it was probably one of your favorites and that’s what I love about this dish simple but so delicious! I’m so glad it brought back good memories for you. That makes me smile!!! 🤣🤗
We were a family of 6. My mom was born and raised in Tennessee. My mom just cooked the potatoes with onions, she did not add milk or flour. When that was all we had for dinner she would cut up a couple of hot dogs in with the potatoes. I’m going to make this soon. Very excited to have this recipe. I am close to 80 years old. Thank you so much. 😊
You are very welcome, I’m so glad it brought back a precious memory for you! I’ve also had them without milk when we didn’t have any, the starch water does thicken them, I’ve also had them in a little chicken broth, simple goodness. I am also from a family of 6 and honey I get it, we had some creative meals, but momma made everything taste good and we had no clue we didn’t have much because what we didn’t have on a plate she made up for with love, wonderful memories, bless you for watching and sharing 🥰🤗
In our family in the 50’s Mom called this type of recipe, shanty house potatoes. She flavored ours with bacon grease as well! Yum! Having potatoes every day as a kid, I got so sick of eating boiled potatoes, so I would doctor those by adding lots of butter, pepper, and chopped onion after I mashed them up on my plate.
Aww, I’m so very sorry you lost your mom! When you are missing her the most maybe you can make you a bowl and just feel her love🥰 Thank you for watching and sharing…big hugs 🤗🥰
My Mom used to make this in the 40's and 50's...coming out of the war and not having much for meals due to rationing and finally getting all products back in the grocery stores...there were 6 of us and Mom HAD to stretch the meals. We ate it with bacon or sauage ( very little bacon or sausage) in it , it was our meal with bread and butter on the side!!!! Sometimes she made biscuits!! She was the BEST cook and baker I have ever encountered over the years. I had to go to "gourmet" cooking school to find out Mom had the best, tastiest meals and they were inexpensive too!
Oh my goodness that is so true, moms meals were always the best and they still are 🥰 We also had limited money with a family of 6 but momma certainly could take a little bit of something and make fabulous meals! It was truly the simple ones that was so good. We used to say mom would squeeze a dollar so tight George would squeal lol 😂 Thank you so much for watching and sharing I appreciate it 🥰🤗
Can you imagine how hard it was for her 😢? Times were so tough and so many people struggled, my mom talks of how she would struggle trying to feed us on a very tight budget but me and my siblings didn’t have a clue, we were young and carefree living our best lives. I’m thankful for all the mommas that kept us alive. Thank you for sharing 🥰🤗
I grew up using a 1 quart mason jar to make the slurry. Add milk and four and shake until smooth. The mason jar has marks on the side for easy measuring.
Oh yes, I remember watching mom do that and honey you know I’ve got me a mason jar, I love it …thank you for bringing back that memory and sharing, big hugs 🤗 🥰
This was my Granny's go to. She never used milk or butter. She told me that during the depression, some days it was all she had to feed her family. If she could get a scrap of bacon or ham she would add that, but it was rare. Thank you for sharing.
Aww sweet memories for you 🤗 It always amazes me how such a simple dish can be sooooo good! My mom didn’t use all the new seasoning we have access to today, but her food was and is so good! Maybe it was all that love that was poured into their dishes, appreciate the share 🥰🤗
I think this was a wonderful recipe that so many people enjoyed because it was such cheap, dating back many generations ago. Im learning it also has many names 😊 Many thanks for watching and sharing 🥰🤗
In the South Creamed Potatoes and Mashed Potatoes are interchangeable terms. They are the same!! Stewed Potatoes are sometimes referred to as Thickening Potatoes by some old timers
I never had those. My Grandmother made Scalloped potatoes or Au Gratin, but these are something new to me. I grew up in the Great Lakes area, where did you live if I may ask?
From Arkansas, here! This is one of my favorite comfort foods. I love adding a little bacon grease when adding my milk & flour to the potatoes. My daughter always liked adding extra butter and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese to her bowl of stewed potatoes. It's so yummy!!!
Grew up in the Midwest. Since I'm Irish AND German, potatoes are my love language. My aunt often made Creamed Potatoes & Peas. These days, after decades, I still make them. It's a simple white sauce and it brings back many happy memories.
I have some Irish in me as well, those potatoes just call out to me, whispering sweet nothings 😂🤣 I absolutely get it!!! I have always love sweet peas with potatoes rather it was mashed potatoes or stewed potatoes. It just goes together like peanut butter and jelly, doesn’t it? I love to make a recipe that just takes me back home, it’s just a comfort to my soul. Many thanks for watching.🥰🤗
Listen, you know what some good eating is! These taters are delicious hanging out with some meatloaf! I would take meatloaf over a steak almost any day with some fried cabbage ohhhh weee , sooooo good!! I think I’ll be having some meatloaf and cabbage very soon beside these potatoes thank you for watching and dropping this goodness 😀🥰
@@Goodellsam yummo! My fav with stewed potatoes is fried pork chops, pinto beans and corn bread 😋. Had that one time at a small diner during lunch break years ago and has been a fav combo ever since.
@txsjohnny it can certainly be my entire meal, I love me some taters and adding the gravy, Lord it doesn’t get much better than that, some call it a side but it’s a meal for me 🥰🤗
My Granny was from Mississippi and called them creamed potatoes. I was so sick when I was pregnant with my first baby that Granny would cook that every day. I could only take about 3 bites but it kept me alive! I still make it as soon as the weather gets cool.
Oh my word yes, this is so good for sickness, momma always gave us potato’s coming off a stomach bug too and it helped us to get our “strength” back 😀 A potato really does just soothe ya soul and momma always seemed to know what to do for us 🥰My sister also had a lot of nausea with pregnancy so I know exactly what you’re talking about🤗 I love your name, big thanks for watching 🥰🤗
Wow South Africa that is amazing, many thanks to you for dropping in and sharing, it makes me smile 🥰 It is absolutely divine with cheese, it’s so versatile, it’s flavorful to stand alone or to add almost anything in, it comforts my soul. Many thanks for watching hugs from SC 🤗🥰
Lots of practice lol! 😂 We ate a ton of vegetables growing up and we canned food as well so potatoes, apples, rutabagas, you name it, I was gifted the chore of peeling it! Thank you 🥰
@@Rhondascountrykitchen I love it because it demonstrates great skill and awareness of the tool. Nicely done. Great recipe and great channel. You get a like and subscribe from me. Keep it real!
You have no idea of how happy you’ve made me. I’m 68 and my grandmother used to make these, but I had no idea how. She would always make a pone of cornbread that she would serve with the stewed potatoes. I’m going to make me some. Thank you!
Aww 🥰 now this makes me happy!!! I hope you make it and it’s just like your grandma made and it takes you right back to her table! It’s truly a comfort food for me, it just gives me all the good feels and takes ya right down memory lane 🥰 Thank you so much for watching and sharing..happy cooking 🥰🤗
We've always called this creamed potatoes. I first made this dish when I was nine years old, so I can testify to the fact that it is EASY. I can happily have nothing else but a bowl of these potatoes for a delicious meal - it's a meal made in heaven. (I was born in Georgia and have lived here most of my 80+ years.)
That is such a wonderful memory, I remember cooking with momma at a very young age too, some things we just don’t forget 🥰 I lived in Sylvester GA for a few years and people there loved taters all kind of ways 😀 Bless you for sharing, it makes my heart smile…big hugs 🥰🤗
This is my second time I’ve made these but I use chicken broth to cook them and this time I put a little shredded cheese in them and omg they were so good!!!! I’m in love with these stewed potatoes ❤❤❤ thank you for the recipe
You are so welcome, it just thrills my soul to read the feedback 🥰 it really is such a wonderful recipe and so easy and cheap as well and you just can’t beat that 😀 It is delicious cooking chicken broth, and Lord cheese makes everything better lol 😂 for super simple supper. I also like to add some smoked sausage like andouille or even a little crumpled, bacon and cheese, whew Lawd it hits different 😂 Thank you so much for the update 🥰🤗
@ your very welcome!! Adding sausage too it sounds amazing!!! I’m gonna try that next time I’m also gonna cook some for thanksgiving lol I want my family to try them haha 🤣 why not bring a giant bowl of stewed potatoes
I love stewed potatoes, my mom would make them on Sunday dinners, I'm from Missouri, a farm family we cook just like you Southerners, it's good old country cooking, yummy good! We sometimes put fresh garden peas in thier
Peas is sooooo good with them, the contrast of sweet and savory is divine 🙌 I sure enjoy seeing where everyone is from and what type of food they enjoy in the neck of the woods 😀 I love it that you eat a lot like we do here in the south! Thank you so much for watching 🥰🤗

You have made my heart smile, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! My hubby begged me for quite awhile to make videos and I always assumed most knew how to cook, I’m learning that a few videos have been helpful, and some recipes have been long forgotten, so if for me no other reason my grandchildren can one day look back and enjoy Gigi’s videos and that it will be worth it! Listen if I have a potato, noodles or bread, I’m gonna be all right lol, I’ve said it before I’m Carbie Barbie 😂😂😂

Lovely . I've never made it with flour. we have always used yellow corn meal everything else is the same recipe lol momma already called it mealy potato soup. And this was a go to when anyone was sick.. we used cayenne and white pepper. You brought back a great memory for me today, my mom's has been gone 9 years today. So than you very much.

Isn’t it wonderful how certain food brings back the most wonderful memories 😊 I’m so glad it took you down memory lane, bless you for watching and commenting, we thank you 😊 🙏🥰🤗
I know this is so good. My mom made it often here in Southeastern Kentucky. Another great recipe is Noodles and Tomatoes. Mom would cook elbow macaroni, drain it, add about a 14 oz. can of diced tomatoes or tomato sauce. She added sugar to taste. We liked it on the sweet side.
Yessssss honey macaroni and tomatoes is such a classic here as well. Growing up,with not a lot, this was an easy go to meal that fed a lot of mouths. I like it on the sweet side too, I enjoy using stewed maters that has some sugar, you know what’s good for sure! I’m gonna have to make this video! Thank you so much for sharing where you’re from, I love it 🥰 and I love seeing what everyone is eating in their neck of the woods 😉🥰
Macaroni and tomatoes still take me back home! We always fried a little bacon and onion first, then added the macaroni and tomatoes. Lots of black pepper made it even more delicious, and it was perfect to serve with black-eyed peas!
Oh honey that is the best, nothing like a slab of corn bread and some sweet tea with these taters or anything really lol! I noticed people from NC say creamed potatoes or thickened, is that where you’re from, just curious ? Big hugs from S.C. friend 🤗🥰
@@RhondascountrykitchenI live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I guess I call em thickened potatoes because that’s what my big mama called em. Guess it doesn’t matter what we all call em cause we all know they be good. Sending a hi👋 and blessings to a fellow thickened potatoes lover👍
I have been eating this since I was just little. It's almost the only way my grandmother would cook potatoes. The problem is, I never knew what it was or how she made it. She always put and onion or two in with her potatoes to boil. I have loved it all my life. After she passed away, I missed her so much and I missed these potatoes. I can remember sitting on the top shelf of a bookcase that my grandfather pulled up to the table, because I was too small to reach the table top. Anyway I found these here on you tube awhile ago and I was so happy that I did, it brought so much back. I am Canadian I have never been out side of Canada nor had my grandmother.
That is absolutely awesome , what sweet memories 🥰 We cook these all types of way with onion and with a little bacon grease and it’s delicious all kind of ways 🙌 I thought I’d share the basics for the ones that have never had it 😊 Thank you so much for sharing and watching, it’s amazing how a taste of food can take you right down memory lane, I did have the honor of knowing my grandparents they had all passed away but I cherish our family memories and recipes. Big hugs from South Carolina 🤗🥰
Oh my stars, I am beyond grateful to everyone that watches 🥰🙌 Many thanks to you, it sure is a blessing, you just made my day 😀 big hugs and love from our house to yours 🥰🤗’
It truly is such a comfort food! Peas pairs so well with them you are absolutely 💯 right, the sweet with the savory, so good! Thank you so much for watching 🥰🤗
You are so welcome! Food sometimes brings back memories in ways we don’t expect, it’s a wonderful feeling! I hope you make a big bowl and just sit and reminisce, and it feel like a hug from grandma 🥰🤗
Well, I’m not southern and your recipe doesn’t in anyway remind me of momma’s cooking. We also love our potatoes here in the Pacific Northwest. I always try to prepare home cooked tasty meals for my family. Your video interests me for two reasons - it looks tasty AND SIMPLE. It’s the simple that really caught my attention. Can’t wait to give it a try. Thank you!
Well big hugs from South Carolina 🤗 I absolutely love seeing where everyone is from and what they eat in their region so thank you very much! I honestly started this channel for 2 reasons, the first being my husband pressured me for quite awhile and I finally caved to prove to him no one would watch lol 😂 and the second reason was because cooking has become a dying art and I want my grandchildren to be able to look back and remember the things Gigi made, but I really enjoy making it simple for the ones that are learning to cook and this little recipe is so simple, yet so tasty! I hope you give it a try and will let me know how you like it. It’s really a base you can add all kind of things, a bit of bacon grease, or bacon and cheese, the possibilities are endless. Once again many thanks 🙏 🥰
Boy, this brought back a memory. My grandma made these a couple of times when I was a kid, and my 4 year old brain truly thought it was potato soup. She said her mom often made it, and my grandpa said his parents did too (her mom was born in 1892. His parents were 1902/1904) so this is a very old recipe.
It’s a treasured family recipe that has stood the test of time for so many generations! Theres many ways you can “doctor’ it up but boy does it taste delicious just like this 🙌 I wanted the simplicity to shine through. This is for all of us that grew up with little, and still ate like a king 😊I’m glad it brought back a wonderful memory for you, thank you so much for sharing, this makes me happy 🥰🤗
I surely do enjoy stewed potatoes. I have eaten them all my life. Potatoes, a staple in my home growing up. My father gardened, and we had homegrown potatoes. Thanks Ronda for introducing this dish to those who haven’t ever eaten them! ❤️
Rhonda, that’s my dish. My mother fixed them. When I married my mother in law made them. I started making them like her. She boiled a pork chop first then when it got done she put the potatoes in and flour and water slurry. I added chopped onion to mine and butter, salt and pepper. I like lil more pepper in my potatoes, rutabagas and dumplings. Since we live in Arizona my daughter has to bring my flour cornmeal and whatever else I can’t find here. Our brands in South Carolina are not here because they don’t eat what we eat.
@dothatch5147 yesssss ma’am, you know all about that good eatin 😀 I have fixed these taters all kind of ways, but I thought I would show the most simplest way with water, butter and cream, but they are absolutely delicious cooked in a broth and with a little bacon grease 😂 It’s so unfortunate that your region is missing out on all this goodness 🙈 We love our black pepper too, we always sprinkle more on top lol. Rutabagas are probably my second favorite vegetable, behind a tater, not everyone knows about them either, they are missing out! Big hugs from SC friend 🤗🥰
These look wonderful! My grandmother made these, but called them creamed potatoes. In the springtime when she had fresh garden peas, she added those. Your recipes always bring back precious memories--Thank you!
THIS 👆is the biggest compliment you could have given me 🥰 I love that this recipe sparked so many wonderful memories for an abundance of people, it’s exactly what I hope for! I know I make all types of food but to hear this is what my grandma made just thrills my soul because I want everyone to enjoy those good ol’recipes we grew up on and fed our babies and grandbabies! My hopes are that my grandchildren will say, “Oh honey this was Gigi’s recipe,” and will keep sharing it! Thank you so much for your sweet comments, my heart is full 🥰🤗
@@BrendaCampbellThe-Lupus-Effect The video threw such a craving on me, I had to make some today. Wish I'd had some fresh from the garden instead of fresh from Publix frozen foods.
@@janapinson8665 Sorry that is a bit of typo, it is pickle pot roast. and recipe from a food blogger named Tipsy House Wife. It is similar to the Mississippi Pot Roast but uses pickles instead of the spicier peppers.
@mistythompson1398 I actually had to Google it and seen that recipe, I love Mississippi pot roast but I’ll bet that pickle juice really tenderizes that meat making it delicious… I’m definitely going to try it. Thanks for sharing that. 🥰🤗
Stewed potatoes is almost a staple at our house. If we can’t figure out what we want-stewed potatoes and cornbread works every time !! They looked awesome ❤
Every time honey EVERY TIME 🙌 I don’t think people realize how simple it is to make them, if they did they would have them a lot more often, it’s a go too for sure! I hear you with the cornbread, honey you know what up lol 🥰🤗
Aww bless you! Yay!!!! This makes me smile, I love sharing recipes and getting feedback, it just warms my heart! I can certainly eat just the potatoes as my supper but it also goes alongside almost any entree!!! Thank you so much for watching…happy cooking 🥰🤗
I am reading this a lot and that makes me happy because this is what we called them, but we also called mashed potatoes creamed potatoes lol so I figured we were provably calling it the wrong name after I was told 20 years ago its called stewed potatoes, nice to know we weren’t wrong it can be calked either, maybe it was called different names in different areas, regardless of where it originated or what the original name was, honey it is good stuff, and grandmas knew what’s up lol 😂Many thanks for watching, I certainly appreciate it 🥰
In Louisiana we had these often made just like this when I was growing up. Now after I had my family I have learned that some garlic and sour cream add a lot to the dish. I’m 82 now and have eaten a ton of these during my life.
Absolutely!!! I love that it’s so versatile, it’s great with any addition or it’s fabulous alone, it just hits your soul 😉 I am reading where everyone is from and am realizing how many people have enjoyed this dish over the years, no matter where they are located! I love simplicity. Ha ha also the banjo Music at the end. Nice side . My wife loves this same recipe accept with plain old canned sweet peas over toast, or potatoes. Thank you all y'all.
Meee too 😁 you wouldn’t expect it to be this good but the simple flavors just shine through! I grew up in East Tennessee with 9 of us kids, and my sweet little Mama made this with pearl onions and peas and sometimes just the potatoes. Our Dad had to have potatoes twice a day and we grew acres of potatoes...we were poor, but we ate good! I have made this and added rotisserie chicken and corn and made it like a chowder...delicious! "Stewed potatoes" yum!! Thank you for the memories ❤❤❤
Oh yummy, now there’s a great idea, I love corn chowder 🙌 Growing up we ate a lot of potatoes, rice and noodles because it was cheap and like you said, we never realized we didn’t have much because my mom was pretty creative in serving those things, we were rich with good food and love! I can make an entire meal from just potatoes. I truly do love them!!! I’m sure growing up this way, made us the people that we are today, and for that I am grateful! Thank you so much for watching 🥰🤗
I'm a native Texan but my parents were from Oklahoma. My Mom always prepared these potatoes as a delicious side for salmon patties. When I was little girl Mom would also tear a slice of bread into small bites and cover them with some of the gravy. I loved those gravy bites!!!! I also loved the potatoes and gravy spooned over my salmon (after it was drenched in pepper sauce, of course.) We are senior citizens now and I still prepare this for my family. It is one of our favorite meals!!!! Thank you for sharing your recipe and bringing me many wonderful memories!!!! 😊
This sure made me smile!!! We had salmon patties a lot growing up as well, we ate them with grits too, it was a super cheap meal, now canned salmon is not so frugal anymore, but is still a favorite 🙌 Have you ever had catfish patties? My kids loved them growing up as well. Catfish is pretty plentiful near us and the texture is comparable to a crab cake which really excited me lol! Thank you so much for watching and sharing a precious memory 🤗🥰

One of my most favorite things that momma made. We called em “Soupy Potatahs”. Mmmm. Mmmmm. Sooooo good! With fried salmon patties and fried corn bread pole beans and a big ole slice of home grown tomater!! Heaven on a plate.
Now you know whats up…that’s a great supper right there, down to the sliced mater…HEAVEN INDEED! I’ve noticed everyone from NC calls this soupy potatoes, is that where you’re from? Many thanks for watching and sharing…love it 🥰🤗

I pride myself on being well versed in southern cooking, but I have never heard of stewed potatoes!! Creamed peas and potatoes, yes- but different. Going to try this soon. Sounds really good!
It really is a great recipe that has been passed down for many generations here in South Carolina! I hope you enjoy it as we do and can proudly add it to your southern recipe collection, happy cooking, thank you so much for watching and sharing 🥰🤗

My mother made these all the time. And we loved them. I am from AL. But live in FL now. My mother was the best cook in the world. God bless you for sharing. I had not thought of these in a long time. ❤🙏❤🙏
I know exactly what you mean, I was blessed by a momma that could cook anything you handed her, even with limited means we still ate good. We had a lot of rice, noodles and potatoes but our bellies were full and we knew we were loved fiercely, and I’m lucky to still enjoy the spread on her table 🥰 I’m so glad you stumbled across my video and watched, I hope it brought back wonderful memories, big hugs from SC all the way to FL 🤗🥰
Growing up in Eastern KY it was a treat to dig up some new potatoes and boil them whole to make gravy just like this on them. If you've never had this before you really should try it because it tastes different than you might imagine. Nothing else I've made using potatoes has quite this type of flavor. It's delicate and somewhat earthy and brings forth an aspect of the veg that you need to experience to understand what I mean. I've never used mature potatoes to make it and would suggest it using petites or fingerlings if you don't have access to fresh young ones from the garden. Thank you for your vid. Comfort food, indeed! :-)
You are absolutely correct, new potatoes are so good, I say they just hit different lol! I did want to show that it can still be delicious using potatoes that are readily available for most, so russets it was lol! You’re right though, if you make it with new potatoes that’s how you will want them. Thank you so much and hello from SC 👋🤗🥰
You cooked it just like my mom did. EXACTLY! I love this dish. It's the best side dish ever because it goes with any main course. My mom would add country sausage if there were leftovers...that was rare though. Thanks for getting the word out. Some unlucky folks are now going to have a great dish to share with family and friends.
Oh honey thank you for that, THIS is why I do what I do 🥰 I try to make some dishes that the newer generations just have not had and I hope they will enjoy it and it will be a great memory for their children like it is for us. We had very little growing up, but mom sure knew how to whip up some delicious, cheap dishes that still takes me right back to our big old family table! Thank you so much for watching and sharing your sweet memory! I love sausage in this too, it was a complete meal 🥰😊
Honey get you some stewed taters going 😂 you won’t regret it! Thank you so much for watching and commenting, I sure do love seeing where everyone is from, it just warms my heart! Keep me posted if ya try them 🤗🥰
Being from Australia I've never heard of this recipe , but its a great recipe and so versatile as you could add any of your favourite flavours and it would work well, cant wait to try with it the way you have made it with lots of pepper.
I love that you are watching this from Australia, it’s on my bucket list lol! You are so right the possibilities are endless with this recipe but just preparing it like this is also so good. The simple ingredients really shine through. You sprinkle that pepper on until your heart is content 🤣🥰
Oh yay, now I’m excited for you to try them 😋 They really are so good, most have it as a side but I can eat it as my entire meal. I sure hope ya try it, if ya do let me know how ya liked them, I love getting feedback 🤗 Thank you for dropping by and saying hello 🥰🤗
I’m an old man and my momma made these but I never knew how, now I’m going to make them myself, thank you so much.
Stop it, you’re making me hangry!
@@alexrodgers9247 lol 😂 sorry 😀

Oh my gosh! One ofmy grandmothers made this in the 50’s, too! We grandkids loved it. I’d forgotten about it and now must make some. Thank you.
This is how my mom made them also! Lots of onions and cut up hot dogs in it!
@@Jomama02 so good 🥰
I haven't thought of these in decades!
My mom made these and I swear it’s the one dish I miss the most since losing her to colon cancer in 2004. I loved these so much.
Aww, I’m so very sorry you lost your mom! When you are missing her the most maybe you can make you a bowl and just feel her love🥰 Thank you for watching and sharing…big hugs 🤗🥰
You clearly are an expert.😊. Thanks for teaching us.
No expert here lol but I don’t mind sharing at all…thank you for watching 🥰🤗

We used to say mom would squeeze a dollar so tight George would squeal lol 😂 Thank you so much for watching and sharing I appreciate it 🥰🤗
I remember mom feeding us one slice of bread and a tablespoon of watery gravy. WISH we had a spud.
What an excellent idea!
It works great 😊
This was my Granny's go to.
Did Granny use the cooking water to make the sauce?
Save the water for your plants
@@trudygreer2491 yes, as I recall she did not drain any of the cooking water she just thickened it with a slurry.
Great idea 🥰
Here in the north we call this "creamed potatoes" and has been a staple in my family for decades.
Mom. With peas
I grew up near Charleston, SC but have been near Greenville SC for 20 years 😊
we had these growing up in Georgia--would put on top of crumbled corn bread with grated cheddar cheese and raw chopped onion--yummy
That sounds absolutely fabulous, I will have to try it that way 🙌 Thank you for the suggestion and for watching 🤗🥰
That sounds amazing

Michigan here...yes, creamed potatoes and peas with bread and butter (never had a meal without it)! Tore it up as a kid in the 60's 😋

Mine too!! & another commenter said her family added Pearl Onions as well!
I have loved stewed potatoes all my life. My favorite meal I'd meat lloaf with tomato sauce, stewed potatoes, and fried cabbage.

Yes ma’am that was the way they were served and it was so good! Simple but delicious!!! Thank you for sharing!!! 🥰🤗
My Granny was from Mississippi and called them creamed potatoes. I was so sick when I was pregnant with my first baby that Granny would cook that every day. I could only take about 3 bites but it kept me alive! I still make it as soon as the weather gets cool.

Yep salt them taters you won’t regret it 🥰
I'm a salt lover so I'll add salt, but remember that cheese is usually quite salty, too, so you don't want it too salty.
That’s right, cheese ads a little salt, just enough to season the potatoes while simmering and getting happy 😃
Love how she uses that paring knife. That is how my mom and grandma used that knife too. Old school.

This is for all of us that grew up with little, and still ate like a king 😊I’m glad it brought back a wonderful memory for you, thank you so much for sharing, this makes me happy 🥰🤗
My Mom called them gravy potatoes..best ever❤
When describing them I always say,”It’s like eating taters with gravy,” and you surely can’t beat that 🙌 Your mom nailed it 🥰🤗
I surely do enjoy stewed potatoes. I have eaten them all my life. Potatoes, a staple in my home growing up. My father gardened, and we had homegrown potatoes. Thanks Ronda for introducing this dish to those who haven’t ever eaten them! ❤️
I absolutely knew you would know all about this dish, Lord knows we have ate some taters in our life, simple little recipe but oh so good 🥰❤️
Rhonda, that’s my dish.
This is the recipe my soul has been longing for and I didn't even know it!! Perfect! Thank you!
Oh honey I hope it hits your soul lol 😂 Love this comment🙌thank you so much for watching and stopping by 🤗🥰
These look wonderful!
Oh lordy, my mama used to make that out of the garden. She used whole small potatoes, peas, and onions. I miss mama's kitchen.
Same here. I grew up with creamed potatoes and peas, yummm!❤❤❤
@@BrendaCampbellThe-Lupus-Effect The video threw such a craving on me, I had to make some today. Wish I'd had some fresh from the garden instead of fresh from Publix frozen foods.
Those new potatoes really do hit different 😊 sooooo good 🙌
Hi Rhonda, this potato stew is delicious and perfect for the fall season. Thanks for sharing!
@Ritanarecipes you are very welcome, 🤗 you are right it is perfect for fall, it just warms ya soul!! Thank you for watching 🥰🤗
I am making a pickled pot roast Thursday night for dinner and I think I just found our potato side. Thank you.
Yessss 🙌 this is a perfect side, I hope you enjoy it, let me know if you do 🥰🤗
@@mistythompson1398 if you don’t mind my asking, what is pickled pot roast? I’ve never heard of that before.
@@mistythompson1398 ohh ok! That’s good to know! Thanks!
I'm as southern as you get but somehow never made this! Making it now! Thank you, I couldn't sub fast enough. Lord bless and keep you ❤🙏
Aww bless you! This dish was really popular during the Great Depression, I’d love to know how far this recipe dates back, apparently it’s called something different all over the world but we can certainly all agree it is delicious and frugal. I’m so glad you stumbled upon my channel, big welcome to you honey, many thanks for watching 🥰🤗
1st time viewer, I made this for family and they loved it. Eating it all buy it self filled us up. We definitely will be using the for a side option.Thank you and God bless
Yay!!!! This makes me smile, I love sharing recipes and getting feedback, it just warms my heart! I can certainly eat just the potatoes as my supper but it also goes alongside almost any entree!!! Thank you so much for watching…happy cooking 🥰🤗
My grandma called them creamed potatoes. They are so yummy!
I am reading this a lot and that makes me happy because this is what we called them, but we also called mashed potatoes creamed potatoes lol so I figured we were provably calling it the wrong name after I was told 20 years ago its called stewed potatoes, nice to know we weren’t wrong it can be calked either, maybe it was called different names in different areas, regardless of where it originated or what the original name was, honey it is good stuff, and grandmas knew what’s up lol 😂Many thanks for watching, I certainly appreciate it 🥰
Good food, good folks, good life. Thanks for the video. God Bless. NW ga.
@tville7043 I just love this comment, and you are so welcome, big ol’thank you for watching friend, blessings from SC 🥰🤗
Many thanks for sharing and commenting, I sure do appreciate it, big hugs 🤗 🥰
My mom use to make them for us kids and we loved them.❤
Wasn’t it delicious? It seems like times were so much simpler back then. Food taste better and I truly believe it was because they just used simple ingredients, great memories 🥰🤗
Made this tonight with red potatoes that I left the skin on per another viewer's suggestion, and added about a tablespoon of Bacon Up. The quickest prep ever, and totally delicious eating😋 I might have leftovers for breakfast with a sausage patty😊 winner ,winner, breakfast and dinner😁
Woohoo!!! I’m so glad you liked them and a big thank you for the feedback, I love getting feedback, it just makes my heart smile 🥰🤗
I love simplicity.
Ha ha also the banjo
Music at the end.
Nice side .
My wife loves this same recipe accept with plain old canned sweet peas over toast, or potatoes.
Thank you all y'all.
Meee too 😁 you wouldn’t expect it to be this good but the simple flavors just shine through! My hubby has a little fun with his editing…Lord help us lol 😂 I’m glad you enjoyed it, this will make him very happy!! I love and taters too, they go together so well! Many thanks for watching, we sure appreciate it 🥰🤗
That looks amazing! Thumbs-up 👍
Thank you so much 🥰 It’s simple but so good, it will hit ya soul lol 😂
I felt called out. Just before you said, don't call this potato soup.. I uttered the words.. oh, so its like potato soup. 😂 I had me a good laugh lol. This looks really good. Will probably make this one day soon. Love seeing a fellow southerner out here helping people make some of our good old recipes. From Alabama here.
I just chuckled out loud myself 🤣😂 I do have a potato soup video just to show there is a difference lol but honestly I’d say call it whatever ya want to call it and enjoy! I’m seeing so many people that make this but call it different names so that’s been very interesting for me! I grew up with very little in the south so southern recipes iswhat I know… thanks for watching. I sure appreciate it. 🥰🤗

Isn’t it the simplest recipes that are just so good, it just hits your soul, thank you so much 🥰❤️
I just made this recipe and it was so good. I eyeballed the salt, pepper and butter to taste. Then while it was simmering with the milk and flour I added cooked bacon bits to it. It was so delicious. I am a single dad of two girls and I am planning on cooking this recipe for them going forward as a side or single dish. It was so easy to make too. Thank you.

I haven't thought of this in decades, thank you. I just got my pay cut so this is the perfect recipe to try.I watched my Gramma make this when the family visited her and Grampa in Wisconsin about 60 years ago. Creamed peas and potatoes with homemade buns, miss everyone.

I'm from south Mississippi and many of your recipes are amazingly like ours. I am glad you make what we call potatoes in cream. It made me think of Mama so much.

One of my most favorite things that momma made. We called em “Soupy Potatahs”. Mmmm. Mmmmm. Sooooo good! With fried salmon patties and fried corn bread pole beans and a big ole slice of home grown tomater!! Heaven on a plate.
