"Dracula and his SON" D1. You finally figured out the characters, Dr. Geoff, Dracula, Wolfman, and Frank Monster. Ending refrain was Fur Elise.
Geoff actually filmed this twice. The first time was with slightly different costumes, set, and makeup done by Rick Underwood. But when he started editing, he realized that wasn’t the look he wanted. So he filmed it again. This time he expanded the set (Villains Lair set at Pattycake Studios.). He added more color to the lighting and slightly different costumes. But Rick wasn’t available that day, so Kathy did the makeup. One of the things he liked the least the first time was that Kathy really did look dead, so she looked more alive in this one.
Geoff tends toward lighter videos. Even his latest - Jack’s Lament - shows hope in the outro with his reaction to the snow.
Don't forget, Geoff worked for Disney/Universal for years, and that perfect stop action, jerky movement is a staple for monsters.

Just to clarify for you, Ogre - the left-most 5 white keys on a full 89 key piano are A0, B0, C1, D1 and E1. Geoff, with his uncanny talent, has hit an E1 at the end of _Oogie Boogie_ , a D1 here in _Monster Mash_ , a C1 in the Elvis cover of _Way Down_ , a B0 in the _Halo Theme_ cover and touched on an A0 in the Imagine Dragon cover of _Enemy_ . To give you an idea how low an A0 is - the human ear can perceive from 20-20,000 Hz on average; an A0 is 27.5 Hz.

Geoff also had sustained B0s (3 of them, although the first is by far the easiest to hear distinctly) in Valhalla Calling
It wasn't Enemy but yes, it was Warrior I believe, I think what I watched from his range compilations, his lowest was c#0 growl. But hitting notes that low is not often musical. If you want to use them, you most likely have to double them with octaves above.
The dance moves were supposed to be reminiscent of various movie monsters: Arms out front is Frankenstein's monster; elbows pulled back with 'claws' up is the Wolfman; right arm raised across face as if draping a cape is Dracula; arms hugging torso is the Mummy. Each verse sees the movements more complicated and stylized, but they're still those same basic forms.
And yes, I've seen commenters who are patrons exposed to the behind-the-scenes say that those movements were speeded up a bit to make them more machine-like. Not any kind of CGI, but just recording them to a slowed playback, then speeding up to normal.
I believe the monsters were filmed at normal speed but a low framerate. Like 12, maybe even 6, instead of 24. That would make their movements look jerky.
@@DougRayPhillipsWhat I heard was that the dancers were filmed at about 75% normal frame rate, then replayed at normal speed. It both speeds their movements up, and creates the jerky movement.
Fun fact: the choreography for the "monsters" was made by Bucky, the former Voiceplay member who plays the "drunken sailor" in, well... "Drunken sailor" video 😁😅.
Yes, "basso profundo" is the deepest bass. "Profundo" means "deep". 🙂
The D1 was "...Dracula and his SON" 🙂.
I don't know whether or not the three "monsters" were filmed with a sped up camera technique, I've had the same impression, though I've spent much time watching it carefully and I can't say I'm sure it was. 🤔

Haha how did I not notice geoff’s reaction to himself during “Dracula” getting into his face. That face he made and quickly looking at the camera while leaning away. Such a great actor since he had to probably react to nothing when they were filming it initially. That was priceless.

The moves done by the dancers represent Frankenstein, extended hands, Wolfman, the hand slashes, Dracula, cape in front of face, and the mummy, the hands wrapped around body.
If you go back and watch, you see her twitch when he hits the super low notes... It is quite fun. Yes, the set from right to left is Frankenstien's monster... he did not always have the bolts, only in the last 70 years of movies... wolfman, Count Dracula, Doctor Frankenstien and a helpless victim. She does have a pretty good scream, doesn't she.

To be considered a bass, you have to be comfortable singing a C2. Kinda like the mark for tenors is high C.
Basso Profundo are natural deep bass voices.
Morning voice is absolutely a real thing too. Everything's about as relaxed as it can get first thing and people can often hit lower notes easier with their throat so relaxed.
Geoff always has fun in his videos which works out pretty well for the rest of us too, lol. It's just a good time watching him or VoicePlay.
He did all the dance moves, but he did play with the camera speed to give it that creepy vibe.

Geoff has said “Did you pick up on the "la la la" section? It's Bach's toccata and fugue in d minor, just shuffled and swung”. At the end, there is a hint of Fur Elise. The one in the middle is wolfman, you can see him scratching occasionally. The one on the left is Dracula. And on the right is Frankenstein's monster I think. He does The Floss at the end. :) I can't agree about cream or milk for the voice. It's very bad. Basso Profundo means a very loud and strong bass voice. Profoundly deep. Geoff doesn't have that. He needs a mic. Morning voice affects most people, the larynx is relaxed when you first wake up. Even I wake up with a low voice. The lowest note on a piano is an A. Bottom C or C1 is two notes up from that, just before the first black note. D1 is the white key above that, between the two black notes.
Right, that is why he calls himself a Low Bass singer, he does not claim Basso Profundo. He would know better than the largest number of his fans.
Morning voice applies to everyone. You know how you sound a little deeper when you first wake up? That's your morning voice. So yeah, it applies to vocalists also. :) I'm a low alto, and on morning voice I can produce a reliable B2 of good quality. The rest of the day, my bottom note ranges between D3 and C3. I struggle to reach the tenor high C no matter what. LOL. But I have definitely timed my sleeping/wake-up schedule to suit a performance if I needed to be able to get a good quality B2.
Milk/Cream... no. That's a myth. It's actually very bad for us. For me, it causes my throat to stick. Think of what it feels like to have a thick glob of mucus in your throat that won't go away - that's what dairy does to me if I have too much of it. Not conducive to good singing at all. The biggest thing is hydration. Water, water, and more water. Staying hydrated helps the vocal folds work the best.
His wife's scream was just perfect. LOL. She used to work at one of theme parks herself, so just like the VP guys, she has a strong background in theater and performance.
As far as Geoff's laugh at the end. It's a very theatrical, Thurl Ravenscroft kind of dark sound. Geoff has said on multiple occasions that he takes a lot of inspiration from Thurl Ravenscroft, so you will hear that influence in his singing and voice acting from time to time.
He uses that "Thurl Ravenscroft" voice almost exclusively in his Headless Horseman video.

I've noticed (in my less responsible days) that a few beers will allow me to comfortably hit notes about a half octave lower than normal. Not enough to get a buzz just enough to relax. Maybe it was being louder after being at a bar. Like redneck vocal warmup
You may have noticed that there's a size difference between Geoff and his wife Kathy. She's almost exactly 1 foot shorter than Geoff.
Definitely noticed. AJ and Ogre are 6'8" and 6'5", respectively. They are very familiar with height disparity. LOL
One of my favorite details is that the "La-la-la" bit is a very swung, vocal take on the organ music that's usually associated with Dracula. Much slower, of course, but that's what he was working with on that one, and I love it!

This was, a year or two ago, my introduction to Geoff, which led me to VoicePlay. I'll never be too old for Halloween, so thank goodness Geoff et al go all out, and Broken Peach, too. If only Home Free would join the party, but that doesn't look like it will happen. 'Too bad.

Haha I’m watching this in the wee hours of the morning. So glad to see all of you guys in this video. I geeked out Ogre when you said you listen to Peter Barber, I love it when the reactors I watch reference each other. I’m happy to see Voiceplay/Geoff Castellucci get the love from reactors and fans alike. Haha as a graphic design artist I have translated the rabbit hole I’ve fallen down musically into my projects and art I create. These guys and Geoff are so inspirational. Thank you guys for reacting to Geoff and Voiceplay.
(Ogre here) I mention Fairy voice mother, maggie Renee, and Elizabeth Zharnoff (my inspiration for reactions), too. There's a pink tie guy that I may start refencing soon, too. This is all so fun!!!

Peter Barber is going to have Layne coming in to his podcast eventually too. Haha I’ve completely gone down this rabbit hole and have thought about gathering information about Voiceplay to write a research paper for a school assignment. Voiceplay, I feel is quite the phenomenon.they just have this certain sound that is so catchy and brings more viewers into their corner (or rabbit hole). Haha I like to also call it the Voiceplay Vortex. Their music videos just have a certain gravity all their own and pulls you in. I’ve loved everything they do.

Tim Foust and Geoff are both Basso Profundos. Avi is probably one too. And yes, they record those notes in the morning.
You really ought to go out and check out Peter Barber’s interview with Geoff. It is really helpful and Peter finally gets Geoff to admit that he is a bass and not a baritone with bass tendencies.
It isn’t just that Geoff sings low. He has beautiful roundness to his voice. It’s just super smooth and it really comes out in his narration on his solo channel. He just released the Legend of Sleepy Hollow which inspired the song the Headless Horseman that I think you have reacted to.
I am with Ogre on those cracking noises. I flinch every time. I also flinch in huggy buggy when there’s that neck cracking sound when they’re all in red.

Easiest way to look at these notes is this:
1 - There arte 12 Notes per Octave, A-G (7 white keys) and C#, D#, F#, G# and A#, (5 black keys)
1.1 - Notes in an Octave: 12 notes C, C#, D, D#, E, F#, G, G#, A, A#, and B. Add a number to the end to describe the octave A# => A#3
2 - Octaves change on the C note, note A Note. So B1 is only one note lower than a C2, and a C2 is a lower note athan An A2
2.1 - Those black hammer notes depending on the key and orientation of the chords, can be described as either a #/sharp or b/flat note example, C# = Db, G# = Ab.
3 - Notes to Hertz - The frequency of a tone is descirbed in Hertz, or oscillations per second.
3.1 - , A0 = 27.5 Hz, and each octave up is double the previous octaves frequency.
3.2 - So A0 / A1 / A2 / A3 / A4 / A5 would be 13.75 Hz/ 27.5Hz / 55 Hz / 110 Hz / 220 Hz / 440 Hz.
3.2.1 This is why notes of different octaves can be changed but the overall musicality isn't effected
3.2.2 This is why overtones, subharmonics and the lake work as well.... One example of subharmonics is when a singer uses vocal fry to cause a complimentary freqency at half the rate to drop an octave, so if you're hitting a C2, it'll drop to a C1 because C1 = 32.7 Hz, C2 = 65.41 Hz = 32.705x2. ).
3.2.3 This is also why bass is harder to control exact notes at lower levels, between C0 and D0, there's only a 2 Hz difference (16.35 Hz vs 18.35Hz) in resonance, vs C5 to D5 is a ~64 Hz difference (523.25 vs 587.33)---If you are 20 hz off at a D5 (587 Hz), and you sing a 563Hz instead, you're definitely singing flat, but you're effectively singing a C# 5 + 39 cents, which is floatuing between C#5 of 554 Hz, but if you are singing + 20Hz higher than a D0 (19.45 Hz), you're singing over an octave higher at closer to an E1.
4 - Keyboards - So on that 88 key keyboard, it usually starts on A0 => G7.
4.1 - Note breakdown: A0=> B0(15.48 Hz) || C1=>B1(30.87 Hz) || C2=>B2 (61.74 Hz) || C3=> B3(123.48 Hz) || [Middle C]=C4 =>B4 (226.96 Hz) || [Tenor C] = C5 => B5 (523.55Hz( || C6=>B6 (987.77 Hz) || C7=>G7 (3135.96 Hz)
4.2 - Lowest Geoff Chest Note: For additional context, Geoff's pure chest, lowest song was F#1 (Folsom Prison Blues),
4.3 - The low note in this was a is a D#1 but it's throat bass I think from the buzz sound of i
4.4 - Geoff's lowest usable Subharmonic was a B0 for Valhalla Calling as well as the Halo theme
He's lowest chest note usually was a G1 for many years, many people gave him the nickname ""G1 Geoff", or the third for lowest key on the 88key keyboard.
5 Low Voice Context - C2 is a low note for most basses in chest voice.
5.1 Talking voices, which greatly ranges depending on inflection, etc, AJ'~ C3-E3 , Jerzey's voices tends G2=>C3 range, the - Ogre 's voice around G3-A3, Bootchar is around C3-D3'ish

Thank you for explaining some things that have always confused me as a non-musically trained person. I always have to go look at a picture of a piano keyboard to figure out what they are referring to. To me it’s just really weird to start with a C. So I always have to look at the piano keyboard but I’ve just copied your entire dissertation to refer to next time so I don’t have to go look up a keyboard!

I am old enough to remember when the song was new. It was great, but Geoff's is better! He had to record the monsters twice, the first time they looked more scary than campy. There was some electronic whoha with the dancing, but I don't remember exactly how. Even so, he did the dance three times, six if you count the first time, with almost total synchronicity.
Bucky, the drunken sailor in Voiceplay's Drunken Sailor, did the choreography.
There’s actually a really cool 2-part video series called “bass singers subharmonics compilation” by Marcello Bass. You get to see a bunch of these guys doing subharmonics, AKA the really cool bass thing that you feel vibrating your chest. They start higher on the piano and gradually get lower :)
And also some of the entries in the videos are from actual songs, some are just the guys practicing. There’s appearances from people like Geoff, some of the bass gang guys, solo artists, old gospel singers, ect. You get the everyone in there. I HIGHLY recommend checking it out to learn the difference in sound between chest and subharmonic bass, it’s super interesting
Another way to reach those low notes in the middle or at the end of a word or sentence is to use a vocal fry while breathing in. I think Geoff once spoke about doing that as well sometimes. It's hard to actually make it sound good, though
Layne does a lot of inhaled phonation. He frequently does this sort of “whoa” sound when he’s doing that that makes it sound sort of like a lions roar. He did it quite a bit in the cover of enemy. Geoff doesn’t use it as much but Layne has mastered it.

The original song caught some flak. When it was first released, Elvis Presley called it the most stupid thing he had ever heard. I bet that must have put a damper on certain careers because it's Elvis saying this. Maybe he did not understand the idea of FUN. It's a song for kids to enjoy around Halloween, I don't see (hear) anything wrong with it at all.

I think the lowest sustained note he's recorded is a B0 (A0 is the last key on the piano) in the Halo theme and also in Valhalla Calling. Not sure what his highest note is but it's way the hell up there.
If you want to be specific, Elizabeth is a coloratura soprano, which is the highest range and characterized by a light tone with lots of vocal runs. They often end up playing birds.
This song and Purple People Eater are the two that I remember from my dad's..... 8track, collection when I was a kid. For those that don't know what an 8track is, well.. look it up. LOL. Great job guys.

There is a camera technique used in the dance.
You mentioned listening to reactions from The Charismatic Voice but not knowing what her voice was like. Before Elizabeth shifted career paths, she was a world-class soprano. Take a look at her performing “Martern Aller Arten” live in the finals of the Queen Elizabeth competition if you want to see whether she knows what she’s talking about. (Spoiler alert: yes.)
Peter Barber is no Basso Profundo. Give him 20 more years and then maybe. I love Peter but I had to clarify that.
Also, that was a sub D1.
The lyrics are Wolfman, Dracula and his son. I think the one on the end is the son.

Geoff claims to be a natural baritone with a bass range. If you go back and look at Voiceplay when they were on the Sing-Off, you don't see the strong bass he has now. Meeting Tim Faust of Home Free set him on the path or focused him to expand his bass range. You must have the vocal equipment to do what he does, but it's a lot of hard work and practice. Early in his career, Geoff wanted to be a rocker and worked on the high mixed range that he has as well.
nah, no chest D1 from Geoff. the lowest he's ever gotten in chest is F#1. anything lower than that will be subs or growls.

Peter is NOT a Basso Profundo. He explains it what he is in the interview with Geoff Castelluci. But Peter is by no means a Basso Profundo. He does not even have the deepness Geoff has and Geoff is not a Basso profundo

We did home Free's not too long ago. We're trying to give it some space before we do anyone elses
And imbibibing in adult beverages to the point of excess often contributes to very excessive bass voice.... though not really recommended to get shit faced to be able to sing low.
Well...certainly, we shouldn't make a habit of it...
