I highly recommend the Redgrass Games Everlasting wet palette. It’s been an absolute game changer for not having to throw away paint. the only time I have to throw away paint is after like 10 painting sessions when the palette paper starts to disintegrate but by then I’ve used up pretty much all the paint I put on there to begin with. Pop that bad boy in the fridge between painting sessions and you’ll never have to worry about your paint drying/crumbling ever again!❤
Thanks for the recommendation!! Putting it in the fridge is a fantastic tip. I actually do have one of their palettes but it kept getting moldy. 🫣 I’m sure the fridge would help prevent that problem!! 🙌
@@LaurenLesley pleasure! the fridge definitely helps with the mould but what I also do to be extra careful is when I’m done with a piece of palette paper, I clean the sponge and pallet and I let the whole thing dry out for about a day or more. The sponge goes rock hard and stiff which was alarming at first but as soon as you add water, if gets soft and floppy again 👍 might be a bit overkill but I can’t find where to buy extra sponges for the palette so I want the two that came with the palette to last as long as possible!
I dont like the gouache cracking either. I just got holbein. They sell cosmetic stay wet palettes that have like a tuperware seal on amazon. I also added tea tree oil to mine to keep it from molding. I also added a bit of sizing medium to keep it wet which was mixed with QOR flow medium.
That sounds like a great system - how is it working for you? The tea tree oil is a great tip! I haven't had an issue with mold so far, but I'll keep that in mind if it pops up. :)
I've seen some people mix a little glycerin into their regular gouache when they want to dry it in a palette- I think it helps with the cracking and rewettability!
Came here to say this. This is what I did, and it helped a lot with being able to dry them down. Just don't bother with W&N Prussian Blue. It dries into a solid cake. (That's the only one I've had trouble with. The rest were pretty good.) I think I used 2-3 drops of glycerin for probably a full pan worth. Experiment with the proportion, because if you add too much, it'll make it shiny/sticky. Holbein isn't as crumbly when it dries, but it does crack.
I love gouache and it has taken quite some time to find my perfect system 😅 My perfect palette is the Mijello airtight palette with 24 wells. I spray the paint every couple of days and it doesn't dry out ☺
Hi Lauren thank you so much for sharing your wonderful palette of gouache colours. I love watercolour and watercolour mediums but have never tried gouache. I am in the process of choosing a palette of gouache colours to combine with my watercolours so I'm not interested in the usual starter gouache mixing sets available. Unlike watercolours so few gouache artists seem to share their colours outside the primary mixing sets so it is great to see your wonderful collection ! I would not have chosen to buy olive green from both W+N and Holbein but I am now, they are both beautiful. I have been able to confidently order many additional colours that I would not have but for your video such as W+N Marigold and Holbein pink. Thank you so much again and all the best with your fab curated palettes of colours.
Wonderful! I’m so glad you are taking the leap into using gouache.. it’s such a fun painting medium. I tried so many colors and it’s hard to narrow down, but I’m so happy you were able to create your own palette from seeing my swatching them! Who would’ve thought olive green would be different from different brands? Best of luck with your new paints. 🥰
Hi, you can buy sealed pallettes to hold gouche that keep them wet, there's various types, they usually have a silicone type cover then a lid which clips shut. They are brilliant for keeping gouche wet and you can go straight to your pallette and paint. 😊
I have used a sealed palette by redgrass and I like it for acryla gouache. The regular gouache bleeds everywhere when I leave it overnight. And if I really leave it too long it gets moldy. 🙈 is there a specific one you’d recommend?
I’ve heard that m graham gouache reactivates really well and stays juicy for long! Holbein gouache says not to dry their gouache in the palette on every tube because they also get crumbly.
I would say this, I am not fond of shimmery watercolors. My introduction to them was via Paul Reubens and I really did not like them. Since then I have found other makers of such paints which provided a much better experience and I have found a way to incorporate them in some of my pieces. They can be interesting, in adding points of interest as long as it's used in a subtle way. So I was able to change my mind about shimmery or metallic paints.
Good to know! As a Textile Designer, we often use the term gold to refer to a darker yellow without any metallic effect… so I think I bought them for the color without thinking about the shine! Anyway, I ended up returning the metallics bc I knew I would never use them. 🥴

Scarlet is orange-red, crimson is blue-red. And they renamed flesh tint to pale rose blush because... it's not everyone's flesh.
Ahhh! I see; good news about flesh tint. Thanks for your comment. 🤗🤗

Add white gouache to the watercolor and it makes them gouache like so you can paint light over dark.
I love this idea!!! 🤗🍾

Thank you so much for the tip! I’ve also heard of mixing honey but I haven’t tried it.. why don’t the suppliers just make it so it doesn’t crack? 😅
I guess they just assume people will mostly use it fresh from the tube 😅 it is so annoying!
@@juliettepearce1376 it really is! We shouldn't have to take that extra step lol

@@LaurenLesley no, I doesn’t. I’m not sure why 😅 I guess the palette does allow some air to come in.

Yes thank you again, you have a great eye for colour which really helped with the colour choice 😀
Thanks for the swatches, i ordered the Ash Blue since it is so different than my other shades. I can tell it will be beautiful when white is added.
Ahh, love this color! It's such a great supporting color and I love that it's so neutral-y

Travel Paint Palette Box with Foldable Paint Brush Washer, 3-in-1 Portable 16 Wells Airtight Paint Saver Palette Box with Brush Cleaner and Brush Holder for Watercolor Oil Acrylic Gouache Painting
Sorry, couldn't share link to item but this is the description to put into amazon and item should show, its a fab pallette... 👍
Oh yum! I want ALL of the colours too! Nell x
Right?! I need every color 😂
Happy New Year! I hope it brings us a lot of nice things=) I love the video - so many nice colours and swatches=)
Happy New Year!!! 🎊 Thanks so much for watching. I had fun swatching all of these colors 🥳
I've never used gouache (I do watercolor) but maybe use one of the plastic or porcelain palettes? so it doesn't rust
Great idea! I’m definitely trying that next.. I bought a ceramic palette but the video got too long to show it. 😅😅 Next video!
I’ve heard that m graham gouache reactivates really well and stays juicy for long! Holbein gouache says not to dry their gouache in the palette on every tube because they also get crumbly.
Ooh now I want to buy m Graham! Haha! I’m seriously bothered by this problem and if there’s a better brand I want it
I love the M. Graham out of the tube, but they dry out extra fast, actually. Check out Sarah Burns' recent dried gouache video!
