  • In this episode of Apparel Academy, Ricoma CEO, Henry Ma, shows you 5 ways to keep your custom apparel business from shutting its doors in uncertain times. Henry covers the EXACT ways that you can adapt & pivot your strategy to make sure that your apparel business not only survives, but THRIVES in uncertainty. Check out the 5 proven tactics below.
The first way to grow your business during uncertain times is to ADAPT & PIVOT. Do this by researching in demand items that your customers want and need right now, for example face masks and gloves.
You can also adapt by evaluating your business’ strengths and weaknesses, so that you can focus on improving aspects of your business that you can CONTROL. This could come in the form of researching new marketing techniques, getting your finances in order and organizing your business.
Second, leverage your EXISTING CUSTOMER relationships by speaking to your customers and asking what you can do for them in this moment and asking them to REFER you to others that may need your services.
This is a FREE marketing tactic that does not require acquiring new customers. In fact, you can even try a referral discount to incentive your customers to refer your business to others.
Next, you can become a SILENT PARTNER by fulfilling embroidery orders for another business (like a printing business) or vice versa if you have the machine that they need to fulfill an order. In this mutually beneficial agreement, you can either subcontract the order and get a cut of the profit or simply refer the other business openly. This will allow you to LEVERAGE an existing skill set or technology to increase your offer variety and retain more customers.
The fourth way you can help grow your custom apparel business is by OFFERING VALUE to your customers, whether you provide bundle options to help customers save money (which will allow you to push more product and increase your revenue), or faster turnaround times. The key is to NOT cut prices or offer steep discounts as it will devalue your brand in the long run. Offer value by increasing the PERCEIVED VALUE of your business instead.
Finally, MINIMIZE RISK whenever possible. Find ways to continue to generate other revenue streams so that you don’t put all of your “eggs in one basket”. For example, learn digitizing to expand your services or generate a side income from another part of your craft. Also, minimize risk by choosing a company that offers PAYMENT PLANS preferably with low monthly payments and 0% financing, like Ricoma, so that you’ll be able to minimize the upfront investment in terms of a down payment. Also consider WHAT’S INCLUDED with the machine. For example, Ricoma offers all of the hoops, attachments, software, training, support 7 days a week and after hours and more, which other companies charge on top of the machine price.
Because of the current climate, if you’re looking for a machine, you have the option of scheduling a VIRTUAL demo to be able to see the machine running in real time before you make an investment. Click here to schedule a free virtual demo → ricoma.com/US/virtual-demo
