Excellent work! That card would be definitely a casualty for anyone else, but you managed to not just repair it but to even upgrade it :D

Thank you for your nice comment! The extra texture ram sure makes a difference in image quality in later games like Quake3 for almost no cost to frame rate.
that is true franken-card. Awesome the chips still worked after that abuse. Nice work on that as well. The only thing i wondered if all the corrosion is really removed, but on the other hand it likely would have been a chore to line up those pins again. Hope the card continues to work for you.
That V1 seems to work on a lot more things than my Monster 3D. I can't run 3DMark99 at all, it completely gitches out and hardlocks the system. Which drivers are you using?

Latest official if I recall, downloaded from falconfly.
Not so long ago I had a voodoo 2 that was showing white artifacts over polygons...was that fixable? I sold the card cheap on eBay because of this.... thanks

I had a look at a V2 that was drawing random white lines and there where no lose pins or broken SMD resistors/caps so my guess on that was bad FBI or FB ram. But I did not have ram or an FBI chip at the time. But yea if one has the parts the V2 can usually be fixed but it might require a donor if the FBI or a TMU is bad, the rest you can buy on eby.
hi I'm missing ceramic capacitor c72 on my vdoo 4500 do you know what the value of the component ? or can you point where i can look it up -thanks !

Never had a Voodoo4 and I have no docs for it so not sure what value it would have. Try asking on www.vogons.org/ things like this come up there all the time so someone might know.
Solder joints cracking over time. Many reasons, thermal expansion to mechanical stress, abuse from users or corrosion. Cards like this one was probably stored outside in a shed or similar so humidity and temperatur changes varies over time.
8MB at least, 4MB frame buffer and 4MB texture ram. I never got the Frame buffer mod to work, was never detected. 4Mb of frame buffer allows for Tripple buffering instead of Double buffering so that would give a bit higher FPS when VSync is used but I tend to turn VSync of anyways. Texture ram can be upgraded to 8MB max according to 3dfx Voodoo1 datasheet BUT I have not seen that done. There are mods for up to 4+4 but in theory 4+8 for a total of 12MB is possible. I used 100Mhz EDO from a dead Voodoo2, what was left over from the dead pile of Voodoo2 I built one working from. You can find ram on ebay.
Nice work! Better to be ugly but working, than beautiful but broken!

Nice to see this repaired. I still remember my Orchid Righteous 3dfx card and how amazing it made everything look.
I still have one :)

Good video, we will have to learn this if we want to use our retroPC.
Great work, impressive skills 👍
Good stuff. More resurrected 3dfx cards please
yes please! XD
My main problem is that I dont have a working FBI chip for my second broken V1.
Impressive skills!
Good job brother thanks for saving her
Really good stuff!

Stupid question: how do pins get lose?

@ i see. thanks
voodoo1 can be upgrad?
4MB > to 6MB Edo-ram?
