  • On Saturday it was Round 7 of the 2023 Javelin Sprint Championship at Cadwell Park!
After four back-to-back wins and the Class Championship already decided, the pressure was off for the final round of the 2023 season.
Expectations were bleak after heavy rain overnight had waterlogged the surrounding area, however the track dried quickly throughout the day.
We started off feeling pretty smug about some new wet compound tyres on the rear axle, however in truth they were more trouble than they were worth until they finally scrubbed in. Coupled with the slick track, this made for an alarming off-track excursion on Run 2 - just like a near-identical spin in 2022!
Meanwhile, J13 classmate and general nemesis Tom Barnes was wasting no time, starting off strongly and already beating his best time from 2022 (1:38.38) by his fourth run (1:38.37).
In comparison we had spent all day in the 1:40s, and despite making a breakthrough with a 1:38.58 on our fifth run, we were still 1.1s slower than our 2022 time.
Unfortunately, several competitors suffered spins, accidents and mechanical issues which shortened the day to only five runs. This left us in 2nd place and wondering what might have been and Tom as a worthy winner.
