    I’m a professional painter for over 30 years. I have that sprayer. I find it to be finicky. And I really find the plastic container very clumsy. I’ve oiled the cup threads , but darn, still becomes tight.
    I have the older one, It seemed easier.
    I have the ultra quick shot also, I really like that one.
    All three have made me money.

    Great video. Just ordered mine from SW I was sold anyway but you guys broke it down from a professional perspective and gave a realistic scenario with that door. I am planning on supplementing this gun along with my sprayer but for a door or 2 or bathroom trim I'm excited to use it. Thanks again.

    I have the UltraMax, I would never buy this unit again, cover leaks from the cup liner, call graco about the leak trouble, after using the unit, after about 20gals of paint. starting having pump trouble and now the pump unit failed. had to send the unit in for repairs after spraying. the cost of about $650.00 not worth the money. sorry about this.

    I need to spray some wainscoting in a high-end store and I need to avoid mist drifting onto carpets, fixtures, or even merchandise. I've been looking at HVLP systems but I don't do a lot of painting so I don't want to invest too much. Does this have a lot of misting? Should I look for a good HVLP system?

  • @okafka5446

    "Eventually it will wear out, it won't last forever." - On average how many quarts/litres will these handhelds spray, before wearing out? - appreciating that different viscocity paints and using the sprayers at different settings, will affect this figure - hence asking for an average.
    At that point it's straight forward to replace the pump? How much does the pump cost?
    For painting doors with something like Benjamin Moore Advance satin, what sort of tip would you recommend?
    Do you think with the right tip and practise, it's possible to attain the sort of finish on trim, you'd get with a slower speed HVLP?

      Yes, I have the cordless Ultra and love it. Have done 15-20 projects with it in 2 months. Trim, doors, window casing, bedroom walls, ceilings in bedrooms and dining rooms, outdoor shutters , front entry doors etc. I have painted an entire house external cedar trim 2000 sq ft. and its garage door (3 car). (4 houses).
      To answer your question Tips I use: FFLP 208 (with 100 mesh filter) on 2-4" trim,310 FFLP on all doors and Facia and also for cutting in ceilings and walls (corners, doors/windows). 314 FFLP on all walls and ceilings. Paint I have used on walls,ceilings is SuperPaint LL,Behr Marquis Matt,Behr Ultra eggshell,Behr 558 ceiling (love it!),SWPromar200 LLeggshell,SW Resilance flat, SW emerald satin on many,many outdoor whole house cedar trim projects. Prolly made 10K in 2 months with this unit. I also have two of the 42oz cup systems and two of the 32oz cup systems.I get 5-8 projects per cup liner before I throw it out. Battery will last 3 32oz cups or 325 sq ft of wall before charge spent. Spray finish is as good as my Graco 495 Ultra Max.

    I have a new Graco Ultra 2021 about a month old. I have noticed mainly during cleaning that it sputters occasionally like it is getting air in the line or something. I had a Graco 360 VSP before the pump failed and it never did that. I have noticed that my new Ultra cordless is much more powerful and I have been spraying a bunch of 1x6 and 1x4 as well as some soffit with the 10inch extension off of my LTS17 with a 314 tip. Just wondering if any one else has experienced this. I normally just flush it 5 times with water to clean it immediately after using latex paint. However, I used the Graco throat seal the second time I cleaned it and this last time Graco pump armor. Not sure why it does that it just has me worried about the pump being it is brand new. I have sprayed unthinned Kilz 2 for my primer and Benjamin Moore Crylocoat for the paint. I have 3 42oz cups and the 32oz that came with it and the sealing caps for the cups are super handy for sealing it for short term storage as well as having cups for primer and paint and cleaning ready to go. I Love this gun just wondering why it is stuttering or sputtering when brand new. I will by a back up pump and register it for warranty on the Graco website. I got 137 off at Zoro using Capitol One shopping via Amazon. Zoro.com is owned by Grainger and has poor customer service ratings. However, I had no problem with my order from them. I will go register it to make sure it is legit which I'm sure it is.

    You said the cup hold about a quart and that was used on pretty much one door. Do you find that using this machine uses more paint vs conventional airless or brush & roll?

    • @PreptoFinish
      @PreptoFinish  7 лет назад +2

      Not more than conventional airless, but certainly more than brush and roll because it is capable of applying the equivalent of multiple manual coats in one session. The Flex Liner was not entirely full at the beginning of this clip, and we had done some patterning prior to spraying the door.

      Don't even think about buying it for any sort of serious work. I own two of them, corded and cordless one and have killed 3pumps. Complete waste of money, doesn't like any slightly thicker paints, have to strain everything, struggles after 20or so gallons, guaranteed to die by 50gallons. Replacement pumps cost 200bucks, save your money.

    In comparison with use, how did you like the battery vs. chorded units. Which would you buy? Also, the battery ultra max unit is the only one that can be used for hot purposes, laqueer/etc. Did you guys try shooting any laquer? Appreciate your time and patience.

    • @PreptoFinish
      @PreptoFinish  7 лет назад +2

      Hi Christopher, we prefer battery handhelds, for full mobility. A lot of people like the corded in small workshops though, where being on an extension cord isn't an inconvenience. The "hot" version you referred to is called the Max or MX. We did not test that version. We did not put lacquer through the corded and cordless that we are testing.

      Cordless. No tripping and less strain on wrists. In addition, Dewalt batteries are easy to come by so its not hard to have 4 on deck already, cords need to be wound up which takes time and again wrists.

    There's no doubt that cordless tooltechnology is unlimited but I notice the tool makers hold customers hostage to pay a heavy ransom to get the batteries. In most cases it's more economically sensible just to buy the entire tool once the batteries die and no longer hold a charge. The tool makers also change battery styles to continue digging in the consumers wallet. Ryobi mat not be professional grade but they don't play the battery shell game. Even if I eventually pay more due to buying the tool twice at least they are above board and have good intentions with their battery products.

      @seanmcaleavy2369 7 лет назад

      I just ordered one and although I am sure many would say don't do that, I would say this is possible if you were to keep the tip submerged in water somehow. I haven't received mine yet, but I would imagine it to be airtight so if you kept the tip from drying out, I don't see why it wouldn't be fine. Having said that, the thing doesn't hold a whole lot of paint, so why would you want to do that? Is it a bitch to clean? I would suggest just getting into the habit of cleaning it. This thing isn't cheap and sometimes one day can turn into one week or one month even. And you know that you would just feel like a total dipshit if it got ruined because you don't like cleaning it. So spare yourself from that feeling.

    • @mm-xk7pg

      It would take 2-3 coats with a brush and roller to get that kind of coverage...

    How about spraying stain?

      At lower pressure, with a smaller tip for interior stains, for exterior solid acrylic stains just treat as latex paint.

    it seems to me like it uses more paint than you would with a brush. if it's a litre cup and you only got one door out of it it's using a lot.

      I don't know about this, but I painted a double car garage door and used far less paint than I expected.
