  • We've been hearing and seeing more and more people asking about how to replace the front wheels on their Automower, or how to fix one if it comes off the axle for some reason. So here it is!! Here we show you how to remove the wheel from the axle, how to reassemble the wheel, and the part that usually fails and cause a front wheel to come off the axle. This is a pretty simple repair that can be done at home with very basic hand tools in a matter of just a few minutes. As you can see in the video, it's much easier replacing a front tire on an Automower than replacing one on a lawn tractor. LOL!

    Brilliant. Thank you this was so helpful. Ordered some starlock washers for £3.50 and the problem of the wheel dropping off will be fixed. By some bizarre coincidence the front castor wheel fell off my older 265acx today just as I fixed the newer 450x so knowing how to mend these wheels has saved me two repair bills!

    Thanks very much for this excellent, clear and practical video. Last time this happened to my automower it cost me £91.30 and I've just fixed it myself for about 50p so I'm happy!

    Good video, for a temporary fix I used the old snapped retaining rig (squeezed it with pliers a bit), put it on the axle and squeezed a spring lock ring (sp?) so it locked tightly on top of the old retaining ring. Seems to be holding for now anyway. Bearings are probably next since the thing has been running over 4200km already 🙂

    Many thanks! This was very helpful. I had just ordered a new shield kit, thinking that was the problem because it was worn down on two sides, but after I watched, I took the wheel apart and put it back together, (taking a while to put the lock washer back on) and so far so good! I guess I will just use the new shield if the wheel comes off again at some point.

    • @TheRemyRomano
      @TheRemyRomano 5 лет назад

      This actually is a pretty common part failure. These starlock washers should be replaced every three years but few dealers do that.

  • @grogershoward2376
    @grogershoward2376 5 лет назад +2

    Thanks. I would like to see how you replace the wheel with axle assembly. Need size of retaining clip so can buy extra. No problems with front wheel for first two years. So far this year, two front wheels have come off.

    • @EshlemaniaTV
      @EshlemaniaTV  5 лет назад

      Replacing the whole axle assembly requires splitting open the chassis. Since it is rare to have an issue with the axle itself most people buy the complete assembly and just swap the wheel onto their existing axle. The push on retaining ring is 8 mm. 5/16 will work but takes a bit more force to get on the axle.

    • @jerryhollands8444
      @jerryhollands8444 4 года назад

      @@EshlemaniaTV presumably the 5/16 will be a little more prone to breaking/splitting after a while because of the extra force required.
      I had a front wheel fall off, and it got chewed up by Eustace 😆

    love your videos. Have gotten a great deal of tips on taking care of my Automower. Can you do a video on running 2 automowers in the same yard. I have a 450X and a bit more than the 1.2 acers recommended. Would like to have one do each half of the yard

    • @EshlemaniaTV
      @EshlemaniaTV  5 лет назад +1

      2 mowers in the same yard is easy to do. Just install them and let them go. They do not recognize each other or know that one another exists. We have done multiple installs on several properties now. Some we even have the work areas over lapping. If we get some time and decent weather we'll try to set up a small demo for ya.

    • @andrewwoulfe6579

      can you do 2 mowers from the same charger? and set up different zones for each within the same boundary wire?

    My wheel kept falling off. I came across this video, awesome! So I took mine apart and the lock nut seems fine! I'm not understanding why it would keep falling off.
    Going to reassemble, but I have a green o-ring that fell off from somewhere and I'm not sure where it goes. I don't see this piece in your video as you're taking apart and putting back together, perhaps it's something new on the 430XH?

    • @Aegir1001
      @Aegir1001 Год назад

      I understand that this answer is a year late, but for anyone else wondering. The green o-ring is placed in the slot above the outer bearing - look at 5,00 min of the video. It is not in place there, but should be.

    Why to hassle with a lockwasher, which tends to often break (because it is too thin), when shaft lock collar can get the job done more easily and is more durable in time? This alternative repair method is addressed here: ruclips.net/video/_ayoZdTo0i0/видео.html

      I know a couple people that did that as a way to repair their front wheel when it came off. It works and makes replacement much easier.
