    That's awesome!!! My first car was this exact same car a 1972 Datsun 1200 with a hatchback. What a blast from the past, it brings back a lot of great memories.

    I am currently in the process of resto modding a 1972 Datsun 1200 coupe just like this one. I can't wait to post some videos on my process on it. I had no idea there was only a estimated 30 still in use today. I can't wait to be a proud owner of one. I've always loved the old Datsuns especially the 1200's. Thanks you for showing that beautiful example of classic Datsun history!

    Some of the information is inaccurate here, but then again I had one as my first car and have been driving them for 30 years at this point.
    These got way better than 26 mpg, ads from the day where in the high 30s and personally with a 5 speed swap on one you could get high 40s no problem.
    Way more than 30 of these left in the country also, I have pictures from several of the larger Datsun meets with quite a few in attendance.
    Also have a buddy with like 8 himself and a couple of the sedans. Seriously, I've personally owned like 4 of them and still currently have one...although mine is running a 2.4L out of a 240sx in it.

    Just the name "Datsun" brings back memories for me!
    Had a 1972 Datsun 240z. Instead of the stock twin single piston carbs, had three 2 barrel Holley carbs! Yep,.. more commonly known as a "Six Pack" back in the day! Also, ground effects and low tail fin. Solid black and was confused of being a Porsche several times. British built so it had a five speed manual transmission instead of four! Loved that car.

      My dad had one in this ugly yellow/tan color. No sixer though. The carb barely ran iirc... GORGEOUS car though.

    • @mentalcog2187
      @mentalcog2187 2 года назад

      @@jacksin3323 Beautiful car and very stable in the turns! Wider wheel base than the other Z cars and sat just a bit lower too. Loved that car. Mine was originally that awful orange they came in. The owner before me had it painted black and put ground effects on it. Wood steering wheel was stock but I used carpet foam under the original to sound proof the car a bit more and it made it easier to feel the car as it maneuvered too. Yeah,.. fantastic car!

    I owned one of these for several years, the most reliable old car i ever owned. I used to do all the maintenance myself including tuning as the A12 engine is so easy to work on. Took it on several long road trips in Africa including off road and it never let me down. The diff was worn and used to make a humming noise at speed, the 4 speed box can be replaced by a 5 speed. My neighbour owned one and he had upgraded the engine and gearbox, mine was all original with twin S.U. Carbs which were a challenge to tune correctly. Used to wheelie in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear that is how light it was. The body work was not in great shape as the roof had dents and rust on it but mechanically it was one of the best and most reliable cars of it's time. This video brings back many happy memories of road trips and wild camping in the bush.

    When it was being driven, the sound of the transmission brought me back immediately. We were given one that hit a deer, and was worn out. Being poor, we gladly accepted it, and I pulled the A12 engine out and had it bored and the head done, and I put it back together with new parts. I put an after market carb on it and let me tell you, that thing was fun ! It hauled A** , considering I picked up The engine into my 4x4 F250 by myself.

    I used to have one of these that I set up as a canyon racer with an A-1200 motor, which is rated at 1198 cc, that's why it's called a 1200 and put out 92 hp stock. I swapped in an
    A14 SSS motor from a later model Dotson B210 and a five speed gearbox. It was a real fun corner carver… also, they were rated at 40 miles per gallon from Datsun when they first came out with stock a 12 and a four speed (Look up their posters for the 1200)

  • @CatsMeowington

    My first new car after serving in Vietnam was a 1971 Datsun 1200. As I recall, it was $1,700! It was a 4-speed stick, 4-lug 12" tires, and a beautiful lime-ish green color. A fun car to drive and since I was slimmed-down in those days, I could easily drive it around , get in and out easily. My wife bought a brand new 1971 Chevelle and it was a bit more exciting to drive, haha! The Datsun, to this day, was the best car I ever had for driving in the snow in zone 6B. I traded the Datsun in, still have the wife, on a brand new Chevy Van with white spoke wheels, rember those? Oh those were the days my friend, I thought they would never end, but they did...
